I've had mine for three or four years and have had minimal issues with them. The comment about the cable being cheap is a laugh since you supply the cable for it. In fact, that's one of the things I really like about them besides the sound and the isolation: you don't have to worry about the cable going bad because it's easily replaceable. My one negative would be the same thing that happens to every Marshall I've ever owned: the volume pot gets scratchy- that's the cause of the drop-outs that others mention. You just spray it with some tuner cleaner and it's good.

These seem to eliminate noise pretty well (haven't tried them in the room with my drummer yet, which is what I bought them for), but I have three issues: the first is that there already seems to be a short in the cable, the right speaker cuts in and out. Second, the "reference speakers" sound awful to me. Third, these things are deathly uncomfortable to wear. They have the gripping power of a freaking vice, even at their loosest setting, and it isn't 15 minutes before the headache sets in that won't go away for hours later. Also, they weigh a bloody TON; I literally had sore neck muscles the day after I tried to record wearing them for a couple of hours. The "liquid filled" padding makes your skin sweat and chaffe, and it collapses enough to let your ears drag against the speakers, which ads to the physical misery. So, unless I have to work with a drummer, I will not ever wear these uncomfortable, tinny sounding beasts.

Junk

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I agree with previous reviews. The fluid leaked out of mine and I have a speaker out and they shorted out constantly. Volume control was glitchy. Which all of this is unfortunate because I believe structuraly, the headphones would survive a nuclear blast. I have searched the internet to find a way to return them to have them refurbished with no luck. So now they lay there alone in their silent, disadvantageous glory. Reflecting with bitter joy their former greatness and dreaming of a tomorrow that was not to be.

Kans for the trash can

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

Initially I thought they were great. Only used to monitor the board while recording live music at clubs and Studio settings. I treated them with respect. They now have all the symptoms others mention. Jack is easily displaced, One side drops out and can be brought back by "jiggling" the volume knob. Static can be bad if you move around. Took them back to where purchased to be told they would not do it for me since the customer support was very negative, but if I pursisted I could get them fixed.

Do Not Buy

By David-o_ve1

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

Just pluged in the head phones right out of the box and the right speaker keeps cuting out! There is a seperate cord that attaches to the head phones and I wiggeled it and the volume knob on the head phones ands it didn't help. The tonal quality of the headphones are awful they distort and both speakers have cut out on me. I cannot make mic adjustments because the headphone speakers crackle and cutout at regular recording and play back levels!!!! These were a waste of money and my time. You do not get what you pay for with these headphone.

Pretty good phones

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

These phones have very good isolation to them. They are one of the more rugged phones you will see, although one speaker went out on me.(I have had them for two years though.) They have a decent tone quality to them. The metronome is not loud enough for extremley loud playing.

Great buy

By Cramer

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

Great isolation for drumming. I couldn't hear a damn thing with a surround sound setup 3 feet from my head with 300W. With these I hear everything plus my playing. It also saves my hearing from the drums and not having to turn the accompanying music up so loud. The metronome is also nice. I also like the little things like the adjustability and detachable wire. Great buy!

Good phones but with problems

By mopzilla

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I've had the Studio Kans for about two years, and since around after the first month or so, there really was a short starting to show. Seems to be in the connection between the cable and the plug on the headphones. Another thing is the earcups lose their liquid very fast, and the plastic covering the speaker starts wearing on your ear. They grip very well, but unless the earcups are new or well filled, they don't seal too well. It would be nice if each earcup had a small hole with a screw-in plug so as to let the user refill them manually. I think I might do that mod myself, as I'm having trouble finding replacement earcups. Overall, good headphones, I like the detachable cord and volume control, they are pretty tough, but these phones have a lot of improving to do.

great kans!

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I've owned the same pair of "Studio Kans" head phones for about 5 years now and I love them! The sound quality is great, and the isolation quality is even better. The only problem I did have was after 4 years the cushions had lost the fluid and become flat. Not an issue! I went to local music store and for about $8 had them order me up a new set of cushions, and the kans sounded as good as new! Highly recomended,

Very Average

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I purchased 4 of these and 3 cables have shorts and the fluid has leaked out of 2. These are average phones and they will not last. Mine were all treated very well and they all have problems.

Studio Kans headphones are not good.

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I have given these to drummers who record at my place. They and I have the same issues as others with these Studio Kans headphones, heavy, uncomfortable, rattles and distortion, bad sound when they don't distort, cheap cord, sound cuts out completely, ear pads collapse, etc. They do a good job of isolation, but so do earplugs. Save your money for something better. Not a good buy.

Studio Kans by Metrophones

By Anonymous

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

Man these headphones are worth every penny. They provide excellent isolation when volume gets intense, all the while delivering studio quality sound with the koss speakers. I'd say the only down side is that they get kind of uncomfortable after wearing them for prolonged periods of time. Overall, a great buy.

Drummer

By 05BFNo9He

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I've owned these for less than a year and after a few months of using the right and left ears would cut out when changing the volume. They're great for isolating the sound while playing. When I took them off last night a screw popped out making the left ear fall off and is now not attached. I have certainly used these a lot but not ABUSED them in any way for this to happen. Out of the other selections of isolation headphones these have seemed to work the best.

Don't buy these!

By Dan-Xgj-X

from Los Angeles

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I've had these for a couple of years. They worked for just long enough for me to not be able to return them. I Have the same problems everyone does with them. The right channel fuzzes out, the volume pot has dead spots, and most importantly the 1/8th inch jack is hypersensative and impossible to find a replacement for. I've looked for a metrophones website, or any place where I could try to order parts to fix it myself, and it just does not exist! If you buy these you have a ticking time bomb of uselessness on your hands.

Not completely satisfied

By Music202

from suffern, NY

Comments about Metrophones Studio Kans Isolation Recording Headphones:

I bought two pairs for recording. Initally a great set of headphones, very comfortable, great sound quality and noise isolation, but fluid leaked out of ear sets over time and both headphones experience intermittent loss of sound in one ear, due to poor electronics, and I constantly need to jiggle the cord to recover connection. Replacement parts not available.
