These are the best budget 1/2" mount cartridges out there now. These aren't super hi-fi (gotta pay $$ for that), but they're a great starting off point. You can upgrade the stylus for better sound.

I bought this as a backup and to play questionable records before trying them with my Audio-Technica AT-ML170/OCC cartridge.
The Ortofon sounds great, tracks anything, and is perfectly suited for full time duty in any system.

I was much less than impressed with this cartridge. I needed to replace my cart on my new/used Technics eBay TT find. The cart installed on this right now is an Audio Technica AT-11 and it is worn. Heard good things about Ortofon, even this budget cart was supposed to be decent. The old AT-11 sounds better. I returned the Omega and ordered an AT95e. Now, I'm kind of new to this, maybe it needs to be "broken in" but it was so flat sounding I had it on there for about 20 minutes and gave up.

Great phone cartridge! I used it to fix an old 80s Hitachi player that had a busted cartridge on it. Easy to install, looks good, sounds good! It's obvious why Ortofon is the number one cartridge manufacturer in the world these days.

Found a used turntable, knew it was old, figured a new stylus would do it good. Installed this, played 20 seconds of a record, and put it back in the box. Put my old used stylus back on. Sounded way better. In the morning i have to figure out how to return it through the mail.

I was just about to upgrade speakers due to sibilance issues, but decided to try changing carts first. Really glad I did and saved myself a bunch of money! The old Stanton I was using was very loud but very distorted on certain tones, but this cart is warm and balanced and more detailed without sounding weak or overblown. Tracks very well and has had no issues with skating or distortion.
