I was very disappointed in the performance of the dm2100. I came so close to buying this system, and something said, GO & LISTEN. Boy was I glad I did!! The main feature that I liked was the digital input, but that can only take it so far. The overall frequency response was fairly good, but the sub was popping & cracking. True it was a display model, but I had the independent bass vol. turned down, and the overall was not even half way up! The store I was @ had a CD player w/digital out, so I put in some of my CD's and played very specific tracks. I knew right away this would not be ideal for my studio. Very comparable to PC speakers w/sub. I hooked up to Roland ds-5's, and they sounded so much better! I would recomend saving a little more and getting ds-5 or 7's. Or just go analogue w/the alesis MK2's or beringer truths in the same price point.
I love the sound from these speakers: they put out very precise bass and crystal-clean high notes. The front-mounted controls are very convenient as well. I use this system as a home stereo system, hooked up to simple boom box headphone jack, and have been impressed that the resulting sound is far better than pricy systems where you pay more for promotion than actual quality components.
