excellent mic, well built. gives lots of movement freedom for guitarists-even works well for piano-keyboard players. I own 2 and have used them for many years without any problems. I use a 20 ft. xlr cable with an on-off switch that is built in to the cord to connect to the mixer. Since you cannot get away from the mic to clear your throat, you need to be able to shut it down quickly. The mic picks up exceptionally well but only within about 3 inches of the source so back feed is very minimal. I you need to be hands-free, limited room for mic placement, or in need of movement freedom, this is a great mic and at a good price for the quality.

    Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic

    By Wildun

    from Marion, NC

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

I use this mic daily as a dj on RadioNC Online. It performs perfectly in this application. This mic was designed as low a impedence mic so you use it very close to your mouth. If you do not use a sound mixer this may not be the mic for you as a mixer allows you raise and lower the gain to increase mic input volume. You can't plug it into an amplifier socket and expect it to be loud or function properly. This is a common mistake made by many. Shure does make an inline amplifier to preamp the mic so it can be used without a sound mixer board.

Not bad, but could be better

    By Concrete Pete-7.Uno

    from NorCal

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

I'm a drummer that sings lead vox on most of my two band's songs. I usually use a boom mic, as I often play harmonica while drumming, too. Obviously, that cannot be done with a headset mic, but for just vox and drums, this was a very affordable unit.First, the good points- its has a pretty clear sound, and is lightweight. It has a very secure fit on the cranium, and the boom adjustability is awesome. It rarely (if ever) feedsback, even when the gain gets bumped up. The price range is absolutely KILLER!The bad points- having to run a 1/8-to-1/4-to-XLR adapters on the cable is burdensome. Even though the cable had enough length to allow the "clump" of adapters to sit on the floor behind me, it's inevitable that it will get stepped on, etc.The way the frame sits on your head makes it impossible to put on and take off reading or sunglasses without removing the mic each time. As others have noted, it does not come with any type of protective case or box, so I had to fabricate one, but not a big deal.Overall, I'd say it's VERY well worth the cost, and a good unit.

    Review of SM10A-CN Headset Mic

    By mike cantrell

    from Florida

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

Recently bought the headset to use when I perform with guitar in solo gigs. Allows alot more freedom for; head movement while playing without losing proximity to mike. It worked flawlessly. Head set plugged in directly into my amp without the need for any preamp and I didn't have an; problem with feedback or clarity. The adjustment is easy to use. With Shure products I can always be sure of the output quality. The plastic box it came in works well to protect the mic. Some fitted foam I put in helps even more. An on/off switch would be a big plus, but use a foot switched floor outlet box and plug in power to the amp and effects box I can turn the whole system off at the same time from my performing location. All in all this mic is a great product for the price.

    SM-12a, too

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

I am a singing drummer and have used this monitor equipped version for years. I contacted Shure about proper use and one of their sound engineers advised me it eqs just like a SM58 but boost the low end. It is very adjustable. If the "boom" is spinning on you, right where it comes through the body of the mic is a flat tightening apparatus with the Shure logo on it. Tighten that and you are ok. I use it behind a regular kit and when playing congas and have had very little feedback problems. The "in ear" monitor send is great, too. I would like an on/off switch on it, too, though.

    a decent headset mic

    By Debbie-bFSHp

    from galveston, TX

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

I just got this and wanted it to free me from having to stand in front of the mic stand. Very good quality, secure fit, very adjustable. It sounded pretty good. I compared it with my sm58 and it sounded very similar, maybe 1/3 to 1/4 weaker. The only draw back (a plus for drummers) is that you have to have it very near your mouth, I got the best results when it was barely touching the corner of my lip. On the plus side it can handle the mixer at full strength without feed back and doesn't pick-up surrounding noise. Hope this helps.

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

I just got this mic and it is awesome!!! Am lead singer and use it with the AKG WMS40 wireless and it rocks!!! Read the other reviews and was kinda worried, but it really performs well. Had to turn up the low end a bit because it is a smaller mic ... but the mic was actually hotter than the SM58 I use. You do have to follow the directions and have the mic within 1/2" of your mouth. The band was very happy with the performance. Best of all ... no more feedback problems.

Comments about Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic:

As a keyboard player and vocalist the headset allows hands free operation with excellent quality clear sound through a PA. However, an on/off switch is really required for unwanted broadcasts e.g. coughing, talking etc.. One solution is to link to a BOSS A/B footswitch which is of excellent quality for a reasonable price. But you then lose the XLR connections.

I already had one that I got years ago, and it has always worked great, but I thought, why not get a back-up, just in case the one I have been using gets crushed, or something. I keep it in a nice box to keep it safe, but you never know. LOL It has always sounded great, with good anti-feedback properties. I am a singing drummer, and it works great in that application. It can be EQed to sound close to an SM-58, with just less gain. The only down side...and it is very minor...it does not have an on-off switch. You will need to have something inline if you want to turn it on and off where you are at....and that is what I have done.

The sound is okay but the chord attached to the power supply is too short. You need to buy an additional chord if you want any freedom of movement. The head piece is also a little small and is not very comfortable.
