I'm a hard-headed Otto Link tenor guy, and this MP is really great - IMO. It may be a little darker than the old Florida Links (hence the New York in the name), but you can still push it with a brighter reed. I think it works well with a medium to medium-soft type reed if you want a little more projection.
I have an 8* and a 7* and I like them both, but obviously the 7* is a little easier to play. They are not stuffy. They are pretty free-blowing for a MP that basically has little or no baffle. Also, I did not have any trouble with the altissimo on tenor (up to high Eb on tenor).
Whatever Jody has going on in the physics department, it seems to work. These pieces have bottom and they resonate. The DVNY won't project like a Dukoff, but it has a lot of depth. Jody has other models if you want the extra brightness.
I also use a DVNY on alto, and it gives a nice fat sound that is not metallic and adds bottom to the alto.
If you like the Link type of sound, then this is a really great MP as far as I am concerned.
