Played these happily for years

Comments about Peter Ponzol Alto Saxophone Reeds:

Just to add my experience with these reeds. I have played on these reeds on live gigs for probably over 10 years. These reeds have excellent power and responsiveness once you find the right strength for you. The best part about them is the sound; they really "ring" with a nice presence. I play them on a Ponzol mouthpiece on a Mark VI. The one thing I have noticed is lately they have varied more in strength within the same box. The last box I got was much harder than normal, and the box before was mostly softer than normal. A little frustrating; hopefully not the start of a trend.

Ponzel reeds

Comments about Peter Ponzol Alto Saxophone Reeds:

I have played on every reed out there, and the ponzel is by far the best for performing right out of the box, and stays in tune with every mouthpiece I try. It plays well with Jazz and Symphony and for me lasts well. I always had a fibracell on hand for emergencies if I could not find a decent reed that plays, but as far as the ponzel goes, there is not one in the box that I can not get to play, which to me is important, when reeds are pricey these days...Thank-you Ponzel for your great product.

Start out good, but...

Comments about Peter Ponzol Alto Saxophone Reeds:

When I first strapped on one of these reeds I was surprised at the sound they produced. They are fairly bright and have a nice woody tone. After about 6 hours of playing though, the reed was so thin and flexible that it sounded like I was a seventh grader again. I've tried all ten reeds in the box, and all of them fizzled out extremely quickly. I used a box of #3 and would not recommend anything equal to or below this hardness. I might try again with a #4 because they sound so good at first.

I respectfully disagree...

Comments about Peter Ponzol Alto Saxophone Reeds:

These are some of the best reeds I have played on beating any Alexander type reed and any Vandoren ZZ or Rico Jazz Select. They produce an excellent tone and are extremely long lasting. I lent one of my reeds to a friend who is still using the same reed months later waiting until I order another box for him. The tone is very clear and eliminates the fuzzy sound I get from many other reeds when playing quiet. I have yet to find a better reed. My response to the previous review is that too thin of a reed was probably bought because there is no way that after a few hours these reeds wear out to that extent when my friend still loves his one reed months later. My suggestion is to get bigger reeds because not only will you find that they last longer, but they will eventually build your chops and increase your tone by having thicker reeds. I have played these reeds on both jazz Meyer mouth pieces and Selmer classical mouth pieces and they have performed excellently on both.
