I've spend more money than I should have chasing that quintecennial Hendrix "Magic Boy" tone. I've had a Fender Blues Junior for a while (Excellent amp with a very competent speaker) and I haven't been able to get that EXPERIENCED tone. Then I bought a Marshall Class 5, good amp for the price but no dice. Changed my Fender CS 69 Pickups for Klein 65, great pickups but I was still missing that glassy piano like texture in the G and D strings. Then I saw a video of a Blues Junior loaded with Greenbacks (G12M-25) and then I discovered what I've been missing!!! it's pretty obvious once you know it. Had I known this before I would have saved myself a good $US (400-800). Sure enough, got it yesterday and installed it right away, sounded hair raising at apartment volume, but I needed to give it a drive test. Went to the country club, turned the volume to 11 and it was jaw dropping!!! it's absolutely what I've been searching, it takes fuzz very well too, way better than the stock speaker!! If you are any like me don't be wasting thousands of bucks in stacks that you'll never be able to crank. Get a Blues Junior, change the stock speaker for a G12M-25, learn from my mistakes and people listening to you will be looking behind the wall searching for Plexis. Hope that helped.
The most important one. Tone, Hendrix Tone.
Has exceeded expectations!!
It's half the price of a Celestion Heritage and I couldn't be any happier with the results.

I got these after hearing a 70's Greenback speaker. I was very pumped to get it. Instantly when I heard the sound I wasn't disappointed but it sounded more like a mellow Vintage 30 (which I was replacing). I'm happy with the purchase but if you are unlucky enough to have played the real thing you wont be happy until you find some Vintage Greenbacks.I would know, I am looking for some now! Overall nice sounding speaker but more of a modern take on a greenback. These are now Made In China BTW like most Celestion's. I would try to find them at a cheap price, I'm sure the mark up price is crazy. If you are looking at the Heritage you might as well get the real thing cause they problem have the same modern vibe.

Comments about Celestion G12M Greenback 25W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I appreciated the tech help via phone when I was ordering. I am well satisfied with my purchase. The Celestian speakers were for an old Bandmaster cabinet which I was restoring to make an extension cabinet for my Fender Deluxe. The initial sound is great. We will have to do something about the shipper. My experience with them was less than satisfactory.

Comments about Celestion G12M Greenback 25W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

This is a great speaker. I have them in a 2x12 and use it with a Marshall JCM 800 50 W head and a Orange OR 15 head. The vintage tones are great. Really, off the map great. I see why Hendrix, ACDC, EVH and others rave about this speaker. I've experimented with lots of speakers, mixing different speakers and the Greenbacks give me a wow moment everytime. The cleans are crisp and clear. The distorted tone is vintage, very natural, and pure magic. Glorious! Sounds great with my les paul and strat -- any guitar and any head. Best for classic rock vintage tones, blues, country or jazz. Metal players should look at something else. The only thing is they are rated 25W which can limit how you use it. Still, well worth the trade-0ff.

If you like your amp but are struggling finding that tone we all search for, look at trying these speakers before you buy a new amp. The impact to your tone by adding these speakers is huge. This will upgrade any rig. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for that warm classic rock sound with lots of mid range then this is it. For a more rounder brighter sound go with the Vintage 30.

Comments about Celestion G12M Greenback 25W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Great speaker if you want huge midrange.
Good for mixes where you want really thick guitars without multiple mics and tracking multiple takes. Not a dark speaker as sometimes believed. Plenty of highs. Not tight enough to do modern metal, but excels at modern and vintage rock.

I put this in a custom cab the same size as a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. The mounting holes don't have any support under them, so it is easy to over tighten the screws and distort the frame. Other than that it is a swell sounding complement to the Tubemeister head.

Have Greenbacks in every cabinet I own, even replaced my Mesa Boogie 2x12 Vintage 30's with them. Recently put one into my Fender Tweed Blues Junior NOS. Put the Jensen to shame. Fuller tonal range and presence. Added character and soul to liven up the sound. Highly recommended.

                  Killer Vintage Punch

                  from Illinois

Comments about Celestion G12M Greenback 25W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I wanted a small cab to complement my modified 1960 Bogen 20-watt tube amp (re-wired w/Fender components). Had some trouble trying to find a simple, single-speaker cabinet with a high quality speaker. Ended up getting this Greenback," and the local music shop built a custom cabinet around it. Together with the vintage tube amp & my full-hollow Ibanez with it's P-rails pickups/triple-shot mounting rings http://backstage.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/seymour-duncan-shpr-1s-p-rails--neck-and-bridge-pickup-set http://backstage.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/seymour-duncan-ts-2s-triple-shot-carved-top-pickup-mounting-ring-set", this thing kicks out a variety of impressive sounds. Rails: sparkly mid-range treble, crisp but not incredibly bright, great fuzzy snarl with addition of vintage overdrive pedal. P90s: Subtle, punchy, and bright, a bit meaner with some OD distortion. Humbucker mode: PUNCH! Rattles the windows. Low-end kick, very pick-style responsive sound. Overdrive it and reach near-metal ferociousness. I've even been running my record player through this cabinet, and Eric Clapton never sounded so good! Perfect for that vintage style. I've never heard the original Greenbacks. I read some reviews boasting their superiority to these reissues, but you can have these right now, they sound great (even used as a single), and if you happen to pick up some SD P-rails/triple-shots as well, I know you'll be stoked when you hear these things in action.
