OVERVIEW

Fully programmable 4-voice analog synthesizer with 37 slim keys.

The minilogue is not a refresh of an old-time favorite, but instead a completely original concept that’s been elegantly designed from the ground-up for today’s modern producer. There’s nothing to emulate, nothing to model after, just 100% pure analog synthesis that is fully programmable for a seemingly endless possibility of sound creation. Find inspiration it its sound with features including a polyphonic step and motion sequencer, on board tape-style delay, multiple sound shaping and filter options, and an oscilloscope display. All of these seamlessly integrated features make minilogue as fun and easy to use as it is powerful. It's the next-generation analog synthesizer for musicians of all types.

True Analog Sound
The synth circuits for minilogue are all new ground up designs, delivering a synthesizer experience like no other. Unprecedented in this class, it’s a four-voice polyphonic true-analog synth with an interface that's designed for accessibility. Whether you're performing live or producing in the studio, the minilogue is the fastest way for the user to explore and implement real analog synthesis in any situation.

The structure consists of 2VCO, 1VCF, 2EG, 1VCA, and 1LFO. The minilogue's unique wave shape capability lets you fine-tune the oscillators’ harmonics, creating the most divine sounds and compositions. The minilogue is also equipped with a variety of powerful types of modulation including cross modulation, oscillator sync, and ring modulator, as well as a delay with a high-pass filter. Powerful sound creation and rich variety are the true hallmarks of an analog synthesizer.

Polyphony and Presets—Perfect
minilogue goes beyond analog synths in its price range by adding 200 preset locations. Select a program for instant access to great sounds—ranging from thick basses and deep pads, to brilliant polyphonic leads and atmospheric sounds. No need to have deep synthesis knowledge; just choose a sound and tweak— a workflow that is very familiar with musicians today. For those who want to dive deeper into the heart and soul of minilogue’s engine, the minilogue can hold 200 programs; with 100 editable factory programs included, and 100 locations serving as blank canvases on which to create your next analog masterpiece. Each preset can also hold a step sequence and delay settings along with the sounds you create.

Voice Modes
Selectable voice modes let you freely configure the four voices for performance. The voices can be set to 4-note polyphony for chords or layered for thick basses and leads. Other modes cover a range of sounds from octave shifted bass explosions to delicately staggered layered triggering.

Eight Voice Modes:

  • POLY - operates as a four-voice polyphonic synthesizer
  • DUO - operates as a unison two-voice polyphonic synthesizer
  • UNISON - operates as an all-unison mono synthesizer
  • MONO - operates as a mono synth with sub-oscillator
  • CHORD - produces chords
  • DELAY - voices 2-4 sound consecutively at a delay following voice
  • ARP - an arpeggiator operates with up to four voices
  • SIDE CHAIN - when a note sounds, the volume of the preceding voice is lowered

16-Step Sequencer
Get creative with the intuitive 16-step sequencer with motion sequence recording capabilities, and make your sound truly come to life. The minilogue provides real-time recording with overdubbing, and step recording that lets you record simply by consecutively specifying notes, giving you a great way to create phrases and performances.

Oscilloscope Visualizes the Sound
The OLED display will show the waveform as you sculpt your sound. Visual feedback is both educational and entertaining, and represents a first on a hardware synthesizer.

Build Quality
The uniquely curved, sand-blasted 2mm aluminum front panel, metal shaft potentiometers, solid, chassis-mounted metal shaft potentiometers and rubber-coated knobs give the roadworthy minilogue a standout look and feel to complement its powerful and dynamic sound creation capabilities.
Sync with groove machine.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

Another reviewer stated: A comparatively straight forward analogue synthesizer with attainable results even for those without background in sound synthesis. Absolutely true statement. I watched a few demos on YouTube provided by a gent named Marc Doty. Thanks to him and the ease of use of the Minilouge, I hit the ground running once I received it. Folks, I love this little guy because I am not what you'd call a techneroid. Within a few minutes I was doing Pink Floyd and Edgar Winter type sounds, which for me is astounding. I'm a guitarist of 45 years, not a pianist. Even so, I can't believe how easy it is to operate, and I've only scratched the surface because the unit is limitless. It's big enough to be able to navigate comfortably, yet it'll fit on your lap too, which for me is so nice because at my age, I have spinal issues. I can sit comfortably and play for quite a while without much trouble. I love it! For what you're getting, I consider this unit to be very affordable too, so I highly recommend it to all.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

This analog synth has no other equivalent anywhere near its price point. Clean look. The knobby console is awesome, but the savable patches make this better for live performance than other synths with volatile memory. The ring mod isn't quite as totally excellent as the MS-20, but the wave shaping can get you into some complex and aggressive sounds. It is a small menu dive to access portamento, which is a bummer, but the mode selections and sequencing make up for that. The onboard delay is a bit thin, but at least it's there. If I'm not mistaken, while you can sync LFO to the BPM tempo control, you have to dial the delay time in by ear unless you slave to external MIDI clock.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

The only con is a pop when turning it on and off. I own a nord, gaia, and microkorg and none of the do this. I just turn them on first before turning the amp on. Mildly obnoxious and good to keep in mind for live gigs. I really like the delay and the second filter essentially that it provides. I think the sounds it produces are really rich which great, easy manipulation of the wave itself. Very cool to visualize and potentially create from a more visual standpoint than a pure sonic one. Always fun to create from different angles.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

Korg created the perfect analog synth and it costs less than 500! The Minilogue is perfection. The only thing I wish Korg did was put full size, semi-weighted keys on it. I'd pay 100 more for that. Aside from that issue, great job Korg.

Alien technology, man. I haven't stopped smiling since I removed the Minilogue from it's box. Simple to start making new and beautiful sound upon introduction. Truly astonished with some of the preset tones' aggression and originality. Wish I had a second one.

Overall really happy with the sound, especially considering the price. LFO target switch is a little loose and needs to be jiggled to set the proper target. Haven't decided if this is worth hassling with warranty replacement, as everything else is great.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

The miniL is a fantastic synth, requires almost no prior knowledge of synthesis, and even programming on the small O-led screen is so simple to do, I have yet to reference the manual.

One thing, make sure to download Korg's drivers before trying to use the USB cable. I connect it to my DAW, and Korg gives you the option of sending midi via usb to the miniL, and also lets you send a separate midi signal through the miniL's midi out, so you can control another synth or whatever. This is a very cool feature and really allows you to multitask, it's practically a usb midi interface on its own.

The only downside is the limited keyboard. I control mine with an alpha juno 2 (also sounds great) which has a much longer keybed and full size keys.

I highly recommend this synth to anyone making electronic music, or looking to add synth tones to their repertoire.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

This is a very easy to use synth. I've tried many others that were less intuitive and didn't sound as good. Sounds good amplified. Useful pro sounds right of the box and can be easily edited. It's poly and mono and that's part of what sold me.
Monophonic synths sound great, but if I'm going to have only one synth, I'd prefer the versatility of having the option of choosing either mono or poly. I'm a guitarist, so I really appreciate the easy of use. I'd kind of like bigger keys, but it's fine. I think it's a trade off. There's 3 full octaves in a light and portable package. Bigger keys would change all of that so I understand why Korg went the way they did on this.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

Very cool synth. Actual VCO's. You can instantly hear the difference between this and DCO. There is a beautiful and mild natural chorusing with any polyphony, and the resonance on the filter is stunning. I have many synths--new and vintage, and this has a unique place among them. Not what I would call a "powerful-sounding" synth out of the box (sometimes you gotta jack the volume up), but would be an excellent choice for very natural and "synthy" sounds. Also (again due to vcos), this synth is particularly great at those vintage scifi and horror sounds. The delay is a rad edition, and works well as a part of the instrument, doesn't feel cheesy or thin or anything--just a cool addition. The ARE issues with the USB midi for Windows 10--I am very versed in 5 pin and usb midi use and this will not connect via usb, even after speaking to Korg support twice. Syncs great with regular 5 pin, and all knobs transmit midi so automating any parameters in your DAW is a snap. Humidity, due to the nature of VCO's--can make it go out of tune...and also, the first 20 minutes it is on, you may need to retune a couple times while the instrument heats up and stabilizes. This is simple and quick to do by tapping shift/ record simultaneously, takes 10 seconds only, so it in no way hindered my work flow. Sync my analog gear with ease--both a Roland Juno 60 AND jx3p receiving nice tight clock from the sync out of the mini, its great. I also have it connected thru my Waldorf Pulse 2, and not only does it sync perfectly, but the mini receives START/STOP messages from the Pulse 2 arpeggiator! So when i start up the pulse 2, the mini is locked right in! I ended up also getting a TCE Hall of Fame reverb pedal---amazing digital reverbs with a very 80s sound on synths. It is a dope edition to any synth-heads studio. Lots of fun, unique, pleasing sound, and great connectivity options.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

As an avid synth/piano player I love the action on the keys. They aren't exactly "mini" but rather scaled down full size keys. Creating and saving patches is relatively quick and its easy to recreate a lot of iconic synth sounds. The on-board delay is nice but I typically like to use external studio delays. The synth sounds amazing and you can choose to turn the attack and release tight enough to get an additional pop which is good for adding harmonics in the attack of your notes. This is useful for pluck-sounds or other high-precussive sounds. of course if you dial attack release a few ticks away from 0 you can have a clean, fast attack on your notes if you do not want the click. Overall, it's a very versatile synth at the 500 price point. I highly recommend it to other keyboardists and synth enthusiasts.

Comments about Korg minilogue Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer:

Beautiful synth (in build and use). Good for learning and experimenting with shaping sounds. I used to have a Mininova, this synth does not provide the similar "instant gratification " of pre-programmed mods at the push of a button, but I enjoy having everything laid out on the panel as opposed to the matrix-style tweaking of the Mininova and Microkorg. I still have much to learn and overall I have been thoroughly enjoying the Minilogue. I figured this would be a good bridge between the Mininova and the likes of a Moog or even Korg MS20
