This is a decent product that works as advertised. Cymbal mounting and removal are fairly easy and quick once you get the hang of how to pinch the crown and angle your cymbal. My rating on the quality is a little lower than it would have been a couple of years ago, because half of the most recent ones I've bought had a separation (adhesive failure?) between the rubber pad on which the cymbals sit and the threaded base. They still work, but my older ones never had that problem. That said, cymbals move very freely and suffer no tone loss (however small) because they're not being pinched by felts, and setup and tear-down time are indeed reduced. This is an inexpensive way to make your life a little easier.

These are a good idea in theory, but the execution is very poor. The biggest flaw is that the cymbal is very difficult to get on and off the device. It would be one thing to just squeeze the "crown" and slide the cymbal on, but you also have to put the cymbal on the device at an angle to get the cymbal hole over the two notches at the ends of the "crown". You can only put the cymbal on over one notch at a time, so you have to place the cymbal on the device at an angle. Having to pinch the "crown" and having to manuever the cymbal at an angle over the plastic sleeve (that is about the identical width as the hole in your cymbal) is very difficult, awkward and frustrating! Especially when you have very little room to grip and squeeze the "crown", and it doesn't squeeze easily; it is very stiff.

As another reviewer said, the "sleeve" part of the crown is wider than normal sleeves, and the cymbal's movement is restricted because of the wide sleeve. Not only does this make the cymbal very hard to slide on (see above), but this is also bad for the cymbal. The cymbal must be able to move freely on the sleeve to avoid choking of the sound, not to mention a strong possibility of damage to the cymbal. Very poor design.

All in all I think this product would be dramatically better if they made the top "crown" and subsequent sleeve more narrow. Then it would be good product. As it is now, do not waste your money!

                  NOT happy with these.....

                  By Paul

                  from Connecticut

Comments about Cymbal Crown Quick Release Cymbal Holder:

I was thrilled with my Tama Quick Set cymbal holders - for my 8 mm thread stands. Tama, take note - they DO NOT hold tight on 6 mm thread stands.
So I ordered these cymbal crowns for my 6mm stands. They are very fussy to use, and the top broke off this morning. Solves that problem. Back to the wing nut.
So if you have an 8 mm stand, go for the Tama quick sets. If you have a 6 mm stand, stick with the wing nut and save your money.

                  Cymbal Crown Holders

Comments about Cymbal Crown Quick Release Cymbal Holder:

I bought a couple of these many years ago at a local music store and loved them. The store quit carrying them and in time, the crowns simply wore out and broke. I was really excited to find them on Musician's Friend. They really save time on set up, and they are very affordable. They do wear out and snap, but it took about 15 years of regular use for this to happen to me. The only problem I have with them is that when they are brand new, it can be difficult to remove the cymbals from the holder. They need break-in time. However, I definitely recommend them for a real time saver in set up.

Comments about Cymbal Crown Quick Release Cymbal Holder:

Purchased a couple of these recently. Functional yes, but I do have some concern. The size of the cylinder (the part you slide the cymbal over) is a little too big. What happens is the cymbal has no breathing room so to speak. This results in restricted sound and I'd imagine increased strain on the cymbal hole. I reverted back to some gibraltar rubber tall sleeves, which I rate as a 10 out of 10 for excellent sound & feel! I do sincerely like the concept of the crown especially for use with the ride, as it facilitates improved access to the bell. Just fell a little short of my expectations.
