Gauges: .045-.065-.080-.100.

Wound with pure nickel, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." D'Addario Half Rounds XL bass strings retain the flexibility and many of the tonal characteristics of round wound strings. Half Round heat-treating process increases the brightness of the strings. Comments about D'Addario ENR71S Half Rounds Light Bass Strings:

Great strings for blues, country, Jazz. Great feel was able to lower the action a smig and get the feel I am accustomed to. Tone is exceptional and balanced. With the right amplification can get almost subsonic bottom end. Riddle the walls. Mid range that cuts and punchy.

    Buyer Beware!

    By T.M.M.

Comments about D'Addario ENR71S Half Rounds Light Bass Strings:

I'm not going to say these strings are awful, but I definitely think they're going to have a niche market. I bought these thinking they'd be the perfect middle-man between the warmth of flats and the articulation of rounds. Well sound-wise I personally think they sound like really dull rounds. But the worst part is they hurt. They're extremely uncomfortable to play. Again, another middle-man gone wrong thing here. Flats are so comfortable its like playing strings of butter. Rounds are nice once they're broken in a little. These... sand paper. It wont cut your fingers, but its like a "nails on a chalkboard" feeling. I would say unless you love these for some weird reason, either only get them for their specific tone application, or don't get them at all. They wont be a good every day string. I made the quality a 5.0 because its D'Addario, even the strings they make that I hate I still know will last a long time and are consistent.

    Flat or not?

Comments about D'Addario ENR71S Half Rounds Light Bass Strings:

A good deal darker sounding than round wounds and snags fabric. They actually are sharp along the length of string where the grinder left a flattened surface. You must be aware that these can be abrasive to very tender or damp fingers. These strings seem to meet demands as far as good basic tone goes. But for me, I'll go with either flats or rounds from now on.

    Great strings!

Comments about D'Addario ENR71S Half Rounds Light Bass Strings:

I just purchased a new Peavey Grind and one of the reviewers of that bass recommended switching to half rounds. I'm relatively new to the bass, but could really notice a diference in easy of playing and liked the sound they produced. I'd like to see someone with more playing time write a review. For me, I doubt I'll ever use anything else.
