Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

These strings have the upside of flatwounds (easy on the fingers) without the intonation issues and resonate better than flat wounds. Some reviewers say they are not smooth. It does help to play them a bit till they pick up a little "grease".

    Not a bad concept.

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

They really do have a good blend between the worlds of flat and roundwound. Nice to the touch but the tones are still somewhat bright and more mellow. But after about 3 weeks of rehearsals and 1 gig, they just sounded like dead roundwounds that manage to sound more dull than they normally do when they die. Now the Ernie Ball strings; I can usually make them last 6 weeks until they start to sound bad. I like how they are when they're still good. But they don't seem to last long.

To me the perfect string, warmth of a a flatwound combined with the snap of a round. I've run mine for a long time with no issues and have always loved the tone

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

but seriously, I can't believe there are any bad reviews on here for these strings! they sound great and are very nice quality (as per usual with D'Addario Strings). I was expecting them to be a bit smoother but they still make a really nice sound and aren't as bright as a typical round wound string. Try them on a Rickenbacker!

    Love these strings

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

I've been playing with low budget roundwounds for years. I'm in a steady gig now and decided to spring for a decent set of strings. These are great right out of the box. I find them faster than roundwounds, with thick lows and bright highs for when I solo. All around, a great string. I noticed the other reviews complaining about stickiness. I have found they get sticky as they get older, not when brand new, but maybe it's just me. I play a Washburn Vulture II bass, and these just seem to fit. I go with D'addario for all my strings: guitar, bass, and mandolin.

    Terrible Strings

    By probassguy

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

I ususally don't feel compelled to write a bad review but these warrant it. These are possibly the worst set of strings I have ever used in my 44 years of playing. They not only sound like they're already dead a half hour after putting them on, they feel sticky, like you're pulling your fingers through pudding. I will stick with DR's or Sadowsky strings, no more testing! I do however love D'Addario guitar strings.

Great Sound, But Cant Trust 'Em

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

Been using these strings for a long while now. Last two packs I bought on seperate occasions though the core snapped on the g-string before i got them tuned anywhere close. Very upset. But if you can get a good quality set They overall sound is tough to beat!

Been looking for these for awhile

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

I was discussing strings with my luthier and he suggested a half roundwound string. I decided to give these a try. I have really enjoyed their sound. They have a very warm sound, but nice crystal highs when you need them. I use them on a '75 Fender American Deluxe Jazz and really like what they have done to the bass. There is one caveat though. They take a little getting used to. I have played full roundwound, and flat or tapewound strings. These have a very unusual texture when you first start playing them. They almost feel sticky. This is the only reason they didn't get 5's across the board. However the stickyness either goes away or I have gotten used them. No matter, I have chosen them as my string of choice on this bass. Great job D'Addario.

    Truly the

Comments about D'Addario ENR72 Half Rounds Medium Bass Strings:

Once upon a time, I was sold on a very popular British-made round wound string. Then a guitar/bass tech I knew at the time told me that for all their merits, round-wounds (no matter who makes them) can be murder on frets. He then recommended the D'Addario Half-Rounds to me. That was well over 25 years ago, and I still use 'em on my '66 J-Bass. I just got a Lakland (with their own round-wounds, and while they're nice)I plan to change to the D'Addario's ASAP. They feel much smoother on your fingertips; are much more "fret friendly" to your bass; and can give you a warmer sound when you want it, as well as most of the bright punch of a true round wound.
