OVERVIEW

A special winding process gives you a one-of-a-kind tone.

Gauges: .012, .016, .025, .032, .042, .053

The Dean Markley HELIX HD 2082 acoustic guitar strings will give your music a sound like no other. It took over a year and many trials for the Dean Markley team to find just the precise elliptical shape for the winding wire that makes up the patent-pending, Hyper-Elliptical Winding process of the Helix HD. This shape then had to be paired with the correct winding process that would produce these stupendous results-the maximum mass for the guitar string's diameter that still maintained the string's vibrancy.

The Hyper-Elliptical Winding process results in an increased number of wraps along the length of the string. This increases the mass of your acoustic guitar string, without changing its diameter or material.

More mass makes the Dean Markley HELIX HD guitar strings have a fuller tone; more windings give a smoother feel as well as a brighter, more resonant tone. This provides a smoothness and performance unrivaled by conventional strings.

When you press and strum a normal wrap wire, your fingers experience resistance as they go down into each depression between the wraps. With the Dean Markley HELIX HD you'll experience smoothness. These less coarse wrappings let your fingers glide more easily and smoothly along the surface of the wrap wire.

Made of 80% copper, and 20% zinc, these strings are made of a true brass alloy-well-balanced and durable for loud, rich sound that is exceptionally long-lasting. Helix HD's unique Hyper-Elliptical Winding process adds more projection and tone than other acoustic guitar strings of the same gauges, and reduces corrosion and finger noise on the surface of the string.

I'll start by saying that I've never liked Dean Markley strings. None that I have ever tried lasted for more than a couple of weeks. The tone always went from dull to really flat, really fast. But....these are great strings! I have had these on my guitar for about two months, and they still sound like they're new. Most strings last me 4-5 weeks, and they are usually really dull sounding for a week or two prior to changing them. These, though tarnished, still sound great.
They have a nice, ringing tone, with plenty of projection. Very balanced and clean sound.
As to the feel, I'd liken them to a cross between standard and flatwound strings. Not as rough as normal uncoated strings, but not quite as smooth as flats. Like I said, somewhere between. I like them, and will probably use them again.
I think they are great strings, for any style of play, from practice or recording to live play. I gave them 5 stars, and they deserve every one.

These strings are supposed to be smoother than others because of the winding process, they're not at all. On my other acoustic I have the new Red Copper Bronze strings and those feel much smoother than these. They sound good, mostly because I was changing an old set so anything would sound better. These strings aren't any better than other run of the mill strings. I would highly recommend the Red strings if you're considering these.

Comments about Dean Markley HELIX HD 2082 Acoustic Guitar Strings - 80/20 CL:

I bought these strings to install on an inexpensive Rogue guitar I use in my shop. The sound was improved drastically although not the way I expected. Very warm and full sound for finger style playing. Not as much punch as I expected flatpicking bluegrass style, nice articulate response for jazz comping. I will continue to try these strings on better instruments.

I put these on my Epiphone J-200 and man do they sing. They sound better, highs and lows with a clean mid. I am able to play longer too, because they are easy on the fingers (and not sqeaky).

Awesome tone! Best string I've ever played.
Long lasting. Smooth to touch. Great feel
Because of superior tone and how long they sound like new they are a great buy. Like getting two packs in one.

I have played guitar for over thirty years and Dean Markley has always been the string I go to for strength, consistency, and most of all, tone. No others compare. Try these, or any other Dean Markley string; you won't go back.

More wraps, a tighter wind, a great idea. Strings do take a little getting used to but that doesn't take long.
I have been using Dean Markley strings for 20 years, I find their product to be consistent, sound great, these things make for confidence in my sound, just one more thing I don't have to worry about when performing.
