What you receive instead is a CTS pot vintage style pot (dishback) with gold shaft and gold bushing. The Dimarzio p/n is EP1201 and it is an excellent pot. I bought 3 of these and I have one installed in my Gibson '79 ES-347. The new Dimarzio pot serves as the tone pot for my bridge pickup. The other 3 pots in the guitar are original Dimarzio 500K. Rotation is very smooth with very low rotational resistance and a very natural sounding taper. The new Dimarzio feels and responds just like the other (much older) pots in the guitar. I was impressed!
The CTS-built Dimarzio pot here is an excellent buy. Compare with the CTS-built Gibson 500k pot . Notice the CTS-stamped baseplate on the Gibson. The Dimarzio pot is stamped exactly like this. The Dimarzio name, pot value, and datecode are stamped on the back. Again, the Dimarzio pot is a premium vintage style CTS pot that looks very similar to the Gibson pot.
So, don't get upset that the pot you get doesn't look like the picture. Be thankful that it says Dimarzio and CTS.
Top edge of the brass shaft (at the splines) could use a bit of a taper instead of being flat. Some knobs will go on a little easier.

Bought these because they are advertised to have a more useful taper than other similar pots. Not for me, the roll off is too fast from full resistance. Maybe the first 20% of rotation removes 80% of the resistance. Whatever, huh?
Worse than that, the shafts (both) are a bit undersized for the casing hole and rattle or buzz on some notes. They are in a very resonant semi-hollow and actually rattle a bit if you shake the guitar. These look like they are CTS pots, just branded for Dimarzio. Well, I've been using CTS pots forever and this is the first time I've run across this problem. Won't buy them again!

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
The pot seems pretty good but I will have to uninstall as I do not wish to drill bigger holes for the shaft to fit in my Epi LP... Oh well found a local guy that will trade me some that will work lol just wanted others to know that they are a bit wider. This may be well known but was my first time and was unaware and hope to help.

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
This is a very high quality pot by CTS. Of course, Dimarzio rebrands this product under their name, much like Groove Tubes. I found this pot very easy to use and to be a very high quality. I ordered two of these to use as tone controls in my Les Paul. After measuring them with a multimeter, I found one to read just over 500k and the other at around 490k. Not bad for a +/- 10% tolerance (Which is why they are used for tone controls). For volume I prefer RS Guitarworks Superpots for their accuracy, but these fit the bill perfectly for tone.

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
These are great replacement pots. They are custom-made by CTS to DiMarzio's specs. Nice components: brass shafts, 3-part carbon-track taper (most pots have 2), retainer clip so you don't push through the back off the pot when putting on a difficult knob and they turn easily. They are nice inside, too. I've taken some apart to turn them into no-load pots (although it took me a while to get that dang retainer clip off!)
NOTE: They are the same size as standard CTS pots. You will NOT need to enlarge any holes/cavities if you are replacing MADE IN USA parts. You will only need to enlarge holes if you are replacing metric IMPORT parts.

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
These have been my go to pots for years when upgrading. Nice taper and very smooth/easy to turn. These are a bit bigger as you can read from the other reviews, especially if you are installing in an import guitar you will need to widen the holes.
Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
The reason my overall rating is 8 is that there is modification involved. As another review I read stated these pot are bigger. The Stem and Mounting column both are a larger diameter. You might need to increase the mounting holes for these pots in your guitar or finger board to mount them and your knobs will also need to be replaced or modifyed. I preformed this myself with a file for the holes and drilled the knobs (mine were the knurled metal type). I new I,d have to do this because of the review I,d read and was OK with it because bigger is heavier duty. Thanx to the guy that wrote that review though I like knowing what I,m getting into and highly regard these product reviews. These are some great pots though. Me like EM!!
These are low friction 500k pots, Made of Brass and steel housings
Smooth operation, No noise, a great upgrade from what was in my guitar
I recomend them if your looking for an upgrade from cheap feeling pot metal and aluninum pots that are sloppy or producing noise
Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
Overall this is a good pot.
This pot works for just about any guitar have used several in projects to upgrade stock pots.
Pretty solid build dont feel like it will break anytime soon.
For the price it is a good product, not as smooth as the evh pots but are decent upgrades.
Comments about DiMarzio 500K Custom Taper Split Shaft Pot:
I used two of these for volume and tone pots in an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. Mated up with a .022 Mojotone Vitiman T and a Semore Duncan Phat Cat SPH90-1B, these pots sound great.

The best you can get...with the free shipping this can't be beat !
Simply the BEST pot out there...
the 2 main points of this pot have not been mentioned...
1) Custom taper is a nice slow curve getting louder as opposed to a LINEAR POT
2) The brass shaft is nice...ITS VERY QUIET !
Noise Free and smooth, THAT is why its so quiet.
This IS the best value, thanks Musicians Friend !
