      3/4" shaft for longer travel.

The DiMarzio 500K Long Shaft Potentiometer is designed to replace pots on guitars, such as certain Les Pauls, where the shaft needs to travel 3/4" to meet the control knob.

Here's a list on some guitars that do require a Long Shaft (3/4") Potentiometer:
      Les Paul Standard, 1977-current
      Les Paul Custom, 1977-current
      Les Paul Deluxe, 1978-current
      Les Paul Pro, 1977-1982
      Les Paul Studio, All Years
Les Paul Classic (1960), All Years
Historic '68 Cus. Reiss., All Years

Comments about DiMarzio 500K Long Shaft Potentiometer:

      .
I'm sure these are great pots but they don't fit in my Les Paul.

I had read a review on another web site saying that Long Shaft was needed for a Les Paul. This is NOT true. It does not fit. The shaft is not only long, it is bigger than on regular pot so the hole in the guitar is too small for this shaft. Also, the guitar button don't fit on those Pots.

IMHO, it should have been stated clearly on DiMarzio's web site and on musicican's friend web site what these pots are recommended for and not recommended for (e.g. Les Paul, Strat.).
I'm sure these are great pots but obviously, I didn't try them ;-)
