Does what it's supposed to. Don't just stop at putting copper under your overpriced basswood atrocity from Ibanez..no .. actually put it inside the guitars cavity everywhere. Ok done that? run a wire cavity to cavity and attach it to ground on the volume pot. In each cavity there should be a solder so you "activate" the cavities hum cancelling. Cheap chinese electronics and import pickups will be crystal clear. Also be sure to use copper tape under pickup bases for single coils. Humbuckers it's redundant.

the kid who gave a 1 star did it wrong. I know a ton of guitar companies that swear by this and after doing it myself I am a fan too. The photo attached is before I ran the wire through the cavity. Without the wire it's totally useless to do this unless you like making stuff shiny.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong here. I put the tape under my pickguard and shielded all my pickups and pots with 1 layer of this tape and when I turned my amp back on I saw no difference there was still that stupid hum. Maybe if I added more layers it might do the trick but I would not recommend this unless you buy a whole sh** load to put in. It's a great idea but just doesn't work like people say it does.

As long as you do it right...

By Vancity Guitarist

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

... It will help. Doing it right means covering the entire control cavity, and making sure that the pickguard or backplate shielding makes contact with the cavity shielding in a few places. Also, if you shield a strat with tape but leave the 50s wiring entirely stock, you will still have noise. It is essential to wire with a common ground (google "star grounding" if you need more info) in order to fully kill the hum. Also note that if any of your solder joints contact the foil tape they can be shorted. I cover a few inside areas with masking tape for this reason. Used properly, metal tape will reduce noise without changing the sound in any other way. Other types of metal tape will work, but the stuff from Dimarzio and other guitar-oriented suppliers has a conductive backing meaning you don't need to solder to insure a continuous shield. I think that justifies the extra cost, YMMV.

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

This is a high quality and easy to use product to help elminate noise from your guitar's electronic components. There is plenty of shielding tape included for one guitar's interior cavity, but for the price I feel like more tape should be included. You can buy a roll of Nashua silver aluminum foil tape or similar from a home improvement store for roughly double the price or a little less, but get a huge amount more (about 50 yards) and it is virtually the same thing. I bought this for use in the more sensitive interior of a guitar for maximum shielding for my pickups, but would choose the foil tape for the inside of an amp head or situations where larger quantities are required. Props to DiMarzio though for taking the time to leave a note in the packaging about the importance of soldering the tape joints to ensure ground! And don't forget to shield the back of your pickguard for as much isolation as possible. Don't even need solder, just make sure that you run the tape all the way to the edges of the pickguard and then cut the tape in the body cavity so that it slightly extends past the top of the cavities edges. Solder free contact and you're ready to go!

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

Bottom line it works. Pretty easy to use. I wish the adhesive was conductive but its easy enough to solder the pieces together. One pack isn't enough to get a good covering. I would get 2 maybe 3 if you've got a particularly large area your covering.

        Works well

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

I used this on a Strat that had very hot pups and very noisy. There was an amazing difference after shielding all the electronics with this tape. It takes a little while get all of it in there, but its worth the time. I can even sit near my computer now without sounding like Frankensteins lab.

        Copper shielding

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

This is a must have for any electric guitar! I work in a local music store and use this stuff alot. Im the "guitar guy". I encounter a lot of people who bring their guitars in because its noisey. And 90% of the time its because the electronics are shielded poorly or not at all. Just line your control cavity with the copper tape and the back of the control cavity cover and your in business. If you have a strat style guitar you can cover the back of the pickguard and inside the body cavity. You will eleminate white noise, static, radio interference and noise from your wiring in your home. Youll be surprised how quiet your guitar will be after putting this in your guitar. And all this time you thought it was your guitar itself or your amp. (think again) It comes with instructions on how to properly shield your guitar. Try it out!!!!

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

This product made such a significant difference on my Dean with active pickups that I did the same on all of my guitars. I just filled the pickup cavity and put it on the back plate. If you have florescent or neon light in your house or where you play or have an annoying buzz when the volume on your guitar is maxed out that you need this.

Comments about DiMarzio Copper Shielding Tape:

This is the good thick stuff! I recently purchased some copper tape from amazon for a shielding project and it was soooooooooo thin that alot of what I tried to use got wasted when I cut a piece and peeled the back and it bunched up like scotch tape! This Dimarzio branded tape from Musician's Friend is the good thick stuff like what you get from good suppliers such as StewMac. Be careful when you shield a cavity though because you will get small little razor cuts on your fingers from the edges of this stuff. My fingers are pretty rough & tough and I still get wee little paper-cut like slices on my fingertips but they generally aren't bad cuts, just annoying. Be aware and don't run your finger straight down the edge of this tape because this is the thick "metal type" tape that you want for a great shielding job!
