Classic humbucker tone, modernized.
DiMarzio set out to make a pickup with the sound of the late 1950s humbuckers without simply imitating them with Alnico 2 or aged Alnico 5 magnets. Airbucker technology was created to capture all of the best sonic qualities of vintage humbuckers while avoiding the technical problems. The Air Classic has the same sweet sound as a classic humbucker, but Airbucker technology uses more reliable full-strength Alnico 5 magnets and still reduces string-pull to increase sustain and sensitivity. The result is an almost vocal, three-dimensional sound that jumps off the string faster and stays true as it sustains. The sense of touch and control this provides will offer you an unequaled ability to create your own sound.
Recommended for use in the neck position when combined with Air Classic bridge model and neck position in combination with hotter humbuckers. For all solidbody, hollow, and semi-hollowbody guitars.
Tech Talk: There's no doubt that a weak magnetic field allows a vibrating string to ring longer, but the standard Alnico 2/weakened Alnico 5 method also muddies the tone the longer the string sustains. By contrast, the Airbucker magnetic field preserves high end sustain; it's easier to capture and hold harmonic feedback at varied frequencies, and chords maintain better clarity.

this is my neck position pickup. There are many like it, but this one is MINE!!!!!!!
its clean tones have a sweet, slightly airy quality that when accented with a little reverb, becomes hauntingly beautiful. Yet, when you stick your foot in the heavy metal peddal, it will burn your face off with power chords and transition into a singing lead. it just does everything well.

One of the most versatile pickups I've ever used, it is full but clearand loud but maintains good tone.
Very versatile with four-conductor hookup...series, parallel, etc.
Great sounding neck pickup. Installed in a Tele. It is very full-sounding but does not get muddy in high gain situations. Works for lead and rhythm .Could see this as a great pup for a minimalist --pickup guitar

I installed the DiMarzio DP190 Air Classic Neck Pickup in a PRS SE Custom Semi Hollow guitar. This pickup gets the sound I like from a neck pickup, clear and thick and sweet, but not too thick that it's muddy. The tone is very balanced, the sustain is good, and gets the singing quality I like for sweet leads on the neck pickup. When combined with the Air Classic Bridge pickup, I get that nice notch sound that I like for rhythm parts.
It comes with everything you need - screws, springs, instructions, and warranty card.
No problems with build quality; you get what you expect, a well-made pickup.
Very attractive pricing for a good humbucking pickup.

I bought this pickup 2 years ago and stuck it in my LP Studio because the orignal p.u. was way too muddy lacked mainly everything. The DP 190 on the other hand is clear but warm and sustains forever. I mainly try to focus on jazz and fingerstyle which this pickup nails to a T, but its versatile with any genre you can throw at it. if you're looking for a pickup that has the clarity and control of a single coil but the warmth and richness of a humbucker, this it the way to go.

I had heard the sound bytes on DiMarzio's website and loved that bluesy sound. Now I'm a meta player by trade so I figured that it could give me that classic Sabbathy kind of crunch. I installed it in the neck position of my Dean Cadillac with a Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon in the bridge and the combo is great. You can get a very nice rhythm sound clean and a very classic distortion with some gain. Despite being low output it still gets very loud without washing out. I'd recommend it to those who want a good alternative in the neck and dig that classic sound.

I had hot-rodded an early 80s Strat 20 years ago with DiMarzio Super Distortions, then finally realized recently that even if Dave Murray likes it, I still don't :-). I went looking for a more vintage-style humbucker sound at low volumes with a tap for true single coil when needed, but with the ability to get an wide open, sweeeeeet sound when cranked up with distortion. This pickup does it!!! The pure humbucker sound is great at low volume, and when turned up, it is shocking how sweet it is - that must be their 'air bucker' technology at work. I paired it with the original Strat middle pickup, and I happened to put a DiMarzio Dual Sound in the bridge position. My only critique with this pickup is that the tapped single-coil performance is pretty dull.
