OVERVIEW

Incredible treble response and dynamics.

DiMarzio modeled their Area '58 after one of the most celebrated Strat pickups from 1958, with two major differences. The Area '58 has way less magnet pull, and virtually no hum. It's recommended for neck and middle, and can also be used in the bridge position.

A great pickup is clear and bright, but not thin-sounding. A great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop way down when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. DiMarzio designed the Area '58 to fit this profile exactly.

Tech Talk: The Area '58 has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage 2.1 it replaces, but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased, leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The '58 is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences: close to the strings produces a fatter, slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. The Area '58 and Area '61 are even quieter.

Timeless vintage tone with the quietness and precision of modern technology! Order today.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

These are my favotire Strat pickups hands down. Well, two of them. Also like the area 61. No hum, not to basey, just enough thickness. Mr. Clean but can throw lots of distortion in there and rock like a champ. Even get it twangy enough for country.
Easy to install, covers are a bit of an odd size so if you want different colors than what's available you'll have to look around a bit. only reason I give it a 9/10. Wires are super thin.
Crazy awesome tone. Used them for years. Clean for those jazzy riffs and thick chords. I've got one in my neck position and another in the middle of my strat. Pair it with a area 61 in the bridge and you'll go crazy over your new tone.
I've paid this price several times and will pay it again for every strat I buy. Always the same awesome tone.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I put this pickup in a Modern Player 3 pickup Telecaster with a DP417 Area T Tele Neck Pickup with Chrome Cover in the neck position and a DiMarzio DP153 Fred Humbucker in the bridge position. I was very pleased with the tonal range that gives me. These pickups have a greatFender tone. I also have one in the neck postition on a Strat which is also excellent.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I put a 58 in the neck of a HSS strat (rosewood fretboard) with a 61 middle and an Air Zone in the bridge. At first, I was running stock 250k pots and it was a tad dark and muddy sounding...never really ventured into bright territory. I switched the volume pot to 500k and WOW! All the pickups came alive. Great range of warm vintage woody tones to warm bright tones with plenty of attack. I agree with others, pickup height can be key with these pickups....so you'll want to tinker a bit. The 58 handles overdrive very well without getting messy and has great harmonics. Dead quiet, affordable, great sounding, hard to go wrong here.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

Playing for over 20years and these pickups are the best I have ever played as replacements for single coils.
These pickups provide vintage single coil tones with no noise or hum. I have owned Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's and Texas Specials. I replaced my Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's in my Highway One strat for these and I noticed a big improvement in tone. Not to knock the Fat 50's, but they had too much bass to them which took away from the chime and woody tone I was looking for. The Area 58's have that chime but also can get texas bluesy as well if you keep the height close to the strings. I have an Area 61 in the Bridge which balances very well. All in all I am very satisfied and prefer these to the custom shop since they actually sound better and have no hum.
These sound like vintage coils!
Little pricey but worth it. They are also made in America which is a rare thing these days.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I have used this pickup now in all 3 positions in my american strat and it is my favorite of the area pickups. It sounds more like a true single coil to me, bright but with plenty of rough edges when you add gain. They really nailed it on this one. All of the areas are good, but this one just sounds spectacular. My favorite true single coil is the old Fender 57/62 pickup without the beveled polepieces ( good luck finding one) and this pickup gives you 90% of that tone and does not hum. Dimarzio has really made a great product and I applaud them for their efforts!! My amps are Fender Princeton, Vibro Champ, Tweed Deluxe, Pro Jr, Marshall LB20. Overdrive is Plexi-Drive or Blues Driver.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

These Area pickups are amazing! I reviewed the 61 earlier[my mid pickup]my 58 was purchased first though, and is in the neck. I wanted more time before giving a scond review, the more I play these the more I love them, and can't decide which selector position to use.Everything about these pups are fantastic. Again the tone is beautiful, but what really kicks, are the dynamics, I am rarely using my tone control because by simply changing picking styles and using the volume pot I get all the response I need. Great pups indeed!

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

after trying several noiseless strat pickups from other companies, i decided to give these a try.I am very impressed!the problem with noiseless strat type pups is that they tend to have a muted or sterile tone-THESE DO NOT!-they sound wonderful clean or distorted, and seem to be very touch responsive-the way a good pup should be.get these pups now if you have a strat and are tired of the 60 cycle hum. these will get your strat "well"- you won't be sorry!

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I don't want to sound overly-dramatic, but after these babies were installed in my Highway One Strat, I felt like I'd been tone deaf all of my life until now. I replaced the Fender Vintage Noiseless with these. There's nothing I can't do with these pickups! My hands were literally shaking after a two hour jam session, trying every selector switch position with and without distortion. These are GODLY pickups! There is no hum whatsoever and such colorful and vibrant tones! I have an MIM strat as well, with a sweet Seymour Duncan Hotrails in the bridge and I can't wait to put these into the mid and neck position to make that guitar a heavenly dream too. You will get the quack, belltone, and warmth in the clean channels and the crunches, squeals and bites in the dirty channels. I'm 3000% positive that if anyone buys these pickups, they will be in tone-to-the-bone paradise! Thank you DIMARZIO!!!!!!!

Almost a perfect middle pickup for Strats

    By Stickle

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I've always disliked 2 things about the middle pickup in Strats, the 60-cycle hum when used alone & the middy twang you get from most pickups in this position when used alone, however I have always loved the neck/middle combo of position 4 on the Strat. This eliminates the hum and fattens up the middle position to usable on it's own, it also keeps the position 4 sound intact. Is it a perfect singlecoil sound, no, but neither are many singlecoils (you know what I mean). I like it, noise wise it is quieter than most full size hubmbuckers and keeps the important parts of the singlecoil personality intact.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I have the Area 58 in my Fender 60s series Strat with a Virtual Vintage Solo in the bridge. LOVE the sound of those pickups. They come as close as it gets to the vintage sound from the late 50s. I have played HS3s, YJM, VV Blues, Cruiser, stock American Fender pickups and these Area 58s are my favorites of all.

    Area 58

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

"Area 58" must be where they keep the tone locked away cause once you're there you can really tell. This pickup will defy your expectations. I have it in the neck of my MIM deluxe player's strat. And it works really well with my area 67 middle and 61 bridge. It's quieter than the stock "noiseless" pickups on the player's strat. It's truly mind blowing how good these sound even when you aren't taking into account that it's also noiseless. Dimarzio must be making a deal with the tone devil to accomplish both aspects so flawlessly.I could use all the buzzwords you've heard before but if you're looking for the best noiseless and/or vintage sounding pickup, you've found it.

Slightly superior to stock American Strat

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I recently put an Area 58 on the neck and middle, and an Area 61 on the bridge of my Mexican Strat. They are a DEFINITE upgrade from the Mexican Strat stock pickups, and I would make that change again in a heartbeat if given the chance. If I was totally impressed with these, I was planning on doing the same upgrade on my 2007 American Strat. In a side-by-side comparison with the American Strat with stock pickups(keeping in mind that every guitar sounds inherently different), the DiMarzio pickups on the Mexican Strat sounded slightly cleaner, with a bit more sparkle and quack than the stock pickups on my American Strat. The DiMarzio's are definitely sweet, but not enough difference for me to spend the money and the trouble to replace my stock pickups on my American Strat. DEFINITELY NOISELESS THOUGH! Not even the slightest hum or buzz when in single pickup position.

This pickup is amazing, almost flawless. It is great clean, has a nice woody sounding overdrive and sings with almost supernatural beauty in ultra-high gain. It follows and responds with absolutely precision on the fastest licks. GET THIS PICKUPThat being said, it could have a little more "roll" in the neck.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

This is the Strat pickup you've been waiting for. Classic Strat tone--round, woody, and just the right amount of twang and spank--without a hint of hum. It Handles OD and distortion like a pro. Clean, it sends me to a place heretofore never imagined. Because of the design, you can crank them up to the strings without choking out due to magnet-pull. These Area pickups are the end-all Strat pickups. The '61 is supposed to have a bit more oomph for "Texas Blues" players--and not that I think they are one-trick-ponies--I just wasn't trying to cop the SRV sound.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

Just dropped these pups into my '04 Special Edition Factory Blackout MIM Strat and all I can say is that these pups are sweet! I tried some DiMarzio FastTrack 1's, but wasn't getting the tone I was looking for. So, I stumbled on some forums that talked about how these pups were a good choice if you're looking for that classic "underwound" sound and weren't willing to pony-up for Kinman's or Big Dippers (if and when those come up for sale). Oh man! I am not disappointed! Crispy, creamy, woody, chimey, scooped-sounding, bell tones...yummy. This what a Stratocaster is supposed to sound like, except no 60 cycle hum! Nice job DiMarzio!

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I was considering some Duncan models to replace the stock pickups in my new strat (MIA standard). However after reading the glowing reviews of this line I decided to go with these instead, *very* glad I did. I was under the impression these were true single coil pickups, but they are actually stacked humbuckers. However, unlike other stacked humbuckers these employ some special technology where they actually sound like single coils and not like humbuckers. In fact, they sound significantly better than the stock fender pickups to me, they have a much wider range of tonal character yet still retain that distinctive strat vibe (and of course, no hum).FYI, my setup is 58/58/54Pro in neck/mid/bridge respectively.. 54Pro is slightly hotter than the 58, amazing bridge pickup.I also installed 2 DiMarzio 250k push/pull pots for different series and phase configurations. I might have gone with 500k pots if I had to choose again (DiMarzio recommends 500k in general, but notes that Area 58/54/61 all work well with 250k also).Overall, I couldn't be happier with the way this guitar turned out.. anything from virtual vintage series is highly recommended.

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

I put a set of these in my Jimmie Vaughan Strat one year ago and they're still in it. Usually, noiseless pups are a compromise in tone compared to true single coils. That's not the case with these. They sound like true single coils, with all of the tone characteristics. I also have '61s in another Strat, and they have true '61 characteristics too. These have all the thump, sparkle, and mids of a '58 Strat. I have tried Fender Vintage Noiseless, SCNs, and Lace Golds. Nothing comes close but Dimarzio Areas.

    Best Noiseless Pickup!

    By Pedal Tweaker

    from Manila, Phillippines

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

Trust me this pickup will sound at its best on hard rock maple with rosewood board with standard american bodied strat. As long as your guitar has very good volume and resonates naturally, this pickup is versatile. I like this pickup over the Area 61. The 61 is good on its own but it's less strat sound on neck and middle. Too warm and loud to my ear. Matbe it will sound best if you have a tinny sounding guitar like the one demoed on Guitar World/YouTube video. If you notice on the video the 58/58/61 sounds thin because of the guitar. Again the Area 58 smokes and sounds heaven on clean if installed full bodied sounding guitar (hard rock rosewood neck + fat body). Ay first I was disappointed because I used on a thi sounding guitar. My setup is 58/58/Heavy Blues 2. It's so balance on all tone spectrum. Lastly used 250K pots and .022 cap as Dimarzio's recommendation.

    Lincoln Brewster's Sound

    By Burzum

    from Indiana

Comments about DiMarzio DP415 Area '58 Pickup:

Lincoln Brewster uses area 58's in the neck and middle positions. Tone pot on the neck and the middle is wide open. He uses an area 61 in the bridge with a tone pot. If you're going for his sound exactly you can drop these in a '57 strat reissue, download his X3 Live tones into your Line-6 POD X3 Live and start jamming.
