The bright, clean Strat sound without the hum.

The DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 is a hum canceling pickup that has the chime of '60s pickups, and its 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy.

The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat in the hands of a master. Single-coil electric guitar pickups in 1967 were bright and very clean. And of course, they hummed. DiMarzio has captured this classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with patented Area technology. They also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity.

Recommended For: All positions, especially neck and middle

Tech Talk: Strat pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on true single-coils, which allows DiMarzio to use Alnico 2 in the DP419 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area '67 pickup produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

Not as good as the Area 58's

      By Echoman-AAYcL

      from Undisclosed

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

Again, I feel the 58's are more my taste since I like blues, classic 50's rock, and classic rock. The 67's sounded flatter to me.
I have area 58's, 61's, and 67's, and feel the 58's are the best in the neck and middle position with the 61's in the bridge. I found the 67's to be flat sounding. This is not a defect, just how they were designed. I ended up moving theminto my middle position since that is my least used position. The Area pickups are my favorite though and I've been playing for over 20 years.
Area's are the best pickups made..period. Excellent sound with no hum.

What Strats will sound like in the Future?

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

My 2 cents. I got my Dimarzio Area 67 in 2008 as part of the prewired Area pickguard and it is installed on a frankenstrat project guitar with very good to excellent components. It is primarily played through a Boss Amp Modeler through a pair of very hi fidelity open back sony headphones. The Noiseless characteristics of these pickups is a very good thing and I think that in 20 years, guitarists will look at standard single coils and the hum they come with as an old fashioned thing of the past. In a "dry" side by side comparison, you might pick the standard p-ups as being a bit more sparkly, but that is not the way the world works. Factor in your signal chain, amp etc., and I think you would pick the noiseless p-ups in the end. My favorite positions are definitely 3 & 4. The Area 67, to my ears, has real nice character, great straty tone, and the pick attack characteristics that define the "strat feel". Also, I like the harmonic characteristics of the overall package (all 3 area pickups that come in the prewired pickguard). What I am saying here is that it's not just a noiseless thing - They actually do sound very good & plenty straty. Output seems lower than other pickups, but it is only something I notice when I go from guitar to guitar. I haven't had a chance to really try other noiseless p-ups, but I can definitely recommend these, especially if we are talking about a mid range MIJ,MIM or project strat. Again... my 2 cents.

      LOVE

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

When I decided to put a humbucker in the bridge of my strat, I ran across a dilemma - 250K pots or 500K? These pickups were the solution (don't know why DiMarzio doesn't market them as such). Since they are designed for 500K pots, they sit nicely alongside a bridge humbucker without any fancy wiring. They sound great, like solid vintage single coils. Through a Plexi, very Jimi-ish. They are very responsive to dynamics, which is bringing out all kinds of shortcomings in my playing, but very expressive. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for single coils to mate with a bridge humbucker.

      BRIGHT!!!!

      By Polish John

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

Though it is usually thought of as a neck and middle position pickup, I put one of these bad boys into the bridge position on my strat. It's glorious!A very very bright sound, but as the description says, not brittle. Very 60s, but also with overdrive it gets almost a treble boost kind of sound. AND with the tone rolled back it balances out to a sound closer to that of an Area 61. Great pickup!

      Outstanding

      By Mean Mister Mustard Cap

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

I've been using Dimarzio pickups exclusively in my Fender Strats for over a year now. I picked up (ha!) this pickup about four months ago and have used it in both my neck & middle positions. The tonal quality will impress you. VERY "Stratty" sounding. Gives you a bit thicker of a sound in the neck. I moved it to the middle when I purchased a Marshall JTM 45 RI. If you've ever used one of those amps, you'll know they are VERY bassy (as the original was a copy of the Fender Bassman schematic) and put an Area 61 there instead (I'll save that for another review). The Area 67 in the middle is even better than it was in the neck. Not shrill in the slightest...pretty enough for strumming or single note picking. I'm using my middle pickup by itself more than I ever have. Here's the kicker: pair it with that Area 61 in the neck and when playing both of them in phase, the QUACK is INCREDIBLE! Wow...very percussive. Very Fender. I know there are purists out there who swear by single coils, however in my ears 60 cycle hum sounds terrible. I'd love to wire a Strat with three of these to see what it sounds like. I can't fathom that anyone would be disappointed with this pickup. I'm a rock n' roll / blues player and give this pickup a blue ribbon. If you're a newcomer to aftermarket pickups, Dimarzio will OWN YOUR FACE :-)

      Area 67

      By Will-rhmDl

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

I have the area 67 as the middle pickup on my deluxe player's strat and it (along side my area 58 neck and 61 bridge) rocks. Before I bought this pickup I never thought of the middle pickup as much besides something to add to the neck or bridge to even it out. But this pickup has shown me the light. When I use all three pickups (using the push button the the deluxe player's) it helps create a great clean but one that's unique. Paul Gilbert uses this in all three positions of his Fireman, but don't let his shred reputation fool you, this pickup is a blast from the tone past with the added bonus of zero hum (it's as/more quiet than a humbucker.

Purlpe Haze with out the Hum

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

I went out on a limb and tryed my first set of noiseless pickups. I have always hated noiseless( toneless) pickups like the Cobalts and others. I usually paly Custom Shop 69's and texas specials, but I hated the 60's cycle hum in the studio or on stage when I forget to turn down my guitar. The area 67 pickups blew me away. They have all the classic fender glassy bell like tone with out hum. These pickups reduce string pull and actually increase sustain. Further these pickups remain fat and full even when bending on the highest frets, no thin tinny sound here. Set your amp up right and you can easily get the Stevie or the Jimi tone. I love'm and the future of my Texas specail and Custom 69's is in question. Dimarzio has a satisfation guarentee, so what do you have to lose but the hum.P.S. order 500K pots for your guitar, you'll need them for the install.

      Shimmering Cleans & Really Quiet

      By SoloistMan420-cvBv9

      from Ballstack NJ

Comments about DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 Hum Canceling Strat Pickup:

I replaced the middle pickup on my Jackson Soloist SL-1 with the Area '67. It sounds overall much clearer, even with distortion on. This pickup has a very bright sound that gets cleans that I can't imagine anyone not liking. I don't know how well this recreates a '67 Strat pickup because I have only owned a MIM Strat. I thought this was well worth it.
