Get the 7-string sound that John Petrucci of Dream Theatre has spent decades perfecting.

One thing has stayed consistent throughout Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci's long and successful career: the DiMarzio pickups in his guitars. John has been pushing the envelope of progressive metal since the late eighties, and the DiMarzio Crunch Lab 7 Neck Guitar Pickup ensued from Dimarzio's most recent collaboration with John. He used this pickup throughout Dream Theater's tenth studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings. John swears this is the best live and studio sound he's ever had, and the name says it all—"crunch" is what it's all about with a big, tight sound that's neither muddy nor thin.

The DiMarzio Crunch Lab 7 is noteworthy for what it doesn't do—it's not a screamer and it's not about thundering lows. Its physical appearance is identical to DiMarzio's D Sonic 7, but the internal design is a lot different in that it's louder and the highs have more depth. The lows and mids are more open, which this is crucial for playing chords with body and presence through a gained-out amp. The way the replacement pickup attacks a note is both sharper and stronger, and this allows the Crunch Lab 7 to be installed with the solid bar facing towards the neck.

Recommended for bridge position.

Comments about DiMarzio DP708 Crunch Lab 7-String - Bridge Pickup:

If you have never experienced clear, mature, unadulterated, BALANCED tone then these pickups will simply amaze you. The clarity is unmatched by any pickup I've ever used. These things are so naturally crunchy that I had to completely redial my go-to settings in my amp and pedal board to make em sound good. By that I mean you don't need excessive post gain or drive to achieve great heavy tones. The bass response is very focused and controlled, again I had to roll back the lows on my amp to avoid muddling the natural tone. The mids are balanced and the highs are smooth. I would best describe the overall tone as 'rounded and grounded'

These pickups were installed into my 8yr old ibanez rg1527 prestige. I never realized how weak and thin the stock ones were, nor did I know how much I was relying on post signal processing to shape my tone. This upgrade made my guitar sound more natural and mature. The clean tones sparkle as well so these would go great in any guitar

    DiMarzio's Best 7-String Pickup

    By Jason Brennan

    from Providence, RI

Comments about DiMarzio DP708 Crunch Lab 7-String - Bridge Pickup:

I have both the six and seven-string version of the Crunch Lab (hereafter CL).The CL has a tight but full bass, a strong, thick midrange, and a smooth top end. It has enough presence to crunch, and generates harmonics with ease, but it is never harsh. It's impressive how well it handles the entire range of the guitar. Normally a pickup that sounds clear on the low B will be brittle on high notes, but this pickup can take you from low riffing to upper fret solos. Though thick and massive sounding, it is never boomy or flabby, and it remains clear even with loads of distortion on top. Great not just for metal, but for a wide range of styles. Splits very nicely.

This Pickup is simply Awsome! The bottom end is tight and focused and the highs are full of body and clarity! The response and harmonics are Perfect. I replaced my factory EMG's with this on my Shecter Hellraiser and it is great! Highley recommend it!
