The best features of an active pickup, but with no batteries required.

The Book is still being written about what an 8-string pickup should sound like. DiMarzio think it should have a wide frequency response, be very articulate and dynamic, and not be muddy.

The DiMarzio DP820 D-Activator 8-String Bridge Humbucker model is most definitely a high-output pickup, with powerful, focused bass response combined with warm highs and extended harmonic overtones. The lows are just as tight and defined as the D-activator 6 and 7-string models, and the highs are a little smoother with strong attack.

Features
  • Powerful and open sound
  • Lots of headroom
  • Excellent harmonics
  • Responds perfectly to pick attack
  • No muddiness on low strings

Make your 8-string guitar come alive even more. Order today.

Comments about DiMarzio DP820 D-Activator 8-String Bridge Humbucker:

This pickup was a great upgrade in the bridge position on my Ibanez RG8. It has a good deal more midrange than the stock pickup, which makes it sound a little more 'detailed' especially in the lower registers. This model is quite a bit hotter than the stock model as well. The installation was a little tricky since the RG8 doesn't have any pickup mounting rings, but Dimarzio supplied both standard height adjustment screws as well as wood screws for direct mounting, which is what I had to do on this particular model (detailed directions as well as the correct size drill bit came with the pickup). The overall length of this model is a little shorter than the oversized rout used to accomadate the stock pickup (which looks like an active pickup housing, but is, in fact, passive). So there is a bit of extra space on either side of the pickup (don't forget to make sure the polepieces are aligned under the strings). Since the original pickups were passive it was pretty straight forward wiring them up. The D-Activators are supposed to sound like an active pickup without the hassle of worrying about a 9 volt battery, and they really do feel and sound like an active model. I never really cared for active pickups (they always felt to 'hard' and sounded to 'crushing' all the time) but these sound really good, especially for tight rhythms. John5 (Rob Zombie)and Chris Broderick (Megadeth) both use this model as well.

Comments about DiMarzio DP820 D-Activator 8-String Bridge Humbucker:

Dropped this pickup in a Schecter Omen 8 in the bridge. It was a definite improvement over the stock Schecter pickup, but overpowered the neck by a long shot. Need to replace both at the same time. Cleaner, better tone.

Comments about DiMarzio DP820 D-Activator 8-String Bridge Humbucker:

i think these are the answer to buying say a lundgren or a bareknuckle pickup set, these are very very good not just for the price but because they rawk,

thanks for your time, it's been officially wasted
