After trying many different brands/types of strings in search of the perfect balance of tone and playability I've concluded that these are it! I only wish they had an in between gauge because I prefer heavier gauge for my A and low E strings. The tone is incredible, very unique sparkle or shimmer. Honestly they sound like a choir of angels. And that wonderful brightness lasts for about 25-30 hours of playing time before dying out. I don't need a string to last months. I don't like the stifled tone of coated strings and don't mind having to change strings more frequently. Most uncoated strings last me anywhere from a week to a month before losing that brand new tone I love. These Sunbeams are on the longer lasting edge of that spectrum and are more than worth their price each month. If you hate changing strings, buy coated. If you don't mind changing them and want the best tone possible, go with these. Do yourself a favor and try them on.

"Sunbeams" evoke a sunny day feeling with the promise of everything good happening to a person.
I wish I could say the same thing of these strings. I've been playing for 45 years . Changed ALOT OF STRINGS in that time and never ran into the problems faced with these strings. They seem to be more sensitive to string winding damage than other brands i've had. I had them all installed and while tuning them, found 3 of the string dead or sounding like a rubber band. replaced the dead ones ( one had begun to come unwound at the bottom likely causing the dead sound) with MF budget strings and bamm, all was well. Go figure-maybe a bad production day?? I sent one of the strings back to DR asking a replacement and haven't heard anything yet. I wouldn't recomend using with bridge pins, maybe with thru hole mounting.

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeam Phosphor Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Usually I play coated strings to make them last longer since I teach a lot. However, I needed to stop compromising my sound and my student had an extra pack he insisted I try. Now, I am not usually one to write a review - but this is a great and relatively inexpensive way to improve your sound. Have not tried round core strings before, though I do like DR Tite-fit for electric. But on an acoustic, they really add a lot and the round feels so much more flexible, playing 12's feels almost like 11's but gives you a thundering volume. I've been through 2 sets in what a coated string would normally take in 2 sets, so I am saying it is definitely worth checking out and not bothering with coated strings!!! Finally!!! I am a convert.

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeam Phosphor Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I was recommended these by the guy who sold my acoustic guitar. It is a handmade, solid spruce top that was made at a luthier school as a final project.

I had on some Martin 11s prior, they were alright.
I could immediately hear the difference in the tone. The tone seems brighter, but all the strings are balanced in terms of volume. You get good note separation when playing a chord, and there is not much decay when a string is struck. When the vibration drops past a certain threshold, the sound just drops off the table completely. I have never heard that in any strings on any guitar I have owned.

Because these are 12s, they are a little hard to bend, so I mainly just use it for chords. I just restrung the guitar, so I don't know if the longevity is there. But DR has a good reputation for this.

I have been playing for 4 years, mostly classic rock and blues. I am on my second acoustic guitar. I usually practice rythym guitar parts on my acoustic, and then for rehersals I plug in one of my electrics to wail (Gretsch, Tele, Ibby, etc.)

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeam Phosphor Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

This was my first time using these strings and after they had stretched something was still sounding off. I checked my intonation and the G string was grievously sharp. After fishing my old string out of the garbage it confirmed that the new DR was the problem. How did this get past the quality control or do they even have one? Strings that lack intonation are useless, period.

Tried this for fun, everyone says "warmer" sound, On my Masterbilt OM they were Weird. Like nothing I've every heard before. No overtones, just a "tone". Changed out after a week. Could sound great on another instrument, but buy with that in mind. Tried the Martin Retro Monel for same reason, (mellow warmth) instead, just plain "dead" sound. John Pearse 600L worked out fine.

This is my 4th set of DR strings. I bought all on reviews and higher priced sets. I fail to understand how DR is still in business. Never again. These strings squeak on the bridge and squeak loud, sound dull and flat, no volume. Enough. Buy something else.

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeam Phosphor Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've been a huge fan of DR's bass strings and use nothing else on my 5 string basses. So, when I bought a new Breedlove acoustic I bought a set of these DR Sunbeam mediums and strung 'em up. First thing I noticed is they were quite a bit louder than the D'addarios that came on the guitar. I've had the guitar 6 weeks but don't know how long the strings sat on the guitar before I bought it. They have a great tone, not much different than the D'addarios, but they are definitely louder. The Breedlove has a cedar top and these work very well with that. They seem very stiffer than the .012" D'addarios that came on the guitar.

Overall, these are a great match for the Breedlove Pursuit Concert with the Cedar Top. I will stick with them but might try a medium-light set next time.

These strings sound fantastic.I play fingerstyle guitar & have been experimenting with many different brands trying to find the right ones. These strings are bright & crisp with excellent sustain. Just what I've been looking for. I also play many alternate tunings, & so far the DR Sunbeams are holding up fine. When I put them on & started playing, I was like, "Eureka!" I finally found the strings that put out the sound I desire. They have much volume & also sound good flat picking. I would recommend for anyone who is is searching for the "right strings" to give these a shot. You won't be disappointed!

I had purchased a bulk supply of these strings from an independent retailer awhile back, and was a convert to DR Sunbeams from D'Addario EJ16s. I was a hardcore D'add user for awhile (they make great strings) but these Sunbeams are unbeatable. They have long lasting tone, a bright, clear, and balanced sound throughout all of the frequency ranges, and they feel decent. I just replaced my strings back to DR Sunbeams after having a set of Elixirs on there for a few months. The guitar was about 40% louder after putting the Sunbeams on, and the chords ring louder and clearer. I liked the feel of the Elixirs slightly better but the tone is definitely tops with these. If they made a smoother feeling coated version I would be sold instantly. I recommend these to a lot of guitar players...check these out.

Comments about DR Strings Sunbeam Phosphor Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Good value, feel and sound very resonant. Rich tone and good to tame a new guitar or a slightly trebly or 'tinny' one. The lower tension is noticeable.

Tips : Have your luthier use nut slot files to get the slots lowered and smoothed so the strings pass the '3rd fret test' of virtually no gap at fret 1-2 when you press just past fret 3. Get by with the minimum neck relief (you can always let 1/8 turn looser with no harm). And use FastFret on your strings and the fretboard. FastFret is scented mineral oil.
I keep a small piece of damp sponge in my case (NOT for nitrocellulose finished guitars!) to keep the guitar humidified.... a properly humidified and well set up guitar is MUCH easier and fun to play!
They come to pitch a a lightly lower tension than other strings becasue they are wound on a round core (not hex). But you should read the package inside for tips on how to keep the wrap wire bound to the flattened area of the core wire. And do not stretch them in as you usually do. Just a gentle tug at the 12th fret is plenty to snug them at the bridge pin and tuner shaft.

The lower tension makes them feel like they play easier, and they do! They will corrode, so use FastFret and otherwise keep them clean. I use an old Tshirt to wipe under the strings and the top of the string takes care of itself. Applying FastFret when they are new lets the FastFret oil get into the grooves of the wrap wire and keep out skin contaminants. Corrosion and a lot of retuning makes them go flat faster.
Well made, but not packed in sealed plastic pouches. I never had a dead one or a failure (I play fingerstyle with nails from classical study).
Not the cheapest, but last well and do sound quite good. D'Addario EJ16 can be bought for a great price.
