I agree with the other reviews here, I just want to add that if you have the proper expectations, then this is a good product. Firstly, you do not want to use this on a 12 string guitar because the span of the strings is too wide for the low and high E's to be picked up. Secondly, you do not want this to be your only sound source. An inexpensive sound hole pickup just isn't going to capture the brilliance and the body of your guitar.

To get the best sound from this bargain pickup, I recommend that you run it through a pedal that can boost and equalize the signal prior to amplification. Selective frequency cutting can take out the metalicness and restore the warmth. In fact, the result can be more natural sounding than bridge pickups which tend to be cold and sharp sounding.

Ideally you should use this pickup in cooperation with a microphone, with a 50/50 mix, so that you can get the volume you want without loosing the natural character.

Sure, easy to install, but I had it going through a direct box, through a 100 ft. snake into a mixer panel and I received a horrible hum through the main system. Even without the snake and using different direct boxes it hummed. Not good for performance. You get cheap... expect cheap.

Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:

This pickup has good sound. The highs are clear and the lows are good, too. I've read other reviews about this being "tinny" sounding. I disagree with this assessment, and suspect that "tinny" sound other(s) have heard, is due to the amp that they are using. I put this through a Roland cube, and play jazz through it. It sounds beautiful. If you're thinking of getting one of these, do it. I've worked with lots of different pickups. This one is definitely worth the money. I recommend this pickup.

Works well for my purpose. Like others have said they are not very loud (no preamp), but work fine with the amp turned up.

Easy installation. Sounds great. The problem is, what do I do with the chord when I choose not to use it as electric and I prefer to keep the pickup in my guitar instead of removing it back and forth.

Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:

I have had this pickup for about three years. It sounds good on my Ibanez 12 string. The only thing is I got sick of dragging the cord around. I tried Velcro wraps, it kept dropping out and dragging. I finally cut the cord about 18" from the pickup and mounted a 1/4" jack in my guitar for a permanent set up. Took about 15 minutes and it works great.

I wired this straight to the guitars output jack in my wife's Takamine when its original preamp gave up the ghost. I wanted a simple straight to the pedalboard solution & while it's a bit darker in sound (not a bad thing)it's small, sturdy & simple.
