I agree with the other reviews here, I just want to add that if you have the proper expectations, then this is a good product. Firstly, you do not want to use this on a 12 string guitar because the span of the strings is too wide for the low and high E's to be picked up. Secondly, you do not want this to be your only sound source. An inexpensive sound hole pickup just isn't going to capture the brilliance and the body of your guitar.
To get the best sound from this bargain pickup, I recommend that you run it through a pedal that can boost and equalize the signal prior to amplification. Selective frequency cutting can take out the metalicness and restore the warmth. In fact, the result can be more natural sounding than bridge pickups which tend to be cold and sharp sounding.
Ideally you should use this pickup in cooperation with a microphone, with a 50/50 mix, so that you can get the volume you want without loosing the natural character.

Got this hoping for a cheap solution to plus in to a PA for open mics and shows. Sound guys will want to slap you for using this pickup. It is very quiet. You have to crank the volume on the amp/PA and even then there is no way you're gonna be heard if you're playing with other people. It produces thin, chintzy tone that just makes you look like a joke. Also, the foam that secures it in to the soundhole wore out after about 2 months. Do not get this product.

I installed this pickup and plugged it into my big 100 watt Peavey, which is solid state, and it sounds really good! Clean, good tone, good sound.
I would certainly recommend one. For the money, I think you will be happy. Didn't sound too good through my Fender tube amp, kind of muddys it.

Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:
I have had this PU for well over 5 years, and in that time it has never gave me one problem. NEVER had any volume issues with it, it has driving every amp-DI-recording interface-snake with no problem.
It is now in my Seagull Folk, complimenting my JJB (K&K style) SBP, and it flat out ROCKS in this combination. I went ahead and hard-wired it to a stereo jack and now have a fantastic sounding "plug & play" setup.
I have also used it in my Dean EAB with GREAT results, and now that I have a JJB installed in it also it is time to order another one of these. This JJB-Maverick combo is my studio secret...
You can NOT get a better deal IMHO!

Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:
for the price the pickup works fine. it sounds more like an electric than an acoustic guitar though. I noticed that you need to turn the volume up almost all the way. needs a pre-amp to boost signal.
Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:
I got this pick up expecting a loud and rich tone and I can barely get anything out of it. When I record with it the gain is all the way up and its still not very loud. If I plug it into a PA system it has to be turned up almost all the way to even hear it. I was expecting more out of it.
Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:
It's a wonderful buy, with unmatched sound and capabilities. I've seen complaints of it falling out while playing. You just have to crank it on there. (Don't worry, there's ample padding). The only thing wrong with it is that on my Epiphone DR-212 (12 string), the two low E's aren't as loud as the others. Quick and easy fix, just raise it or put it on at an angle, and that problem disappears. I have yet to hear a better pickup in this category. In fact, this pickup is in it's OWN category, nothing else comes close.
Pros - It fits on almost any acoustic guitar, 6 or 12 string.
Cons - On some 12-string guitars, the two low strings (Low and Mid E) don't play nearly as loud as the other 10 (mine included). This is easily fixed by adding extra padding underneath to raise the pickup, or put it on at an angle.
This is an AMAZING pickup and it rivals (in my opinion) my Les Paul's. It also shocks people when i tell them I got a Seymour Duncan for such a low price. It's a pretty good feeling, believe me.
Amazing value. It captures the same sound of more expensive Fishmans for less than a sixth of the price. That's IT!
Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:
I purchased the pickup to install in my Ventura 12 string which I purchased in the late 60's. No problem with installation. Installed with strings still on. Has a good quality sound. The only drawback is there is no volumn control. This can be eliminated with a pedal. Since the guitar already had a jack to plug a cord in from a previous pickup, I was able to install it with plug in. You don't have to cut the cord to do this. Very good product for price. Better than buying a new guitar.
Easy Installation
Well made
Good quality for price
Comments about Duncan Performer Maverick Soundhole Pickup:
I would not recommend this model for a 12 string guitar.
Installation was easy and it plays well through a 10 watt practice amp.
No problem with the quality of the pickup. It does not pickup the sound from the 1st and 6th strings on my12 string Harmony as well as I would like, but all in all, it is adequate. Raising the pickup to bring it closer to the strings helped.
Very good sound quality for the price.
