OVERVIEW

A crunchy and aggressive dual-coil and fat single-coil guitar pickup with separate preamps.

The 81TWX humbucker pickup takes an EMG classic to a new level. The dual-mode design allows for maximum flexibility, with the original 81 guitar pickup providing all the crunch and aggressiveness it's famous for with an all-new single-coil that features a fatter tone with plenty of punch and clarity. Either mode is accessed through a push/pull pot for versatility. Dual internal preamps, one tuned for single-coil mode and the other for dual-coil mode, give the 81TWX guitar pickup two distinct sounds while delivering EMG's well known noise-cancelling technology in both modes.

The EMG 81TWX humbucker and other pickups from the X-series provide increased headroom, giving the voicing an organic and open tone while still maintaining the clarity and response that EMGs are renowned for. The EMG 81TWX pickups are best described as bridging the gap between passive and active tone.

The EMG 81TWX humbucker package includes: EMG's exclusive Solderless Install System, a split shaft volume/tone control set, an output jack, a battery clip set, plus screws and springs.

Note: standard EMG humbucker pickups are 0.9" thick. The 81TWX's thickness is 1.1", which is a difference of 0.22".

Get crunch and aggression in dual-mode or fat tone with clarity in single-coil mode when you order the EMG 81TWX today.

Comments about EMG 81TWX Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:

Lovin it. I dropped this in one of MY Les Paul Supremes along with an 89XR in the neck. Wow! Talk about endless pickup combinations. I love the sound of it. Maintains the integrity of the original 81, with the added functionality of the X series and the coil splitting. Getchya some "strat" sounds out of your Les Paul. Recommended.

make sure you know ur guitar first

Comments about EMG 81TWX Dual-Mode Humbucker Guitar Pickup:

an active pickup that switches between humbucker and single-coil mode. I installed in my Gibson SG special faded and found out that the push-pull pots don't fit inside the compartment (or rather I can't close it anymore) but that's a guitar issue. The instructions aren't the best in the world, had to do a little trial and error. and it takes a little while to identify errors. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR ELECTRONICS BEFORE BUYING THIS. One problem I had during installation was that it didn't play on the 2nd connector of the stereo jack - but that was easily fixed by inverting the connector found at the back of the pickup. despite being a solderless system as well, you will have to do a little soldering for the switch to the B157 buss if you have a new switch. other than that, you can still use the same switch from your old setup. sound-wise it is pristine - quiet and no hums, strong and powerful on the lows. sounds like an EMG 81. its internal shielding made sure you didn't have to connect the ground wire from the bridge. I'm writing this review for all future buyers, who want an EMG 81 sound and something more. recommended with EMG 89X-R for very diverse but compatible sound.(EMG recommends this as well, when I emailed their tech support).
