Comments about EMG PHZ Passive Electric Bass Guitar Pickup:
I like these a lot. I'm always tweaking and redoing basses and I have found the EMG HZ's to be a great pickup for getting some more volume and punch while keeping the classic p bass sound. These have been called "Hi-Fi" sounding but while there is a lot of treble, I don't think they are are too "clean" sounding.
Nice wire plug-in system at the pickups keeps everything neat and secure.
I can see no manufacturing flaws after installing 3 sets.
I think these are a good value; they do what they are supposed to do, and while they aren't cheap price-wise, they at least aren't greatly overpriced either. They are sturdier than some of the boutique pickups I've had the musfortune of owning.
Comments about EMG PHZ Passive Electric Bass Guitar Pickup:
Aside from the one issue with the ppup that does not linke to have too much pressure on the solderless connection, the pups are top knotch and worth ever penny.
The solderless connection system is going to be great for future EMG installs, but since this was the first time I've used them, I did need to solder the wires to the pots.
I purchased two sets of these for a bass with a double P set up. One of the sets has a pick up that is very sensitive when I tighten down the screws to adjust the pup height. If I tighten it too much, the EA pup goes out. I assume it is a connection problem with the solderles connection. I have it worked out now and hopefully nothing else appears in the years of use I expect to get out of these pups.
Looks great. The sounds quality is crisp and clear. It was a HUGE upgrade from the stock pups and I will certainly recommend EMG to others. EMG was recommended to me by a guitar tech with over 20 years of experience and he was right.
With free shipping and a holiday code from MF, the set was very affordable and I feel like I got a good deal on really quality pups.
Comments about EMG PHZ Passive Electric Bass Guitar Pickup:
These are great, I replaced these from my dumb little Silvertone. I removed the frets as well, and these pickups define a shocking resemblance to an upright bass with fretless. The wiring was extremely simple, there is no hum, great output, and fit very well in the pcikup slot. I would recomend this to anone, even with frets these pickups sound so good. Very versatile, get these.
Comments about EMG PHZ Passive Electric Bass Guitar Pickup:
I'm extremely happy with my emg phz pick up and would recommend them to any bass player. I build my own warmoth guitars and bass guitars and the wiring was simple. These pickups are quiet, have great output, punch, tone, clarity, and definition. I used 500k pots and the recommended .047uf capacitor along with an emg mmhz in the bridge position for an infinate pallet of sounds. I play through a carvin BX1200 head,4x10 cab with horn, and 1x15 bottom cab. try a set of DR Marcus Miller fatbeams strings, I love the sound I get with this string and pickup combination.
