Comments about EMG ST-12 SRO Dual Humbucker Prewired Pickguard:
Solid product, retains great definition in higher gain settings, lots of harmonics, and still decent clean tones. If you are looking to get a more substantial or heavier sound out of your strat, this is a great choice. If you play mostly with some degree of distortion, you will love these pickups, and the installation is a breeze. However, be aware that if you love that clear bell-like single coil tone, you will sacrifice that with these pickups. Also, don't buy these humbuckers solely for the purpose of bucking hum, because they don't. They are hot, and you're going to get a little hum when you are not touching he strings, similar to a single coil. But just keep playing and you'll be fine!
I rate the features at an nine, even though I got exactly what I thought and it was all the features I wanted. I only lowered it by a point from ten because I think that it would have been so easy for them to offer a coil tap option as well. These pickups seem pretty hot and the nearest coil of the neck pickup is right over the harmonics, so it would have been nice to have that single coil sound available. The connection system these guys (and Duncan) have is so good, completely solderless. I can't understand why it has taken until now for people to come up with that. It made the work fun, sure, and fast.
This is a very well built system, easy installation, and looks great. The volume pot has a little less turning resistance than the tone pot, not sure why that is the case. The sound is awesome, especially with gain, but still sounds very acceptable clean. The clean sound is definitely not single coil clear sounding, but the distorted sound could pass for a really hot single coil with lots of definition still coming through. However, there is a little hum in all positions.
Excellent value for the dollar. When you consider what all these things (the pickguard; pots; pickups; switch; wires) would cost seperate, and then add for the labor and/or hassle of the labor, this is a great deal.

10+
I used this prewired setup for my partscaster build. The sound and punch this EMG setup has is worth every penny. Using Mighty Mite body and neck for the build, this was a pretty much perfect fit. I think these pickups and pot combo EMG used sounds better then my $2000 Les Paul.

I forgot to say on my previous review... The down side is that it did no fit the cavity of my Squier Affinity 20th Anniversary Edition.. I've had to do MAJOR remodeling on my guitar... Literally, I'd carved the inside for it to fit properly... But since is only a cheap guitar I took the risk... If you need to do this on a expensive guitar, I'd recommend taking it to a professional luthier...

I am very satisfied with this product... Great sound, easy to install and at a reasonable price... Great job EMG!
For their price, they are worth every penny and much more... They are versatile, which is a very important characteristic since I play a wide variety of music (mainly rock)... When using high gain distortions at above 6 volume thru both my Fender Frontman 212 and my Line 6 Spider II it really shows their true colors... They respond very well and they are almost completely noiseless... I go from grinding riffs to power ballads to latin rock and these SOBs behave very well...
It was a HUGE improvement for my Squier Affinity 20 year Commemorative guitar... The minute I popped these babies in, the sound quality of my guitar improved from one worth $100 to a $500+ guitar... If you have a crappy strato that for some weird reason you love and hate to lose, I strongly recommend these pickups... The craftmenship of the guys at EMG is completely oustanding... Very clean job and easy to install... Great investment.
I like to bargain, so, if I would like to pay less... But, like I've said before... Worth every penny and more!
