Eminence

An ingenious way to control your amp's tone.

The Eminence Maverck™ 12" guitar speaker with patent-pending FDM™ technology puts tonal control at your fingertips. Just turn the modulator knob to adjust speaker output and amplifier interaction, helping you find that sweet spot of saturated tube tone but at a significantly lower volume.

Tweak the Maverck's knob for a wide range of tones: More attenuation affords a warmer tone while less attenuation restores volume and brightness.

Working well for me

Comments about Eminence Maverick FDM Tone Adjustable 12" Guitar Speaker - 8 ohm:

I own two Mavericks, neither was purchased here. I like them a lot. If you own a tube amp and need to keep the peace in a condo or apt you -need- one of these!
I will say it's not some kind of volume-damping miracle that's going to let you crank your amp wide open in the bedroom... but it did let me get my 40 watt Frenzel out of the gate and turned up to 3 - 6 where the power tubes could at least breath a little, while keeping levels tolerable in my small rehearsal space. Tonewise I like it fine, even attenuated all the way, but there might be an SPL-damaged tin ear or even two coloring that impression. They definitely benefit from some breaking-in. After 20-30 hours play time and the louder the better, the Maverick opened up a little and gained some definition. I'm liking it in my Avatar Contemporary 1x12 in the studio. I ordered a 2nd to put in an open-back combo cabinet, so that I can pipe a Champ through it at home. I can crank the Champ almost wide open without being ridiculously loud. This Rules. Try to arrange to give it some wide-open break-in early on and you'll be that much happier with yours.
I suppose the flux mod dial is one feature more than any other speaker on the market has.
The frame is the usual Eminence stamped steel. It's OK. The dial that does the limiting is a little stiff on both of mine, but since you probably don't want it moving on it's own that's a good thing.
I love mine.

Everything you want in a speaker... and less!

Comments about Eminence Maverick FDM Tone Adjustable 12" Guitar Speaker - 8 ohm:

Sounds like an ad for beer doesn't it?Anyway, as far as I know this is the first review of the Maverick by anyone who actually put down good money for it. I waited for a while for a review because I had two concerns: Would the FDM attenuator actually work and would the speaker meet the rather high standards I have for how a US voiced speaker should sound. I have a Eminence "Red, White and Blues" that I like and I hoped this speaker would not immediately make me go back to the R,W&B.Finally I got tired of waiting for a review... so, the results of my rather expensive gamble: The Maverick sounds just exactly the way a US voiced speaker should, IMHO. It sounds just as Eminence describes it, "balanced" and it has no bad habits as far as I have found. The FDM attenuator works as well or better than any other attenuator I have tried (and this has been quite a few). This or any other attenuator will not work miracles and give you exactly the same sound at "don't wake the baby" level that it does at "peel the paint of the walls" level. Some of the joy of high volume comes from the "feel" of high volume, but this speaker could keep you from being thrown out of a club or breaking the lease on your apartment. I would record with the attenuation on, which is probably not something I would do with any other attenuator. The only caveat is that it only works with open back cabinets, but since it's a US voiced speaker there's a good chance that's what you have.
