OVERVIEW

Ernie Ball 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings are round-wound for maximum clarity and serious punch. The Cobalt Series is clearly an improvement on its classic nickel-wound counterpart giving the player increased sustain, clarity and output. In addition, they resist sweat and moisture better and have unmatched flexibility when compared to other nickel wound strings. Cobalt is the most magnetically active string alloy on the planet and attracts the magnets in your pickups more than any other string.

"Ernie Ball Cobalt Bass Strings are the new standard! Bigger, better tone, sustain and volume. Finally a real innovation with strings." - Randy Jackson
"I can't believe how much low end I get out of Ernie Ball Cobalt Bass Strings. Also, the high end is super crisp, seemingly with more definition. Unbelievable." - Dave Larue

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance and long life. Made in the USA.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings:

As I wrapped the E string (110), half way around the nut the inner string snapped. It was brittle. The other three were just fine.

Comments about Ernie Ball 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings:

I bought these strings back in January to replace the stock strings on my Ibanez Soundgear(Elixers). These strings are the best in my opinion for the kind of player who is constantly changing his/her tone so if you have an onboard EQ these are the right way to go. If you play a bass with simpler passive controls these are not what you want as they have a very defined tone caused by the increased magnetic attraction to the pickups and will need to be refined, something a P/J bass would never be able to do by normal means. Ideally you want to put these on a bass with covered pickups and wide bar magnets such as EMG, Bartolini and Seymour Duncan to get the most out of that increased magnetism instead of relying on pole-pieces to capture the sound (The exception being MM style pickups which have larger pole-pieces and are in line with the string). I have yet to see any wear on these strings nor have I noticed a significant change besides of course the tone thickening up after being broken in. I will trust Ernie Ball Cobalt strings for both live playing and recording.

Review of 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings

Comments about Ernie Ball 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings:

These are decent sounding strings, I'd say about average. Not very sparkly, but more mellow for rounds. Very stiff, terrible for slapping and popping but have a good pick tone. These are easily as stiff and unbendable as heavy flatwounds, though. However this is all in standard tuning. Once I went half step down and standard D, these strings really started to shine. In drop tunings, they lossened up a bit, but not too much. Many strings get too flabby in drop tunings, but these were really smooth. In short, if you like drop tunings, these are really nice, but not very distinctive in standard unless you like your roundwounds REALLY stiff.

          Cobalt Power Slinky Bass Strings

Comments about Ernie Ball 2731 Cobalt Power Slinky Electric Bass Strings:

I'll post a more thorough review after tonight's show.. It will be a bit slanted since I had to replace the "G" string with one of my stande Dean Markley SR-2000 which have always served me well on any bass I have tried them on..
Middle of the road for now.. I just put them on & am doing my first show with them tonight..
Not starting out the best... "G" string snapped right at the tuner when first installing.. Never had this happen before on any of my basses or types of strings
Pricing was average for strings. Which I honestly feel "ALL" bass strings are way overpriced for what they are..
