Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Universal Guitar Gig Bag:
Padding is very good, though not great. Certainly good enough for normal use, though I wouldn't throw it in the baggage hold of an airplane or bus. I might be reluctant to throw it into an equipment truck too. Good enough to throw into the overhead compartment of an airplane.
Zippers are the same quality as those on my cheaper gig bags but are probably adequate for daily use such as throwing it into your car to go to a rehearsal or gig. It remains to be seen how long they will last.
Hand straps and shoulder strap are pretty flimsy and I think that they might fall apart after a few years. We'll see how it goes.
When I ordered the Music Man Universal Guitar Gig Bag, I assumed that it would be a smaller version of my Sterling by Music Man bass gig bag and that turned out to be right on the money. What I've been disappointed with in both the bass and guitar gig bags is that the carrying straps, both for hand carrying and for shoulder carrying, are pretty thin and flimsy. I have two other gig bags that were half the price of the Music Man and they both have better straps, although their padding isn't as good. The non-form-fitting triangular shape of the Music Man makes it easy for many electric guitars to fit nicely into this bag. My Strat slipped in very nicely
The thickness of the padding of the Music Man gig bag is very good, certainly better than what's in the the three cheaper gig bags I have. I rate the quality of the MM bag as a 9 because I'm aware that there are bags with even thicker padding, although those bags cost probably twice as much as the MM. The quality of the zipper is the same as those on my cheaper gig bags, which cost a little more than half as much, so that's not so good either but they're all okay. I have a trombone gig bag which has a much heavier duty zipper but that gig bag cost almost three times as much as the MM gig bag, and the trombone bag also has much thicker padding, not to mention better quality straps. Comparing apples to oranges, I know, but padding, zippers, and straps are all part of these bags, both guitar and trombone, and they are important components to both type of bags. I was waffling between 8 and 9 for the quality of this MM gig bag but decided on a 9 because I believe you'd have to spend a lot more money, probably double or more, to get something significantly better.
I rated the Value of the MM gig bag as a 10. I believe that you would have to spend twice as much as the $ that I did for this bag to get anything significantly better.
