Gives the deep, dynamic sound you've been looking for.
Evans broke new ground by developing the EC2 batter head, which removes unwanted overtones, focuses pitch, and enhances attack without inhibiting the dynamic range as other damped heads do. Rolls around the toms spread in clean intervals; floor toms groan with presence. The EC2 features an "Edge-Control" ring mounted underneath two plies of 7mil film. By controlling, instead of eliminating, edge vibration, the ring isolates and damps higher overtones, enhancing low-end and attack, and enabling a broader tuning range.
The EC2 coated tom head has a fine, translucent frosted coating. The result is a warm tone and additional focus. This head is true targeted tone enhancement rather than a haphazard muffling system.

I have a vintage Gretsch Blackhawk kit and used these as a total replaced for my previous Remo skins. The Evans tuned up fairly easily. The sound is deep and whole. Definately a 70's sound (for those of us who remember) similar to Led Zepplin, etc. Overall, I very much enjoy playing these skins. I find myself doing a few extras rounds just to hear the them resonate! For the price, I don't think you can go wrong.
I got the EC2s to replace my old Hydraulic Blues. The hydraulics were nice, but they weren't loud enough and decayed a bit too fast for me. The EC2s have none of those annoying high-end overtones that most other heads have, and the coating really brings out the low end. I've used many different kinds of heads (and plan on using more) including Remo Ambassadors, Evans EC2 clears, and Evans Hydraulics, and the EC2 coated heads are my favorite so far.
My brother got these for his Ludwig set to replace the stock heads that were about 4 years old. The sound is so much better. The new heads have a better attack and a slightly shorter sustain with less overtones than the stock heads. The EC2 head does not have the loose paper sound that his stock heads had. I like the sound enough that I am going to put the EC2 clear on my pdp set.
