If you are looking for some really nice twangy tone with lots of headroom on the volume, then these pickup's will please you. Be aware that the bridge is not grounded & prone to feedback during high gain applications if the volume is rolled past 50%. And the bridge pickup is microphonic. I love these pickups! They scream!

I rate these pickups overall at a 6, not because of how they sound, but because of an issue I had when installing them in my thinline as per their instructions. According to the documentation that came with the pickups, when I wired the neck pickup "correctly, it was out of phase with the bridge pickup. I had to reverse the wiring to get the 2 pickups in phase, and move the ground wire that grounds the pickup cover. Also, the pickup mounts to the pickguard on a thin line, using machine screws, not wood screws as on my MIM, nor to the body as on an older tele I have. I had to drill the pickup mounting holes and glue nuts to the bottom of the pickup to make it work.
I must like them, because this is my third set. I bought my first set in 1991 for my American Standard Strat. I bought a second set for my 2010 MIM tele, and I bought a third set recently for my 1971 tele thinline. I like the tone, and the fact that they don't squeal when you use overdrive or distortion like the older original pickups did. I'd give them a 10 except for the fact that I almost never give anything a 10.
The quality is good on these pickups, they haven't changed any since the first set I bought.
I think these pickups are a good value for the money they cost.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups:

I built my own Telecaster (Warmoth body/neck) and these were my first pickup choice. They sound great - very powerful with nice crunch. Neck is a little sloppy on the lows, but I may just need to adjust height a little better. Very crisp mids and highs on both pickups. If you install these, make sure to put some copper shielding in the pickup cavities - my friend's guitar is noisy without it - mine is dead silent with proper shielding. The wiring instructions from Fender are completely useless - just do a search online and there are lots of sources with more detail. Install was a snap once I had decent schematics. I play thru a Peavey DeltaBlues 210. Sounds amazing, but of course YMMV depending on application. They are very warm pickups with no effects, but they have enough punch to go fully psycho, if you're willing to deal with some noise associated with the gain (pretty typical of most single-coil p'ups). Overall, awesome choice if you're looking for a good blues/bayou/classic rock sound. Would not be my go-to for metal or jazz...

    Get 'em while they're hot....

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups:

These babies fattened up my American Standard in the middle position coming out of my Blues Deville to the point I can use it for rhythm guitar without tarnishing that bite on my treble side. Much more mid range and bass. I play a lot of Johhny Cash tunes where I need that muffled bass thump in the key of 'E'. These babies turned my new tele from acceptable to panfastic for the Johhny Sound. I use texas specials on my custom shop strat, but I was pining to get that train rolling and still have that tele bite on the solos. Can't say my strat is wanting, but there's something about that tele bite on the top....besides, I like the way it plays a little better than the strat.....Gitya some boy....

    Explosive sound and tone

    By MS9314537

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups:

Overall, Top of the line pickups. I recommend these to anyone with a tele that come with "stock" pickups
I put these in my Highway 1 Tele and its not even the same guitar. The dynamics from light to heavy picking are hands down superior to what came on the Hwy1. If you are thinking about this mod, definitely do it!!
They are CS pickups, they're high quality.
Not even an amp change can make the guitar sound this good.

Very nice and full of punch!
These pickups, turned my guitar into a totally different guitar. It sounds like I wanted it to, every since I have owned it. If you are thinking about these pickups and you like good Tele twang, look no further these pickups are what you want!! I am very pleased with them!
The tone is great from mellow to twang! Great quality!
Not to mention, they are some what hotter than a normal pickup.

    Fender Texas Special Pickups

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups:

I bought these pickups to put on my Grizzly Industries Telecaster kit. The pickups that came with it were pretty good and it sounded like a Tele but they were not as sharp as the Tele I played down at the music store with the Texas Specials. So I took the leap. If you have a stock tele you owe it to yourself to get a set of these pickups. It increased the out put and both pickups in series it is awesome.
I had to do a little modification on the control plate that the four position switch mounts to. The slot was not long enough for the switch to reach the 1st and 4th positions. I has to lengthen the slot with my Dremel tool. Also the screws are a different size than the ones I had. Also, Fenders wiring diagram for the 4 way switch is not correct. I went to the web site of Acme Guitar Works and got their wiring diagram for the tele and four way switch and it worked ok.

If you buy the Texas Special pickups be sure and get the four way switch, you won't regret it!

    Superb Product

    By Steve Mitchell

    from Peoria, AZ

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups:

My wife bought a set of these for me this past Christmas. I put them in my 40 year old Tele which sounded pretty good already. These pups definitely retain the classic Tele sound but with a lot more output and the volume is consistent on all six strings. I highly recommend these but if you buy them, get the four way switch too. The fourth switch position with the pups in series is killer. I would also recommend an .02 cap rather than .05 for tone control. The treble bleed cap is optional, and I didn't use one myself. One word of warning! Fender's wiring diagram shows the input jack grounded to the tone pot. It doesn't work right that way. Ground it to the volume pot with everything else for the best results. Then kick back and enjoy. If you're a Tele player, you gotta get a set of these.

Keep the sound, Spice it up =]

Comments about Fender Custom Shop Texas Special Tele Pickups:

these pickups are overall amazing, tey crunch up, fatten up, and spice up your tele tone. WITHOUT giving it too much sustain or grunge. in my opinion,Seymour duncans have a great sustain and bite.. but why even use a tele if thats the sound you want?these pickups are obviously made by fender so they still have that tele twang, but if you are looking for a slightly higher output, for some alternative rock and pop rock rather than country and blue.these are the pickups you want
