Previously I was using a pretty standard Pearl beater: felt on one side and rubber on the other. The felt was lackluster and the rubber was difficult to use because it would stick to the head. After some research and competitive pricing, I found this beater. It is fantastic. It has some serious heft and mass, which brings out a wide spectrum of low bass frequencies - some serious power. Since it's the same shape all the way around, you don't have to worry about alignment. And it strikes the head at its flattest part, which gives it some nice smack. Some say the weight of it makes it more difficult to play, but I disagree. Even if it does take more effort to play, the superior sound makes up for this. And you'll get stronger ankle muscles. Also, it's red and black, which I know makes no difference but it is still pretty cool. I will never not play with a wood beater again.

I Love wooden beaters and wanted buy another for my third pedal at home. I recommend the Gibraltar SC6232. Not this red one. This red beater is crazy heavy. I managed to cut mine down height wise and put the beater on another shaft. The I put the shaft in my drill, sanded it, and rounded it down to make it usable. I took off about 25% of the wood. It works nice now.

Heavy, but powerful

Comments about Gibraltar Wood Bass Drum Beater:

A great "rock" beater. Applicable to most rock situations, and possibly metal, if your legs have the power to keep them going at a speed!
The weight really is something else. I'd say these could easily put a big dent in a new head if you're not careful or you don't use any head protection! They give your bass drum a real nice slappy/clicky sound that goes great with fills between the toms and bass drum. When I switched from Iron Cobras to Demon Drives I found these a bit too heavy to work though, so they aren't perfect. I still keep them on the Cobras to use in more straightforward rock situations.
A small chunk came out of the top of one of the beaters, weirdly on the opposite side to where it was hitting the head. Strange, but didn't affect the sound in any way.
You get what you pay for, which is a slammin' hard and heavy beater that looks cool! The sound is pretty unique, no other beater I've used has come close to this power.

Awesome!

Comments about Gibraltar Wood Bass Drum Beater:

These things are exactly what I was looking for. They pretty much hit right in the middle of my 26" bass drum. Being that they have a long shaft and a wooden beater, that's just a hair heavier than the plastic DW, they absolutely KILL! They get a little getting used to, but once you get a hang of the throw and weight you'll be glad you did! Cause the way these things make your bass drum sound is slammin! And they're RED!

Comments about Gibraltar Wood Bass Drum Beater:

Adds the punch/attack that I was looking for, has a nice solid feel against the head. Due to the extra weight, it feels a little more sluggish than a felt beater. You can compensate by shortening the arc of the swing. Perfect drop-in upgrade for my Pearl Eliminator pedals.

Pretty nice beater. A little pricey, but I'm also a cheap person. Only con about it is that the red will rub off on the batter head. Not a big deal, especially if you have a patch that you can just peel off and trash anyways. Plus red and black looks nice.

I expected a beater of slightly lighter weight . . this one has a larger circumfrence around and requires a bit more effort to move it FAST . . as well as a LOT more control when playing softer passages. If you are looking for click and thud this baby is IT!

Comments about Gibraltar Wood Bass Drum Beater:

I bought 2 of these beaters 3 weeks ago. They are excellent beaters, a little heavier than the one I had before (pearl 4 sided without the two felt, they were removed). Give a lot more power to your playing. It looks quite good too. The red paint get off on the first play but it changes nothing at all.
