I have the Gibson 496R & 500T ceramic pickup's in my Gibson USA SG Standard. I also love the Gibson 490R & 498T Alnico pickup's too. It's basically ceramic magnet VS. Alnico magnet. Either way you can't go wrong, but I really like the sting with gain and bell like tones on clean settings with the 496R & 500T humbuckers. One caveat. You cannot install pickup cover on ceramic magnet pickups as the covers will cause horrific microphonic squealing. I did not know this until my luthier who is a "Gold" level authorized service technician explained why covers won't work on these pickups. I hope that helps.

Found at my flying V factor X, paired with a 496R... It i way too hot, and way too unfocused. Not good for dgent, rock, and tragic at clean or blues sounds. Immediatly replaced for a D'activator from Dimarzio.

The best functionality for this pickup is to ell it or to familiarize yourself with soldering!!!

Got these in my Gibson Les Paul Classic and my Gibson Explorer and my 1990 Gibson Flying V and got one coming for a Dr. LaRrY setneck Flying V build I'm doing now. These are the only stock pickup I'm totally in love with ! They got huge power, punch, great harmonics and super for pinch squeals ! Chords smash your face and roll back the volume and it sweetens up nice. All in all just a perfect pickup for ANY style. I shred metal and fingerpick with these without any trouble. For the price and ease of swap, JUST GET ONE ! Topped off with a 490R you'll have a well balanced all purpous guitar I gaurantee ! Gibson and Musicians Friend Keeps ME rockin' !!!

    Best Stock Pickup Ever

    By Boogie Man-Rts7a

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

THis pup came with a 496R in my 2008 Explorer, That combo allows me to do just about everything. I can sizzle, wail, roar, cry, weep, sing...you name it. I play through a Mesa Boogie Mark IV and these can handle all the gain the Boogie can muster and NOT squeel. I can stand right in front of my amps at high volumes in the lead channel with no squeel. So for those who have trashed these pickups, ignore them. They do not know how to use and amp nor how to play their guitars.

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I love a lot of pickup companies out there today (all American of course) but Gibson still makes the finest pickups available. This particular pickup, the 500T are the pickups you hear from The Scorpions "Rock You Like a Hurricane", so it kicks you in the teeth. This is not a pickup for playing clean melodies, or Rock-a-Billy, Buddy Holy type music. All of which is great music, but not for this pickup.

I prefer the best of both worlds; a Gibson PAF (PAF tones are a must for me) at the neck which is the 490R, Burstbucker 1, Burstbucker 2 or a 57' Classic for beautiful, clean melodies. However I always prefer the 500T at the bridge when I need serious firepower without losing its shape in the muddy hum-drum of ridiculously overpowered pickups.

I have used about every type of powerful pickup out there and nothing beats the 500T for leads. You can strike a harmonic, take your girlfriend out for dinner and a movie, come back and its still singing away. If you are playing an American made Gibson (any model) of course.

      Good bridge humbucker bite

      By EAganda

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

This is more expensive than some pickups, but you get what you pay for. The ceramic pickups will surely change the tone any guitar setup. This pickup is heavy music friendly, but it doesn't mean that you can't play this in other genres other than heavy rock or metal. With the pickup responsive to the guitarist picking and because it will produce different sounds depending on how it is wired, the 500T is an excellent pickup that has excellent value.
The 500T is a good pickup that has more bite than the stock BurstBucker that came with my Gibson Les Paul Standard. A lot can be achieved if installed with a Symour Duncan Triple Shot. The sound when wired in Series is definitely edgy. This is one of the best pickups I've tried, comparing it to a BurstBucker and two other Seymour Duncan models.
To be expected from Gibson and the price range of this pickup, quality is good. Wires are also good. Soldering the pickups gave me no problems. The tape wrapping the humbucker is cleanly done. There are no signs of imperfections, both its construction and its sound when playing.
From the edgy sound of the series wiring, you can get a softer tone by wiring it parallel. Splitting the coils to either side can produce a sharper than Fender tone. Split coils sound close to a bridge pickup of a Telecaster.

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

One can see that each individual has a different feeling about this pickup. Here again, I'm going to write how I feel about it, and what it does for my music. This pickup with a 496R is on my Gibson Les Paul Classic. This past summer I purchased a new Gibson LP Traditional Plus with the 57 style pickups. The 57's were not at all the sound I wanted, and I sent the guitar back. In my studio are many guitars of high value, including several Gibson Lps. With over 45 years of playing, the 500T with a 496R is the best combination on any LP I have. This includes The LPs that come with custom pickups. I don't agree with other reviewer on it not sounding the way he wants so he is putting it on a Fender. If you use this pickup on the right model guitar as one person stated. Plug it in a Marshall JVM410 or simular, it will peel the paint off the wall, while giving a warmer sound if needed.

      Great Well Rounded P/U

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

One of the things that most people dont think about or dont know, is that what kind of guitar you put a pickup in makes a difference. The same pickup will sound different in each guitar. Factors like what wood its made out of, the neck scale, and even the finish. I have played this p/u in Gibson explorers a lot and they have a very hot and sizzly sound to them. I put one in my Schecter C-1 Classic, and it sounded WAYYY different. Why? The schecter has a longer scale, and it has a poly finish instead of a nitro, and its a neck thru. The poly finish and the longer scale warmed out the 500t. It lost the harsh highs, but gained tremendous lows. But it did lose a little clarity. When you jump from a good USA made guitar (like an explorer) to a lower end overseas instrument there is always a difference. Thats why theres an extra cost. Over all the 500T, paired with a 498R i put in my C-1 Classic sound night and day BETTER than the stock Seymour Duncan JB/59 set that it came with. The tone is well defined, warm, and very hot with great harminics. Also versitile. I could play blues to metal with it. Just keep in mind what kind of guitar you have when selecting a pickup. Longer scale = Rounder, mellower tone. Poly finish = a little loss of clarity but big bottom end. Never assume that a pickup in one guitar will sound the same in yours. All in all the 500T is great for getting a rich, well rouded sound, with a lot of distortion and harmonic response. Hope that helps!!

Came stock in my Gibson Explorer and i just love it. So hot and full of gain. By the way the other guy that said he had the Gibson Explorer you should have expected that. The Explorer was and is produced as a rock and metal guitar. The Explorer is a Metal icon.

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

Overall, this pickup is a very versatile, and LOUD pickup. When it's clean, it gives a nice bright, almost glassy kind of a sound, and when it's dirty it gives you classic heavy metal bite, with fantastic harmonic response. Perfect for all styles.
A well-balanced pickup that gives you bite, punch, and clarity with great harmonic response.
This is a hot pickup, perfect if you love to play heavy metal as this pup will give you tons of bite and sounds utterly mean when playing through a dirty amp. Rolling back the volume, this pup really sounds brighty and glassy. It gives you face melting tone, but cleans up very nicely.
Keep in mind the guitar you have before buying any pickup, this pickup sounds awesome and bright through a shorter scale, nitro finish guitar like a Les Paul, but put it in a longer scale, poly finish guitar and it will sound different. But, that aside, this is a very versatile pickup that gives you nice and glassy clean sounds, and it works beautifully for classic heavy metal crunch, even when you drop tune, this pup will not lose its clarity.

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I gotta say, most stock pickups on Gibson models are muddy sounding pickups with the exception of the 498T/490R pickup configuration, and the beastly 500T/496R configuration. Now looking down in the comments I noticed SwampDonky's review on the pickup, which is largely misinformed and ignorant on this high output pickup.First of all, this guitar is high output, meaning in small little practice amps, it will distort the sound on the clean setting, not only this, but it picks up on subtle nuances of your playing because of its high output. And that's the downside of itThe upside is a brighter, more mean attack on solos and riffs, doesn't have the problem of sounding muddy like most Gibson pickups, it also gives the guitar a brighter sound on the clean setting, with beautiful highs and lowsIn response to SwampDonky's response, EMG's will not make the guitar feedback less, EMG are known for extremely high output active pickups, thus if not controlled will exacerbate the feedback problemIt all comes down to control, if you are yearning for a pickup with more dynamics and a high output pickup without going to the active pickup, this is for you and I'd also suggest the Evolution pickup.

Had this installed in my vintage 1980 Gibson Les Paul Firebrand, which was already an awesome sounding & playing guitar. It really improved the guitars sound! Right now I have a Demarzio in the neck position, but I think I am going to purchase the 496R to pair with the 500T. Thumbs up to Gibson on producing great sounding products!!

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

This is one my favorite pickups. It sounds powerful and will drive the front of a tube amp HARD! Not the best clean tone but you don't really get these for a chimey clean tone. Massive sustain and huge lowend. Cuts through like nobody's business!!

The high end can be a bit much at times so just adjust to taste. I prefer this to the EMG 81 because the 81 is just to generic IMO.

The review below that says "underpowered" is a joke. I have no desire to swap this out of my V and if I get a guitar with the 500T...I leave it!
Nails that early '90s death metal tone with authority!!

This pickup is one of the hottest things I have ever played. I have a Fender Stratocaster with this pickup and It sounds so amazing. (I had single coils before) I still have single coils in my rhythym and middle pickup positions and this pickup adds my perfect blend of a guitar for blues and Heavy Metal. If you're a metal fan (I think Metallica used this pickup of some of their early albums)

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

I added this pickup to a Les Paul Studio project guitar because I already had a Standard with PAF type pickups and I wanted something different. I tried a Duncan Custom and found it to have too much high end, then I tried a Duncan Distortion and found it was a one trick pickup and didn't work well with pedals. Then I tried the 500T and it was perfect, amazing sustain and clarity with a higher output. It responds well when you back off on the volume. I used 500k pots and it sounds great on 8 on the knob, and allows for a nice boost when you slide it back to 10. I am very pleased. I guess I shouldn't be shocked that a Gibson pickup was the best choice for a Gibson guitar. This pickup gets a bad rap on the gear page threads, but when it comes to tone you need to decide for yourself. It may not be for everyone, and I prefer PAF medium output if I had to choose one, but I like this pickup as a high output pickup. This pickup can do metal, rock, blues and cleans up nicely IMO.

Back in the early 90's a friend of mine put a 500T and a 496R in my '81 LP and i loved them then... recently (sept.'13) i got a PRS Custom 24 SE, nice guitar, but the tone just wasn't there... awe i know what i'll do... yup, 500T, 496R. Problem solved!

Really makes a nice combo, they clean up nicely with the volume knob and when you need the extra gain you got it. And guitarist with trems in the bridge don't let the lack of an F space model deter you... standard spacing works just fine.

Hope this helped in the GREAT TONE QUEST!!!

This is a great pickup. Very hot, high output. Do be aware that installing this pickup isn't going to turn your guitar into a Gibson Explorer. There's a reason they're [$]. But it should be vast improvement over any stock pickup. I play almost exclusively metal and put this pickup in a Schecter C-1 Artist. I should have done this earlier.

Comments about Gibson 500T Super Ceramic Bridge Humbucker Electric Guitar Pickup:

i've tried this pickup in a generic fender-looking guitar, and man this guitar sounded better then A LOT of guitars i've tried. i could get all the sounds out of the guitar effortlessly. harmonics, pinch harmonics, tap harmonics, warm and metal sounds.
