Great pickup, but....

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I am somewhat confused as to what Angus wants in a pickup. Why come out with a pickup, never use it on stage or in studio, and then have a custom seymour duncan pickup made for you instead? At any rate, I find the pickup itself to be good for many types of rock and metal if used with a good qualit amp. It does not seem to like most pedals and it performs questionably with solid state amps. I really wish I could say more for this pickup, but if Angus won't use his own pickup maybe its worth calling up seymour duncan custom and getting a replica of Ang's real pickup.

Great for covering AC DC tone

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

The Angus Young pickup is a heck of a lot of fun, but it?s really a one dimensional pickup. It was made to play AC DC music, pushed hard through a loud Marshall tube Amp. Combining this pickup with a loud Marshall tube Amp will nail the ACDC tone that is a mix between the old days of Bon Scott, and the current days of Brian Johnson. This is the tone that this thing was made for. How could it not be? It?s a Gibson Angus Young Signature Pickup. If you think it?s going to cover the broad tonal range of a Gibson 57 Classic Plus, you are simply crazy. It would be like getting a DiMarzio Super Distortion with the expectation that it is going to sound like a Gibson Burstbucker Pro. This pickup was wound to play that very unique tone associated with AC DC.With that said, if you play any AC DC music live, this lovely little pickup is a must in the bridge position of a humbucker equipped guitar. The going price is pretty high, but that is what you have to pay to get a quality pickup made by Gibson. If you want the best, you better be prepared to pay for the best. I?m not getting rid of mine because it?s so dang near close to a spot on tone of Angus Young?s. Just be prepared to have another guitar, equipped with different pickups, to cover any other music that is not AC DC.

If your into AC/DC

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

If your really into AC/DC then this isn't the pickup you want to get that good Angus feel. Don't get me wrong is an awesome pickup. But from what I've noticed, you get a much better AC/DC tone from the 57' Classic. Still a good pickup though, can get pretty good crunchy and clean tones.

Bright, Punchy, Awesome.

By JTbluesUK-kkxRJ

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I replaced the pickups in my Epiphone Sheraton II and put one of these in the bridge. AWESOME. I love the sounds this thing comes out with. It has a very clean sound at high gain which is perfect for solos, and allows you to use chords with some gain and not get muddy dissonance. The overall tone is BRIGHT- and it'll make your rhythms sharp and punchy, and your lead tones sing clear and throaty.Excellent value, if you're trying to get a rock sound that will cut down trees without getting muddy- GET THIS PICKUP.

Spectacular!

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

Like I said before. I really can't imaging putting any other humbucker in a bridge position again. If they made one that fit in a single coil slot, I'd put one in my strat too!
I threw this into my Epiphone faded G-400, plugged it into my Marshall JCM 2000, and what a difference. If you're looking for a big, beefy, and warm pickup, this is it. I can't imagine using any other bridge pickup ever again.
So far so good. I'll probably end up playing 60 or 70 shows this year with that pickup, and it hasn't let me down yet!
Well worth the price, but it looks like it's gone up quite a bit since I got mine. Doesn't matter though. Still a great pickup at any price.

So Good!

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

Ive been using this pick up for a few years now once on a Tele and now on a Les Paul and I will tell you this the Pickup, Angus or not is amazing. The pickup is a little on the hot side compared to classic 57s. The cleans are very sharp and precise, but it really shows off when you turn it up. The tone is so smooth at high volumes with tons of attack. I play it on a Bogner and a Marshall JCM 800. If your looking for tone through pedals keep looking this is a purists pickup. If you just want to crank it and rock, the Angus Young Signature Humbucker Salutes You!

Angus Young Signature humbucker

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

This is an easy review: This pickup is excellent! Disregarding the pickup's namesake, I love the tone of this humbucker. It screams but has a focused, well controlled edge thanks to the wax potting. It's also offered as a 4 conductor. I pulled out of my 2000 Les Paul Classic the 496 & 500 (both excellent pickups as well) and put the Angus in the bridge and a Burstbucker Pro in the neck. I also used Duncan triple shots to enable series/split/parallel switching on both pickups and a phase reverse on the neck so when both are on, they can be thrown out of phase with each other. Thanks in big part to the angus young bridge pickup, I have what I consider my ultimate LP.

Best ever

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I've only had this pickup in my guitar (Gibson Les Paul) For a minute or two and could already tell the difference in the sound. When you want it to be clean and smooth it can do that, and when you want it to be crunchy and mean it does that too!Gnarly pickup, would highly recommend it to all you serious guitar players.

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

Overall great product. I got one to replace my Seymour Duncan to give a my Gibson Flying V a more classic tone with the '57 humbucker. I was amazed at how clear and bright the tone of my guitar had changed. It is also gave it a lot more varieties of tone it has, without creating the buzzy distortion it originally had.A++

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

This is great for any player looking for vintage tone with a little extra thickness. It doesnt need a lot of gain to get a big feel out of it, but it can handle all the gain you throw at it. Wax coating is great to serve its purpose but not optimum if you're looking for cosmetic perfection.. it gets hard to clean.

For those about to Rock!!!

By Johnux

from Michigan, US

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I popped this little devil into my Epiphone SG '61 Custom, And!!! WHOA !!!! A whole new world opened before my eyes. I started playing the beginning of "Riff Raff" and then I started doing the duck walk and I grew a tail and wore school boy clothes,... ok Maybe not that but I felt like I should have been. I have had lots of experience with a lot of different brands on guitars, basses and pickups. From EMG to Epipohone, to Gibson, to Fender, to Mighty Mite, and much more. This is one of my favorite so far. Reminds me of the first Gibson SG I played, A 1962 SG Standard(really beat up but best tone ever). I would definitely recommend this for any style but mainly for Rockers

Great Pickup, Great looks!

By HotRodder

from Vancouver, BC

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I put this pickup in the bridge of my Epiphone SG along with a DiMarzio PAF Classic Bridge in the neck, and it sounds like a whole different guitar. You can hear this pickup pushing the amp harder. The treble rings and cuts but it dosen't lose any bass. When you set the height, there's a fine line from the ideal height before you start to get breakup. Absolutely love it.

Angus Young signature pickup

By Guitar Randy

from Wi

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

This pickup does indeed give you the angus tone when played thru a good quality tube amp. Marshall is best bet. I put this pickup in the bridge position of my Gibson SG Standard and play it thru my model 1987 marshall and its the Angus tone for sure. Only negative is the high price which I'm sure is because they put Angus name on it.

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I started out with an SG Standard that had the original 498T pickup in the bridge position, and the minute I played with the Angus Young pickup I was in love. It had a whole lot more treble and bit to it than the original pickup, and it actually sounded like angus. Especially through a Marshall, though I do not own the amp he uses, the 1959 SLP.

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

Well, It doesn't scream like ppl say...its pretty nice...but it doesn't sound like angus young or anyting near Ac/Dc, but it has a deep tone to its sound, which is close to rock from the 80's,90's,and somewat of todays sound....It sounds pretty good though.

Excellent Quality...

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

What people don't understand these days, is that when Seymour and DiMarzio first started making replacement pickups, it was still the "Rock" era. Everything was in reference to how it would sound plugged into an original Marshall non-master volume type of amp that had to be cranked to get some distortion. Angus still adheres to that formula. Gibson eventually got into the replacement pickup business. Putting this Angus pickup into a basswood Korean guitar and then plugging it into a Line 6 amp is not going to make much difference. Bear in mind that this Angus pickup is a relatively late development in Angus' career. Most of his work was done using bone stock pickups that were already in the guitar.

Hail, Hail Rock'n'Roll!

By Warren-cXxbJ

from Northen California

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I put this (my Angus Young) pickup in a hand built instrument that a friend and I made. Unbelievable sounding - very "throaty" - in the best sense of the word. The clarity is what people talk about after the playing is done. While I love Angus Young's playing - it's my own sound that I'm always after - I was suprised how happy I've been with this "on-a-whim" purchase.

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

Popped this baby into my SG...along with a '57 classic at the neck, plugged into a 100 watt tube Marshall head, started picking out the intro to "Hell's Bell's" and a great big smile came over my face! Doesn't sound the same throught my ss Roland practice amp, (does anything?), but give it a nice home and lot's of quality power backing it up and that signature Angus sound can be yours.

wow

By Wade Selman

from St. George, Ut

Comments about Gibson Angus Young Signature Humbucker:

I dropped this pickup in the bridge position of my Gibson sg and wow. I play it through a marshall avt 100 combo amp. Wish I had a plexi to play it through. If you want to drop out the middle and play grab you by the throat bass, this is the one. It is a close as your going to get to Angus's sound without becoming a reincarnation. It made my sg sound bigger, with a lot more sustain. Every ear is different and if yours is dialed into the highs and lows get one you won't regret it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to customize their axe without spending a small fortune on a custom guitar.
