I had a 1978 Gibson RD Artist in 1980 when I first saw a TP-6 and was HOOKED from then ! Since, I've installed them on every Gibson I've owned because I LOVE them & I'm just so used to it being there. I have a 1990 "V" I ordered new,a 2006 L.P. Custom I got new, a 2001 L.P. Studio I got 2nd hand, a 2006 Explorer, a Custom Made Dr. LaRrY bass/guitar doubleneck I built and now I'm modding a Schaller into a fine tuning ! The Gibson TP-6 will go on ALL my future Gibsons too and if you ever have the coin to get one, JUST DO IT ! It's funtional art to me plus it makes your guitar look awsome I think. Didn't notice any change in my tone even on my new L.P. Custom so feel free to get one for any guitar it will fit on. NOTE: only on 1 of my guitars I had to grind a little off the bottom so the studs would slide in. Still not sure why but it's STILL on the guitar so no biggie ! I'm sold on them and every Gibson I've let go had one on it and the NEW owners were very pleased it was there ! Kinda pricey for what it is but I feel worth every penny seeing how many times I reach over to give my little fine tuning touches. NICE UPGRADE ! MUSICIANS FRIEND KEEPS AMERICA ROCKIN' !!!

buy it, best investment. come pay day i'm gonna buy a couple more.
not much for features, it's just a stop tail with a little lever with a hook on it and a fine tuner post to let the lever up or down. works great, string tension keeps everything from slipping.
cosmetically it's not super high quality CNC machining, but it functions 100%
in my opinion this is the best money you can spend for a guitar. I have a music degree and have spent every year of my life from 1st grade through college in choir, so i know about how chords need to be tuned to lock in, in order to get your overtones and resonances to work right. I'm a big fan of the earvana nut for this same reason. What this bridge allows you to do is pull the string from the bridge end with microscopic adjustments (like a couple cents!) without having to worry about the STUPID NUT GRABBING THE STRING THEN LETTING IT SLIP WHEN YOU PLAY TWO NOTES. Sorry but that drives me absolutely bonkers. I bought an ESP Eclipse with a bone nut, and sold it two days later for that very reason. Now two years later, I slapped this bridge on a new ESP Viper with the same bone nut and it completely solves the problem. 100% in tune, and it actually STAYS IN TUNE. buy it, you won't regret it.

Get in perfect tune and add sustain. This is replacing all of my tail pieces. Makes string changing a breeze. Add locking tuners and change your strings in less than 5 minutes. Make sure your strings (on SG) don't touch the bridge by raising the posts. You will be amazed by the clarity and sustain. Twice as much mass/density as stock tailpieces.

Drop in replacement on my 2000 vintage Les Paul Classic. Heavier than the original tail piece. Fine tuners are simple and is very intuitive to use.

              Out of obscurity

              By Aaron-4M-5X

from MON (middle of nowhere), PA

              Comments about Gibson Tailpiece TP-6:

It boggles the mind that this device is so obscure. Perhaps it is just a "price point" issue, but if you spend above $1000 on a guitar with the Gibson name on it, the TP-6 ought to be standard equipment (being one of their best inventions!). It just makes everything easier for the guitarist. When you jump around like Angus Young, and bend strings from E to A, they are going to stretch and drop, no matter what, over the course of a gig. Having this fine-tuner makes life soooo much easier. On my "stock" Flying V, this was the best upgrade that could have been made. No redrilling -- just wind in the gold nuts to the existing screw base, slide it on, and quit reaching. I would suggest painting gloss black (or gold) the nuts used to tune it. The one I bought seemed to be "raw metal" which is already subjecting them to signs of rust from finger sweat. Being grooved (for easy finger grip) will compound the problem, as cleaning them will be a chore and the sweat will accumulate. At minimum, give them a shot of WD-40 to seal them a bit.

Why isn't this on every guitar?

              By 69LesPaulCustom

              from San Jose

              Comments about Gibson Tailpiece TP-6:

I've owned one of these on my LP since they first came out (late 70's? early 80's? can't recall). With over 30 years of hard use, it still looks great and performs perfectly. The ability to make small tuning adjustments with a quick shift of your right hand is a wonderful feature and it has always made me wonder why you don't see more guitars with this feature.

              Better than reaching

              By Mano

              from Maui

              Comments about Gibson Tailpiece TP-6:

This device allows you to tune on the fly without having to reach across the fretboard with your right hand while fretting a chord like many of us have done over the years. Just make sure that when you change strings, the saddle is positioned at "detente". You'll have to figure that out for yourself based on your own personal tendencies. There is no actual detente position. My 1980 Gibson Les Paul Artisan came with this thing from the factory. I guess it was a stock item at one time. It's not really really necessary but nice to have. If you find yourself having to use it too often, you have more pressing issues to worry about.

              I Want One

              By FlyingVFTW

              Comments about Gibson Tailpiece TP-6:

This tailpiece hasn't had a bad review anywhere I've seen, and I definitely want one for my flying v. However, it's much cheaper to buy directly from Gibson. I'm definitely going to buy one of these, but I doubt it will be from here.
