I have some very expensive custom built guitars; I'm not going to display then on anything less than THE BEST stand. I've tried many brands; this is all I buy now.
I have several models of Hercules guitar stands for my collection. No others can compare for safety, ease of use, dependability - best value for your stand money. Of all the stands, this 402B is still my fave because of its portability. So compact; can go anywhere, inside most anything. And they work great - holds the guitar safely & balanced. I have several of this model & am ordering a couple more just because I'm taking more guitars to a gig now. These are going inside my car trunk with the spare tire - they're that compact.
They work & pack well. THE top quality in a guitar stand.
Frankly, I'd pay twice as much for a Hercules stand. I've given all my other stands away & replaced with Hercules.

I would buy it again (and really like it) if the above issues were resolved.
I was surprised that this had so many great reviews. I have two major problems with it. These coupld be resolved in a new stand should hercules choose to revise the design.

1.The foam pad at the top extands behind the vertical support. If you have a strap on your guitar or bass it will usually dangle behind that foam pad. When you lift your guitar, the strap catches on the foam pad and lifts up the entire stand! It happens to me about 90% of the time. I find it annoying.

2. The arms that hold the guitar are padded - thats good. But there are two pins on the arms that are way too short - I cant ever tell if the guitar is seated properly in the arms. I am usually afraid that the guitar is going to slide back into the unpadded area.

If you dont need the portability - definitely go for something more - even the cheapo A Frames are better than this.

Excellent and Versatile Stand

By mwsloan

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

I liked the first one I got so much that I purchased a second. These stands are well-built and very stable. I use them for my electric guitar, banjo and mandolin and have never had an instrument fall. Compact when folded (but, sometimes hard to fold). These are pricey, but worth the extra cost.

Great little stand

By Anonymous

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

I've been playing guitar for 42 years; have had my share of stands... This is my favorite of them all. Cons: hard to close when new; the top cushion can come off when you've (ab)used it for a few years; and yes you CAN knock it over if you try hard enough. Pros: extremely sturdy build; small; you can throw yer guitar in on a dark stage...I've got six of these and am about to buy some more.

VERY,VERY nice!!

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

Buy the the stand and be happier.
It works very well for electric guitars. Doesn't hold acoustics obviously but all of my electrics are held perfectly. It also surprised me how stable it was. Of course if ya drop kick your guitar it's gonna fall. It is very compact when folded up. It fits in my guitar cases and that's very handy.
Made of metal and feels very sturdy.
24 bucks for a very good stand.

Hercules Mini Stand

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

Nice, solid stand for most guitars. Not so great for offset solid body guitars. My Jaguar wants to tip to the left. So I moved the backrest one bolt to the left and bolted the bottom right rest under the tripod leg. Works great now.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

If you play bass this stand is not for you. I even asked MF if this stand is capable of holding a bass guitar and there answer was "yes". WRONG....It simply will not hold a bass. At least not a Fender Jazz. However for guitar it does work. This will be returned tomorrow.

I don't know what the guy a few reviews down was doing with it but this stand held my jazz bass perfectly. The parts are very high-quality and are all metal. All in all a great stand for the price

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

Very well made and folds nicely. A little larger that cheaper stands but it is worth it as it is much sturdier. I'm glad I bought it and feel safe using it. I felt it was worth the extra bucks.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

While preparing to order number 3 hercules mini stand, had to read reviews. I'm ordering the third one for my son who plays bass, the reason is so I can get mine back. The day I received my second stand he laid claim to it, so guess what he is getting for his birthday. His bass is a long neck Ibanez and it has never been a problem for this stand. Great stand great price great quality.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

Easy to use, folds up nice & small. It says 'guitar stand' but I use it for my 5-string basses, still works great, except the little holder on the right side will hit directly on one of the knobs near the bottom of the guitar. Not a huge deal, but a noteable minor inconvenience.

With that said, it is extremely portable and I would get another for that reason alone.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

The cable on my Ibanez is on the front of the body, so I can have the guitar plugged in and on the stand with no issues. However, if your cable plugs in on the side of guitar rather than the face, the cable will be in the way when placed on the stand. It's a real small footprint which is great for the living room and is super stable (I just tried to push the guitar over as I'm typing this and I couldn't).

It is true that a Jazz bass will not be dead center on this stand, but the stand will hold it just fine. I have used it on several gigs with my Fender Jazz bass and the stand works great and holds the bass with no problems whatsoever. I own 2 of these stands now.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

This is a great little stand. Well built, good price, overall high quality. I would not hesitate to use this stand with my Fender Jazz and P-basses, and I plan to do so. The stand is not a perfect fit for the Jazz model due to the offset body shape of the Jazz, but the bass does fit fine with a slight off-center alignment. The input jack of the P-bass sits somewhat close to the holding arm of the stand. But none of these issues truly interferes with the stand's ability to hold the basses safely. I will be taking 1 or 2 of these compact little gadgets to me for every gig that I go to. And I'm leaving my older bulkier stand at home!

If you play gigs that involve drunk audience members, clumsy sound techs or other hazards on stage, then I might not recommend this stand for that situation. For that, I would still want a holding arm for the neck.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

I needed a very portable stand for my bass. Also needed to be sturdy (the previous portable was wobbly and caused scratches). GS402 to the rescue!
Fits nicely in my backpack, and super stable. The only thing I would like better is a dual-purpose stand that could hold either acoustic guitar or electric.
Though it was more than I wanted to pay, considering the price of the instrument it cradles it's worth it.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

This is up to Hercule's top notch quality and engineering. They are the best. That is why I am puzzled by Hercules. The top neophreme cushion is a half circle. Only a small part of the center touches the guitar. Why? It is round you know. The stand is low and the top of the neck is high. Bump the top of the neck, it will slide and tip. Not easy but it will, especially if you do not make a lot of extra effort to get the body out against the bottom cushions. Easy to do if dark, in a hurry or just not paying 101% attention. It only takes once. Come on Hercules, you got a real winner here. Exchange that top cushion for a flat one! Such a easy fix at no cost. As it stands, not with my guitar.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

I have owned one for years, and use it both at rehearsal's and on stage during gigs. Its portable so you can carry it in your gear bag, though its on the heavy side, compared to other portable guitar stands. One the up side (and its a BIG upside), its sturdy, hard to knock over and takes either an electric guitar or a bass. My bandmates are in constant envy! I love the stability of this stand and I wtrust my very good axes to it.

Comments about Hercules Stands GS402B Mini Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar Stand:

Hercules stands are tough, well constructed, and tuck away easily. What makes this little guy great is the small footprint (too much gear, too little space...). One word of caution though: if you're a clutz this stand is not for you. If you give your guitar or the stand a good enough bump, the guitar will take a dive. Just a heads up.
