OVERVIEW

The Korg CA-40 Electronic Chromatic Tuner has wide range that covers A0 (27.50 Hz) - C8 (4186.01 Hz), you can tune a variety of instruments with the Korg CA-40, including wind, string, and keyboard instruments. The pitch and range are detected quickly and accurately. You can use the built-in high-sensitivity microphone to detect the pitch of an acoustic instrument without the need for any other equipment. Alternatively, you can use the separately sold CM-100 contact microphone to send the vibration of the instrument directly to the tuner, so that you can tune accurately without worrying about other sounds in the environment. An output jack (bypass) has been added to this digital tuner, making it easy to check the tuning even while you perform.

Conveniently thin and compact The pocket-sized CA-40 features a refined design with a stand on the back that lets you place this digital tuner on any surface.

Large, high-precision LCD meter
The CA-40's display has been enlarged for even clearer visibility. In addition to providing both the accuracy of an LCD and the easy viewing of a needle-style meter, red and green LEDs are also provided to indicate pitch deviations, making tuning smooth and easy.

Sound Out function
In addition to letting you tune visually using the meter, this digital tuner provides a Sound Out function that plays a reference tone through the internal speaker, allowing you to tune by ear. You can adjust the reference tone in semitone steps over a range of C4 through C5 (one octave) to accommodate a variety of instruments. Since the reference tone you specify is remembered, it's easy to sound it again whenever you need to.

Adjustable Calibration
The Calibration function of this hand held tuner lets you adjust the pitch in 1 Hz steps over a range of 410 - 480 Hz in order to accommodate a variety of concert pitches, giving you the flexibility to tune accurately to any song or key. There's also a memory backup function that preserves the Calibration setting and Sound Out settings even when you turn off the power.

Auto Power Off function
The power of this digital tuner will turn off automatically if the unit is left powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.

Approximately 85 hours of continuous use
The CA-40 is designed for long battery life, and allows approximately 85 hours of continuous use (continuous A4 input, Meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).

* Even if a sound is within the detectable pitch range, detection may be unsuccessful for instrumental sounds that contain a large number of overtones or decay rapidly.

** The calibration setting and the Sound Out reference pitch are remembered even when you turn off the power. However, when you replace the batteries, these settings will be initialized to the default values; the calibration will return to 440 Hz, and the Sound Out reference pitch will return to A.

Korg digital tuners and metronomes purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have a three year warranty.

Superior features include a large, easy-to-read, LCD needle-style display.

This tuner does was it's supposed to do, and has never given me any problems. Tuning accuracy is very good, through either the 1/4" jack or the built-in mic. After a tune-up with this guy I'm always precisely in tune. There are no fancy features, but it does what it does well. It's also small, easy-to-read (even in the dark), and very easy to understand. I've used it daily, and still haven't had to replace the batteries.

The price is reasonable, and this tuner does what it's designed to: tune your instrument. I recommend it; it's a good buy for the price.

Tuned my harpsichord with accuracy in record time. Had a KORG chromatic tuner since 1st year teaching in my band room in 1972 and this one replaced it in October 2015. It's smaller. Less batteries. Amazingly easy to use.

Comments about Korg CA-40 Electronic Chromatic Tuner:

This isn't the first Korg tuner I've owned. I have another I purchased over 20 years ago. Still works fine. The new one is slightly smaller and actually just a little less sensitive to harmonics and overtones, so the indicator doesn't jump as much. That's a good thing. I have several tuners, but when I want accuracy, I always reach for my Korg. I will say it's not the tuner for performance on stage. It must be fairly close to read the indicator and is too delicate to set where it could be knocked down or stepped on. Since I'm picky about accuracy I usually keep it in my pocket.
I've only had it a little over a week, but it looks promising.

Comments about Korg CA-40 Electronic Chromatic Tuner:

For being a generic-looking inexpensive tuner, the Korg CA-40 is great. It does exactly what I need it to do, which is tune any electric instrument accurately. It goes to (1 cent I believe) which is accurate enough for recording, but not painstakingly pin-pointed so as to make tuning a 30 minute ordeal. I get recording ready tunings in about 40 seconds on a regular 6 string guitar.

As a plus, I know many larger studios use this as standard tuning gear.
