Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

I needed another rackmount tuner with strobe capability for the studio; we were using the one in my guitar rack and it was getting old swapping out cables everytime I wanted to actually play my guitar.

SO, I bought one of these babies. I got it last night - and I am planning on ordering another. First, my other rackmount tuner is also a Korg - just a later model. This Pitchblack is about 1/3 of the size, which is great for angled racks where you can run into space problems. It seems like it's an inch deep, but the quality is incredible. It has 2 inputs, which I do use (one for direct in, one for my wireless system). I noticed right away that there was no input selector button - so I didn't understand. I tested this - I plugged both inputs in, and plugged into #1. It picked up my guitar and started tuning it right away - with great accuracy, I love the strobe on this. Then I plugged a cable in #1 and put my guitar in #2 to see how it would work. It picked up my guitar in #2 as well, so there's some sort of "smart switching" in this. I dig it. Excellent quality, very easy to see because of it's V shaped meter, lightweight, and super accurate.

If you're looking for something reasonably priced to do guitar setups with or just to get that perfect tune on stage - this is the way to go. Super sleek, flat face, and great lighting. I will be ordering at least 1 more of these (and giving away my old strobe!!!)

Good lucks, not so great functionality

      • Plastic Build
      • Power Supply Design

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

Really cool looking tuner with big display that is easy to see across a stage. Has some major downsides though, one of whic is that its very cheap plastic. It kind of bows out slightly in the rack, and the rack ears are just snap on plastic tabs. Should hold up fine in a protected rack, but just doesn't have a real confidence inspiring build, if you know what I mean ?

Also the accuracy is just "okay", basically its like any old cheap pedalboard tuner, but in a rack. Fair price for the price I guess, but not the best tuner on the market.

Main issue for me though is the stupid power supply design. The plug in part of the adapter is about 2+ rack spaces tall. I have my Furman above my processor and had to move it to the top of the rack so I could have the power supply adapter positioned downward without hitting the gear below it, if that makes sense? Really dumb design for a rack item Korg!

They should of put a "line lump" in there at the very least, so then you'd have a normal plug, or maybe made it at a right angle. Either way, it would of worked better in a rack.

AC adapters are always a problem with rack power conditioners, but you'd think gear designed specifically for a rackmount would address this.
My L6 Relay for example sticks out sidways, so it easily goes into 1 rack space.

Finally, its really dumb you have to hit the power button to turn it on every time. All my other gear I leave "on" and with one switch on the Furman it boots up. This unit needs to have the power hit each and every time, even if you left it powered up when you turned off your main power supply.

Just all and all falls a bit short of what I would expet in a pro rack tuner

        Disappointment

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

For the money, its'a good tuner, very precise and fast. BUT, as a guitar player, I have to put it in front of my preamp (VooduValve) to use the feature of silent tuning. In that position, it changes slightly the tone of my guitar, not bad but different, but it hisses like Godzilla, using high gain (I play metal, what can I do...). I compared its "buffered" bypass with the one of a Corona chorus, and the noise was a lot lower. Also built a simple j-fet buffer myself, and the noise was almost zero. I can only say that the circuitry Korg used in its buffer is lame, to say the least. So beware guitar players, test the thing so you won't be disappointed like me. If you're a bass player, however, everything's gonna be all right.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

This tuner seems to work well, but is cheaply made. All plastic. The rack ears are thin, plastic snap-in parts. The input jacks are plastic. It weighs only a few ounces. I don't expect it to last very long. The only real reason to buy this is if you absolutely need a rack-mounted tuner and cannot afford the Peterson.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

I recently decided to move away from multi-fx processors (G-System) and as a result I became in need of a stand-alone tuner. And due to the way I prefer to have my pedalboard configured, I decided to go with a rackmounted tuner as opposed to a pedal. Shopping around, I noticed there aren't a whole lotta rackmount choices... this Korg tuner is IMO the best bang for buck.

My amp is rackmounted, and atm I have the amp's line-out connected to the Korg's rear input jack (Input #2, which is designed for a line level signal)... and it works perfectly. Nice and tidy too, with just a 12" patch cable, and the tuner is not in my signal path.

I also tested it in front of the amp, listening for any possible tone loss or coloration, and I did not perceive any difference.

I find the tuner to be very accurate, and for live shows I use the basic mode 1 (partly because I don't want a crazy strobe light show coming from my gear haha) but for use at home if I'm setting intonation or whatnot I'll use the strobe modes #2 or #3 for a higher level of accuracy. But mode #1 is PLENTY accurate enough for live work.

I've seen some complaints online about the build quality (it's all plastic) but this is a non-issue for me. IMO it does not need to be made of metal because it is protected by the rack enclosure. It's fine.

Design-wise, if I had to think of a complaint, I think it would be nice to have an additional "Input #1" on the rear, which if used would deactivate the front input, this would make it more flexible with how you can configure your connections, but it's not a big deal.

All in all, I am very pleased.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack PRO Rackmount Tuner:

I've been searching and searching trying to find this tuner available and everywhere you turn its on backorder or out of stock. I was lucky enough to find one on ebay last week and it came in 3 business days. I paid ten extra for shipping but hey it was worth it. So far this tuner fits perfectly for what it was meant to do. Ive read alot of people complain about it being plastic, but if you think about it, the purpose of a rack is to protect your gear. So it shouldnt matter if its placstic or not, as long as your not choke-slamming your rack, it'll hold up just fine. The display is super bright and visible. I like the display options, vary for individual's taste. It recognizes quick, is very accurate. I give it a 5 out of 5. The blue lights look great coming from the all black unit. No complaints on this. I run my guitar through input, then output, then to my amp. I have a footswitch hooked up to mute it for silent tuning. Functions perfect, no loss in tone or anything. Don't listen to the elitests that call themselves tone purists. Just give it a try and find out what you lik efor yourself. Im very pleased with this product and I think you will be too if you can get your hands on one.
