OVERVIEW

Easily and inexpensively connect your instrument directly to your computer.

This LightSnake 1/4" to USB instrument cable is basically a "sound card on a cable" that lets you record audio from your guitar or other instrument directly onto your computer. The LightSnake offers true plug-n-play operation: simply connect the 1/4" mono plug of the 10 ft LightSnake cable to your instrument and then connect the USB end to one of your computer's USB ports. No additional drivers are needed for Win 98 SE/Win ME/Win 2000/Win XP/Win Vista, or Mac OS9/OS X.

An embedded 16-bit analog-to-digital converter with audio signal boost ensures extremely low audio loss and a 48kHz sampling rate provides you with high audio quality while recording. The HSDL (Host Side Data Loss) Noise Reduction function prevents any unwanted noise when converting the audio signal to digital format and saving to your computer. SoundTech's patented "Live when Lit" cable ends glow when connected properly and flash when sound is being transmitted.

The 10' LightSnake includes a DVD with 30-day trial versions of all of Sony Media Software titles, including Sound Forge, Acid, Vegas, etc. This addition makes the cable a complete solution right out of the box. Mac users can use GarageBand or any other Mac-compatible recording software.

First don't be discouraged by some of the negative comments here. People need to learn how to set up their hardware. I've been using the Lightsnake for several months now and I am completely satisfied with this purchase. I use it with Sonar, Cubase, Guitar Tracks pro, Amplitube, Revalver, Guitar Rig 3 ect. ect. It is far quieter than my on board sound card, and is far more convenient. Get ASIO4ALL and set it up right. You wont be sorry!

I'm an amateur musician with the most basic of recording setups and i still found myself frustrated with this cord. It is easy to set up with a Macbook Pro and GarageBand and gets you instant plug-and-play capability. There is, however a constant background white noise. When recording with an acoustic electric, it's mostly manageable with proper EQ, but it becomes cripplingly noticeable when trying to record an electric track with any amount of distortion. Some of that may be attributed to hot EMG pickups, but there is still a lot of background static. After an extended period of playing, the sound will start to delay to the point where there will be a large, noticeable gap between the input and the output, which can really mess with your timing. This problem is largely fixed by just unplugging and then re-inserting the cord, but that's still a bit aggravating.

Great Product. Must read the instructions

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

This is a great product. My XP installed in with no problem. You MUST read the instructions though. Don't just assume it's going to work right away. I made that mistake at first then I realized I had to follow the manual to get it to work properly. The Glowing lights are really cool. You can see you music being played from the data transfer. Also, USE the spitter. It cancels the lantency. Plug the USB port into your computer then plug the splitter into your amp. That's the best combination. Best $40 I ever spent!!

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

The device does not work with a great many Macs, despite claims to the contrary. The manufacturer support is poor and the distributor forum posts copy/paste from the alleged manual. The web is full of user complaints about the cable not being seen by OS X, Windows and Linux. None of the posted questions have been resolved.Run, do not walk, away from this junk

Great Product for a Great Price

By JonnyHawes

from Bluefield, WV

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

I use this on my Macbook Pro to connect my Guitars/Basses GarageBand and Logic Pro. Have never had any troubles with it at all. I looked around and other USB interfaces to your computer will cost you quite a bit more. This is an excellent product. The only thin I do not care much for is the green LED lights that are on the entire time you are using it. I found them to be annoying after a while. Other than that, not a single complaint.

Metallica quality with guitar rig 4

By MetalHead-.fRXr

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

This cord is better than every other cord out there. It is EXTREMELY CLEAR. And I get tones like Sad But True - Metallica or acoustic sounds like Fade To Black - Metallica with guitar rig 4. I can say I cant fully get the sound I want with it but it is defiantly stage quality

It's a nice Idea but it's not ready for the real world yet.. No Driver support. Windows can't find it and Linux can't find it. I am still waiting for the support Email they said their going to send. It just sits in stand by mode, Spend a few more $$ and get something that works.

This cable isn't all its cracked up to be. I can get better quality from the generic pc mic that came with my laptop! Sound quality is muddy with little/no versatility. Don't buy!!

pretty nifty device

By Matt Coggins

from Millington, MI

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

One thing that surprised me was that it plugs right into the guitar, and you dont need to run it through your amp or anything so that's really nice. then I recorded a couple of riffs, and we really impressed with the clarity of the sound. the only downside is the lack of distortion, and my guitar doesn't sound that great when its naked.HOWEVER I would highly recommend this for someone recording with a acoustic-electric, because you'll get a clean and a bright sound. I do believe it is a bit pricey.

Not My Favorite

By Adam-kN-2U

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

Just got this thing a couple of days ago for a hobby recording at home, and fought with it for several hours before I could get a usable recording. I couldn't get it to work at all on my Windows Vista laptop, but I eventually got a clean-sounding track on my XP desktop...so maybe it's an unadvertised operating system incompatibility; I don't know.It works, but only if you're willing to take quite a bit of time out of your recording schedule to mess with configuration.

Call the cops, I got robbed

By Anonymous

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

This thing absolutely sucks. For the price I did not expect much, and despite my exceedingly low expectations I was still disappointed. I plug it in, my computer does not recognize it. The imput jack for my actual cable does not work, and worst of all, it does this stupid looking green "glowey" thing. The software does not automatically install and I now have $40 less, and 45 minutes of my life I cannot get back. Great. Dont be a fool like I was, its too good to be true.

By fenderguy2112

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

I bought this to use with Garage Band on my Mac, I had alot of problems, the signal started to fade out after several minutes of use, after restarting the snake again things would return to normal then static would slowly start creeping into the sound of the guitar, it's cheap, it worked for about a week, I guess I got my money out of it, thanks china for a great product!!!! Im gonna spend a little more next time and buy something of quality, that has good reviews overall

Waste of $$$

By please don't be dumb like me

from Port Orchard, WA

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

For 40 bucks I expected a noisier than desired (but functional) solution to my problem of getting my guitar routed into my G4 ibook. This is what I got...First I plugged the cable into my guitar. Then I plugged into my usb port. The funky led's in the cable ends lit up. (yes they actually do serve a purpose.) At this point, I am still pleased.Turn on Garage Band, create a new track and VOILA! Those pretty lights not only start blinking when data is moving across the cable (to tell you that the cable itself is working properly if you need to debug something in your chain): But-- and here is the best part YOU CAN HEAR THE LED'S SWITCHING ON AND OFF; ON AND OFF; ON AND OFF. Forever.I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER SOUNDTECH PRODUCT AGAIN.

Mixed bag

By Bleeding Icon

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

I didn't have any problems installing and recording with the LightSnake, but I found that the sound would drop in and out without reason. So 4/5 times I tried to record, it wouldn't pick anything up, and then magically it would work. When it did work, it sounded great and worked better than anything I've tried. But it just got too frustrating, and for the $ I paid, just not worth it.

Great with mac

By Cooper-ttWZ2

from Indiana

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

I think it?s a great product. I got mine through a goodwill store. When I fist got it I used it on my pc. With acid pro I could record the guitar but couldn?t hear anything while I played during the recording session. I had to plug up to an outside amp. Then I got a Mac. Wow, now I can hear myself play while I record even during multi tracks. It?s really cool. Another guy said something about hearing a sound while the led lights were flashing. I think he had something defective. Mine was fine. I use garage band with mine. It?s a cheep way to record with great quality. I give it 2 thumbs up. I would pay to buy one new. Now knowing what I have. Sound quality is awesome.Cooper

Terrible

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

I thought this would be a great way to record songs quickly into GarageBand, but I was wrong. FIrst of all, the thing doesn't fit well in my guitar, and it makes all kinds of static as if there's a loose connection. As for the sound quality, you might as well just use your iSight microphone. There's a horrendous hissing noise, and it's really hard to get a good recording level as the dynamics are garbage. I should have just bought an adapter from Radio Shack. Save your money, people. It's not worth it.

RIP OFF!

By Kevin Niemeyer

from Texas

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

I bought this because I wanted a better quality recording than I got with my laptop's internal sound card. It works great with Guitar Rig, but I only use that to practice with. I get terrible noise when I try to record with Cubase, and Sonar won't even recognize it. Even when I do record in Cubase, I try to play it back, and 9 times out of 10 I can hear what I've recorded. For something that is plug and play, this required about 10 hours of frustration and hair pulling before I finally gave up and just used it with Guitar Rig. Big waste of money.

Not great for electric acoustic

By Shay-Urka9

from Kenosha, WI

Comments about LightSnake Guitar/Keyboard USB 10ft Cable:

Found it easy to use but had a lot of distortion when used with electric acoustic. Piano worked well, but you have to plug into an amp to hear yourself playing because the headphones either allow you to hear the piano or the tracks you are trying to play over, not both. I used it with Magic Music Maker and it's kind of a hassle but better than having to buy preamps and all that other stuff. It is truly a plug and play device.
