I have known all along that this case is an upgrade from the thermoplastic case supplied with Martin standard series guitars. But I was too lazy/cheap to order it, seeing as the one that came with my D-28 was serving the purpose. Horror stories abound, from friends that have had their precious Martins scarred and bit, when the standard "bear-trap" case (you know the one, with a metal edge surrounding it top and bottom) decided to suddenly close on their guitar. Well, forewarned is forearmed, so I figured that this would never happen to me, because I am careful! Just the other day at a crowded music jam, I was putting my prized D-28 away, and in a heartbeat I now have a hideous deep scratch across my guitar. No amount of crying or polishing would make it go away. So when I got home, I ordered new premium cases for my Martins. Sure, my guitars are bound to get more unavoidable dings and marks from using and enjoying them, but they are much happier now in their new Geib-style cases. These cases are much more rugged than the thermoplastic ones, and no where near as slippery. The interior fit is snug, and they have better quality latches. They are heavier, and the interior storage compartment is slightly more compact. This is a top quality case, and a premium guitar deserves protection. You won't be sorry.

Very disappointed with interior of case. Expected something more plush for the price. Short velour padding, which seems like it was shimmed in as an afterthought. Strong sharp incense odor that doesn't go away, even after left open for two weeks. Black covering on outer shell already pealing at seams. Otherwise solid. Like padded handle and ample interior storage area. Brass hardware is cool and seems solid. But really: Meh!

Comments about Martin 12C545EC Vintage Dreadnought Guitar Case:

I have a Martin D-45 and was disappointed in the plastic case the guitar came in. The only logical thing was to get the best case for the best guitar. This is the right case for that guitar.

Comments about Martin 12C545EC Vintage Dreadnought Guitar Case:

Wow this case is such an upgrade. I have a 2000 Martin D28 which came with a hard shell case that had 3 latches (never had a tight close). The glue started seeping out from under the felt so it was time for an upgrade. This thing is solid. My D28 fits snugly and perfectly. I love the six latches it has and their placement. It closes firmly and has a great seal so the humidity stays at the right level. I love how plush it is on the inside and roomy top to bottom.

Comments about Martin 12C545EC Vintage Dreadnought Guitar Case:

Very nice, sturdy case. Snug but excellent fit for my second-hand Martin HD-28V, which seems like a bigger guitar than the D-18. On the outside the case is actually smaller than a Martin thermo-plastic one. Pricey, but worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime guitar.

I purchased this case as a replacement for the case that came with my Martin SPD-16R. The new case fits the guitar very well (much better than the origional) and the quality is exceptional. The burgandy color plush interior has very good padding. The 6 latches are nicely plated. Close the lid and the latches line up, close each latch and the over-center latch action is just right resulting in the lid seal to the body that will retain humidity from my humidifier. The fit and finish of this case is exceptional. Overall this case is far superior to the original.
Musician's Friend has a great price on this case and, the service and "follow through" is truly the BEST...I had contact with three Musician's Friends Reps and each was very helpful and knowledgeable and thanks to them I made the right choice....

Living here in Nashville, one would expect this case to be readily available at some music store. Such was not the case (no pun intended). After checking with these various stores on the cost of ordering one in, I found all of the prices to be very inflated. I decided to check Musician's Friend on-line, and not only found this particular case that I was looking for, but also found their price to be the best, hands-down. The free shipping was an added treat. My case arrived in less than 3 days at my doorstep. I'm very happy with Musician's Friend's service, and highly recommend this product for your dreadnaught Martin.

I like so much about this case. It's better looking than the molded plastic case that came with my Martin. The fit is fantastic. I can fit my strap, picks, capo, and polishing cloth in the case. I can put the guitar in with the tuner attached. What's with the smell. Like a cheap dashboard air freshener. I've had it sitting in the sun. Tried sprays. Nothing works. I love the smell of a Martin, and this odor is ruining it, clinging to everything. Why doesn't the manufacturer take care of this...it's so unprofessional.

Comments about Martin 12C545EC Vintage Dreadnought Guitar Case:

This vintage style case that Martin offers is a really nice complement to a fine Martin guitar. I have two of these, one dreadnought and one 000, and both look great and work well. Quality latches and fit, really soft, plush interior.

The only complaint I have is WOW do these things SMELL!! I needed to air mine out for several days and will probably do some more of that. I'm told it's the glue they use. Based on the older one I have, I'm confident the smell will eventually go away.

I wouldn't use one of these cases if I were letting the guitar go through baggage. I take care of my things, but it wouldn't be too hard to damage or destroy one of these. There are professional flight cases designed for that sort of thing.
