After much reading about the sound qualities of different kinds of strings, I used bronze or PB's custom lights for a long time. I first tried these strings on my backup/practice guitar - a folk sized Simon and Patrick. The sound was sweet and the strings soft to the touch and easy to play. My main player is a Masterbilt EF500RCCE and it has a rather dark tone. I was afraid to go any lighter than the custom lights (11-52) that I've been using because I was afraid of excessive volume loss. After putting these on, the tone is considerably brighter and better and volume is equal to, if not better, than the custom lights. I play a mixture of finger style and strumming and these strings sound excellent for both. After years of experimenting w/strings my search is over. Don't be put off by the lightness of the gauge - these are easily equal to regular lights in volume IMO. Save your fingers and boost your tone at the same time. Best strings I have EVER used. Excellent!

    Too bright for my ear.
I may be a stick-in-the-mud. I tried these strings in an attempt to remove a little of the brightness from my Martin HD28. I wanted a little more pop sound than Blue Grass. I got 60's 12 string sound instead. I just put them on today. I will remove them tomorrow. Some will love them. I am still searching for MY String! The Silk and Phosphor are not it! It may be the lighter guage.
    Martin Quality.
    Value priced.

Comments about Martin FX130 Silk and Phosphor Acoustic Guitar Strings:

These are very good strings yet I see that some folks complain that they don't have long life. Yes they do, but they have a silk core instead of a steel core so when installing them do not pull as hard on them as you do with steel core strings. If you pull too hard you can damage the core and seriously reduce the lifespan. Gently pull up each string only a little bit after installing them to set the tension.

Comments about Martin FX130 Silk and Phosphor Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've been experimenting with all sort of Martin strings over the last 18 months, everything from FX to SP to Lifespan (I have yet to venture into the very specialized artist strings). I've toyed with gauges from extra lights to medium as well as phosphor bronze and 80/20 Bronze. I've tried nearly every combinations of these and I finally settled with these FX130 Silk and Phosphor. (I'm going to try the M130 (Silk and Steel) at some point).

Normally I'm not a fan of brighter tone strings, but something about the tones of these rang surprisingly well with me. So even if you aren't a fan of brighter tones, I'd say give these a shot and see what happens.

As another reviewer had mention, these strings coming out of the pack looks "floppy" as to articulate how soft on the fingers they may be. I just wanted to add that all the FX strings are a little "floppy". What I found was different between these and normal FX strings is that they do feel softer to the touch. There is something different about the wrap for sure.

So far I've used them for two weeks with about 1 hours of play each night. Compare to the normal SP, they did not tarnish as fast, which is good if you do a lot of finger slides (I hate how sandpaper like "old" strings feel). They definitely tarnish faster than the Lifespans. However in the case of lifespan, they have this odd "waxy" feel to it for those that tried it.

The last thing I want to say is that even though these are custom light gauge, they feel more like extra lights because they are FX.

Comments about Martin FX130 Silk and Phosphor Acoustic Guitar Strings:

OK, I have been playing since 5 years of age and have several instrument endorsements, and am REALLY picky about everything as this is my living. Just transitioning to some acoustic work after years playing arch tops with crazy low actions. The style I play with chord melodies etc demands an easily playing instrument, which most acoustics are not built for. Put a set of these on my Breedlove Legacy Concert, and it feels like my Heritage Golden Eagle in terms of fast action and no tension. Also no real buzzing to speak of as I am not a rhythm banger. Just reordered 10 more sets at this price as they would be GREAT to put on the Vintage archtops I have that I never play plugged in. Don't know how long they will last, but this price and free shipping I wanted to be sure to stock up. I can also recommend to my students whose guitars have higher actions and need a softer feeling string.

I read a ton of 5 star reviews and might agree with them if two of the strings (A & D) hadn't snapped before they got even close to in tune.

These were the worst strings I have ever used . Bought 6 set and after a night of playing ( 4 sets @ 1 hr ) these strings are not up for another night ( Tone gone and strings sound very flat ) . At one show , I had to change strings half way through the night ( broken G string after 2nd set playing live ) . These maybe ok for a practice guitar but not for professional use .

I've played guitar a long time. I don't believe one string gauge is better than the next in every instance. These strings prove it. They're not loud, but the tone is exquisite. These strings made me a big fan. I play five different brands of guitars. All of which sound different. These strings made the best come out in all of them. Especially the D-35 Martin. Whatever gauge you use, you owe it to yourself to at least give these strings a try. They've been on my guitars a month and they still sound better than any of the coated strings ever did. This will more than likely be the string I use from now on.
