Comments about Martin M1700 Marquis 12-String 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I'm sure these strings sound exactly like the ones I use on my 6 string guitar, which is why I bought them. I love the Martin 80/20s on my Epi PR-150 so I bought them for my DR-212.

The only problem is that on the package shown in the picture the high E strings are a .10 gauge and the packages I received are .12.

Comments about Martin M1700 Marquis 12-String 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

These strings are ideal for my old Seagull 12-string acoustic. The "Light" (.012"-.054") gauge is good for dropped "C" tuning without too much tension on the guitar. The silk ball ends are perfect for my worn bridge-pin holes. Other strings tend to let the bridge pins pop out when I tune up.

I recommend these strings for anyone using dropped tunings on a 12-string. I don't recommend tuning up to standard pitch, as the tension would be too much on most 12-string guitars.

Comments about Martin M1700 Marquis 12-String 80/20 Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

These are not the Martin Marquis strings I once knew. They're not bad strings, mind you, but they are not the strings I used to use on my 12 string guitars. The tone is not as consistent as the older sets used to be. I realized that the sound of a string is going to vary from guitar to guitar, but the guitar I put these on (an old Yamaha slotted peg-head 12-string) had an older set of these strings on it and the old set sounded better than the new set! Perhaps I was sold some 'old' strings or maybe these strings weren't made on a Wednesday, who knows? In any event this set of strings did not produce the sounds from my guitar that I expected. The strings I received were indeed a set of 12 strings and little more. If you're not picky, these are not a bad set of 80/20 bronze strings, but if you are used to the Martin Marquis of old, these may not be the strings you're looking for. I found a set of John Pearse strings for my 12 string here on MF and put those on my guitar and the disparity in tone is HUGE. Those strings sound like the Marquis used to, at least to me. In summary, if you want a set of affordable strings to get a decent sound out of your 12 string, then the Marquis will do. If you have a sound in mind, a tone that haunts your dreams and keeps you chasing that perfect set of strings, (that classic 12 string tone), then go with something else.

Martin Marquis are a step up from standard Martin strings. Sound great on my Martin 12. Bright phosphor tone and longer lasting quality. Martin strings just plain sound better than Elixirs or EXP coated strings, but won't last quite as long. I prefer better tone for less time than average to good tone that lasts. Compare these Marquis to anything you're playing now and be amazed!
