I play a Gibson 'Artist Hummingbird' as a soloist and I've been using the Martin MSP4200 (which are similar but heavier gauge at 12 to 54) for a couple years but wanted to go a little lighter so that I could play 4 sets with less pain to my finger tips. These strings are just right. Nice tone, they play in tune, well balanced in volume and are easier on the fingers. Any lighter and you'd give up some tone and have tuning issues. These will be my regular strings. I change strings often so I can always have good tone so if you want longevity in your strings, maybe the coated ones are what you'd prefer but I think you give up some tone using coated strings. Martin strings seem to be the best in my experience. I've tried Dean Markley and D'Addario (they're ok). I have not tried Elixer becuase they are priced too high and I don't value longevity which seems to be their selling point. I think it's better to buy strings that are higher in value and change them before each gig or 2.

The 80/20 wound strings sound bright, and they bring out the rich bass in my Martin Guitar. However, the high E string when played with a pick makes an annoying high pitched ring or squeak. It is not fret buzz. I tried different nylon and plastic picks with the same results. I replaced this string with a plain steel string of the same gauge (.011") and the noise immediately disappeared. This might be due to either the bronze coating or the peculiarities of my guitar.

Cheap and great sounding strings. I recommend these for practice but not live performance. I experienced a slight buzzing from the low e string. But overall happy with the price an sound.

I've tried most every kind of string out there and to me these sound the best. They have a very long life for an uncoated string and they sound much better than coated strings through my LR Baggs pick-up. They make my guild D-25 sound huge. I'll never look back

I have been playing the guitar for 35 years and have 2 guitars: 6-string and 12-string Martins. These are the ONLY strings that I put on my guitars. They sound great and don't break easily, which is good because I was going through Elixirs like crazy! These strings actually sound better than the Elixirs. They bring out the beautiful rich, warm tones of Martin guitars.

I bought these strings to replace the stock strings on my new Epiphone DR. Nothing wrong with the stock strings just not high quality. After installing the Martin strings, a very good sounding guitar sounded excellent! These strings give a full, rich sound with excellent note definition. Buy these strings, you will not be disappointed. For those that would argue that coated strings last longer...yes they do but they also sound a little muffled to me...these made my $150 dollar guitar sound like a $1,000 guitar.

These custom gauge extra light SP's are a great alternative for acoustic/electric guitars you want to play fast and furious. Lighter gauging allows you to fly on the fretboard and hit those fulls step blues bends effortlessly. You will lose some tone and resonance though, but for stage applications and hired guns, these are the easist acoustic strings to play on the market!

I have used Martin strings for 40+ years and thought extra lights were the best. On a whim purchased Custom Lights and have switch. They have a very soft feel yet give me a full harmonic tone. Musician's Friend has a great price point on these strings. Give them a try, I think you will agree.

Anytime you change strings, your sound will improve. That can get expensive over a long time, but for the price I got these, I can't whine. I was using the Martin SP Lights before, but I now like the feel of the Custom Lights better. That's just a personal thing though. We all have to experiment until we find the gage that suits us. As for quality, I haven't had an issue with any Martin strings to date. There are plenty out there that cost twice as much or more. If you feel that they are worth it, write a review and tell us why.
