They didn't have the Elixer Nanoweb custom lights in stock so I bought these instead. When I first put them on I strummed my taylor 410 and went "wow". I was excited because I was hoping I had found strings cheaper than Elixer with equal quality. I got my answer a few hours later. Without even having played the guitar, the strings had already lost tone. These strings are not good at all. They don't hold in tune well at all, a simple bend will take you out of tune and they lose all their tone VERY fast. Elixer is the way to go still. Pay the extra bucks and you will get brighter strings that hold their tone MUCH longer and stay in tune VERY well.

These strings are great. I only use the phosphorous bronze. They record well, they sound awesome in a live concert. They have great tone that lasts for months. They start to harden up after six months, so I change them out. When I used coated strings in the past I would change them out also in six months, so I save some money.

I have been using these for years. They start off very bright, but warm up quickly. I have never had a problem with them staying in tune. In my honest opinion, they are a good string with a very good tone after the initial break-in.

This string for the everyone, I believe is the best bet out there. They sound exellent, last long, and are very easy on the fingers. I have yet to break one during 2 to 5 hours of non- stop playing. I have been buying this string for the past 2 years, and really stand on what I am saying. I have in the past, bought all the expensive brands, but with inflation bought this one, and have never returned to high cost ones. Buy it! You will Like It!

Comments about Martin MSP4050 SP Phosphor Bronze Custom Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

long lasting brightness. perfect gauge if you have a firm grip on the neck like i do. I've been running martin strings for several years and recently tried a set of john pearse but the brightness just wasnt there so I back to the martin custom lights.

                Nice Strings for the cost.
These strings provide an outstanding value as they sound wonderful and yet and reasonably priced. I am very please with the set I have been using for the last couple of weeks. I replaced regular strings and the Phosphor Bronze really make a difference in the deep tones they provide.

                Sorry to Disagree

Comments about Martin MSP4050 SP Phosphor Bronze Custom Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I'm sorry, but I must disagree withnthose who claim these strings are inferior or do not stay in tune. I use them on all my guitars except the oldest one on which I use the ultra light. I have never had a problem in over 10 years with tuning slipping. Once set, on my Takamines, from the Santa Fe down to the G series, they stay tuned. I can leave a guitar for a month, which happens sometimes with the "G", and pick it up to find the strings are still perfectly in tune. ON the other end, I can play for hours in a performance and not have to retune once. The phosphor bronze is bright initially and then slowly mellows to a nice warm sound which is great on the Santa Fe which has a cedar top. All in all you simply cxan not get a better string for the money. My experience with Elixers is that they do not hold up well to strumming and fast rhythms. Every time I've used them I have had to replace at least one string during a gig. At nearly $20 a set, that's outrageous. In the last 10 years I have only broken 2 SPs and it turned out there was a sharp edge on the bridge saddle of that guitar, an Ibanez, that was cutting them! Replaced that bridge saddle and have not broken another string since! I will never use any other strings!

                Low Playability Warm Sound

                By ayf

                from WA

Comments about Martin MSP4050 SP Phosphor Bronze Custom Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I bought these because my local store was out of Daddario EXP 26 strings that I am using. I was using Elixir Custom Lights before that, but I changed to EXP 26 since the G string of the Elixirs was constantly breaking. Comparing this set of Martin MSP4050s with the coated strings I used previously, I found that the Martin strings were the hardest to play with very high tension (hard to bend) and they were also very painful to slide your finger across. Sound-wise they are really good and warm sounding and they get brighter the harder you pick the strings which feels very responsive. Although I haven't used these for long, the Martins feel more durable than the Elixirs but I am expecting some degradation in sound over time since these are not coated. Due to the extremely low playability which I wouldn't expect from a .011 set I found these to be of little use to me. But if you don't use full note bends or slides a lot then you may benefit from the beautiful sound of the strings.
