OVERVIEW

Bring out your guitar's true voice.

Guages: .013 .016 .026 .034 .044 .056

Martin’s proprietary Nickel/Copper alloy blend wrap wire provides for a reduced pick attack and allows the guitar’s tonewoods to be heard, not overshadowed. It offers a uniquely mellow, yet crisp, sound. Martin’s wrap is a solid Nickel/Copper blend, not nickel-plated, meaning there is no chance for defects to allow for corrosion. Martin's proprietary wrap is naturally strong and corrosion-resistant, so much so that it has been used in the propeller of dreadnought battleships and various machinery and tooling applications.

I did not expect these strings to be so well rounded for nearly any style of music. These are now my favorite Martin string, although I have long liked Martin Marquis phosphor-bronze strings. But I think these will work on many different types of guitars besides dreadnaughts. I put my first set on an L-1 style guitar and was quite pleased. I received two more sets in the mail today, and one set will go on a dreadnaught for sure. I'll write another review for that set, but I'm looking forward to the experience already!

Not for me, but you might like 'em,

I tried these monel strings on my Martin DSL2 and D-35. In both applications I found them a"little dull" sounding.

Comments about Martin MTR13 Tony Rice Signature Bluegrass Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I have been reading about pure nickel strings and I've wanted to give them a try. The Martin Retro reviews were good and if Tony Rice likes them and uses them, they must have something positive to offer.
I've only had them on my dread (solid mahogany b/s and Adi top) for a couple of weeks...but I love them.
I hear the tone of the guitars wood. Not too bright but also not too dark or muddy. Very mellow.
Urban legend has it that they get better with age. We'll see. But they sounded good new and they guitar sounds great after two weeks. Too early to tell or comment on how long they stay this way.
I will be buying more and use them again. Time to try them out on an OM.

These strings are a vast improvement on Elixir. They're also much cheaper. I think I'll be playing these for a long time to come.
