I do not regret buying this stand. I do recommend it. I just think a couple of minor design changes, much better shipping prep, and an assembly / instruction sheet, are all that stands in the way of a 10 rating.
Features are good. It is well designed. I had no problems hanging PAR cans, once it was assembled. It can extend *really* high. Three things I did not like about the design: 1) They should have made it's standard, non-extended base (when folded for transport) at least 1 foot shorter. Its 2 extension poles give it plenty of height to have done that. As it is, it is by far the longest item in my gig vehicle, and I have to load it last, on top, and at a strange angle. (Not a big deal, but it didn't have to be that way). 2) The top cross-tie piece that holds the horizontal bar for the lights is plastic. That is a critcal load-bearing piece, and I would have paid a little extra if it were metal, just as all the poles and legs are metal. That is probably why they added 2 struts that are not shown in the picture, which also have only plastic ends, but metal rods in between. These were probably added on to give that plastic piece more up/down support. 3) I have not been able to find any way to prevent the top horizontal lights arm from swiveling freely. Currently, I use gaffer tape around the top vertical bar to prevent that.
In addition to the comments about the plastic cross-tie, my main quality critiques are 1) As mentioned by other reviewers, the shipment packing is horrible. Absolutely no bubble wrap, nor paper-padding, nothing but thin plastic bags around all pieces, left to flop around in a large box, that is sloppily taped and stapled. As it turns out, my stand appears to have arrived undamaged. But don't be surprised if you need to return yours for a substitute, if you're not so lucky. 2) NO INSTRUCTION SHEET AND NO WEBSITE FOR THE COMPANY. OK, it wasn't rocket science to figure out, but a 1-page assembly sheet (double-sided) would have saved me from having to figure out on my own what the 2 metal pins were for (they go into the holes on each vertical rod, so the plastic knobs aren't all that's holding up the weight), or what the 2 extra metal pieces with plastic brackets on each end were for, or how to mount them (they are the additional supports for the horizontal lighting bar). There might also be a way that I've not discovered, to stop the lighting bar from freely swiveling without tape, but there's no instructions to tell me. WHO IS THIS COMPANY? WHY DO THEY NOT EVEN HAVE A WEBSITE? Is *anybody* getting this feedback to them?

Musician's Gear IS-800. Expands to a good height, seems to offer what the product description said it would, and appears well -balanced and able to support the lights I want to use.
When I opened the box and removed this product, I was met by a shower of loose nuts. This stand had not been assembled well - all that was needed was for the nuts to be replaced and tightened.

This is where I ran into a problem. Many of them had fallen from inside the tubing, where I could not see and cannot reach. I can't even see where they came from. I went to the Musician's Gear website, hoping to find some asembly instructions so I could reassemble the stand, but none appear to be available. I looked all over the 'net with similar results.

I called Musician's Friend, hoping to find a link to some product information, The MF rep was quite helpful, but, apparently this brand does not offer ANY instructions. I have figured out where a couple of the nuts go, but I am hesitant to hang any lights from this thing, lest those nuts were holding together something really important and the whole thing collapses and breaks my nice, new, expensive lights.

All it would have taken is a little more care with the assembly - tightening all the nuts - and perhaps a little more packing than a flimsy plastic bag to protect it during shipping.
Hard to say. I haven't decided whether I will return this or not. I live in a rural area, abut an hour away from the nearest UPS Store, and I don't know if I have two hours I can blow driving it there to return. I'm inviting one of my other techie friends over tonight to see if he can help with the reassembly. Let's just say the pieces are well made, but the overall assembly was quite careless. That does affect my opinion of its value.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand:

The light stands are a great value for money spent. One of the stands, however , arrived with a broken clamp. I made contact with customer service only to be told they could not send a replacement clamp. Thats absurd! I am not satisfied with this result. I recommend the product . I don't recommend the service if there is a problem.

        Musician's Gear Lighting Stand

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand:

Great stand, very sturdy up, half way or down.

PROS: very nice and sturdy, nice finish, nice turn knobs.

CONS: the diameter does not match the standard 2", the top "T" bar is slightly smaller. I used a 1/16" thick piece of rubber to take up the slack and then works great for for holding lights.

I gave this an '8' overall, only because M.F. could have stated in the description the tube size.
        Basic black stand.
Nice and sturdy, up or down.
Great price for a low budget

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand:

Someone must be listening to the complaints, the stand came packaged in good condition; no need for assembly instructions, easy enough to figure out; made a modification/alteration to the T-bar using the nuts, bolts and thumb screw already supplied. Works great, t-bar stays in place and supports my LED lites. I'm willing to help with the mod if anyone wants to know what was done.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand:

I occasionally need a light stand for parties, etc. This inexpensive model holds a couple of lights (in my use) without a problem. It is plenty tall enough for my kids' cafeteria party, and certainly works at home with my 10' ceilings. All hardware was included, though no directions.

MUSICIAN'S GEAR LIGHTING (OR SPEAKER) STAND

            By Robert Lawrence

            from North Carolina

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand:

More bolt holes for over & under mounting without clamps would be nice. But it does everything I need it to do. I'm very happy with this puchase for the money spent.
Just a thought, make 1 leg adjustable for uneven ground & surfaces. At 12' level is a must.
Extremely stable at all heights. Large footprint at max spread, 5' 8" leg to leg, 5' with 2 legs touching a wall. I use 4 par38 cans at 8' with a 3' leg spread with no problems. VERSATILITY! The one thing nobody else noticed, this is an AWSOME speaker stand if you take the crossbar off. At outdoor gigs the sound really carrys at 12' without being in anybodys ear. It takes 2 guys to get them up there, but it's worth the effort. I put 2 of my JBL JRX100-115 speakers up on these (about 75' each side of the ground level stage with 2 more 115's at 6' & 2 112's on stage) thru a Mackie PM808S (1200 watts) for a LARGE biker wedding out in the country. At 2:00 am the cops said the complaints came from almost 2 miles away . Somebody dared me to play "I Shot The Sheriff". I was a bad boy
Very sturdy, I could probably do pull-ups on it or put them out for a clothes line during a power outage if your dryer stopped working at the wrong time.
            Excellent stand for the price.

Comments about Musician's Gear Lighting Stand:

If you're looking for a good stand this is a good buy but, I found that O-clamps don't work very well. The 48" bar that the lights hang from is not of consistent size. If you try to use 1" O-clamps you will have to remove 1 of the inserts to make them work and, if you want to use 1/1/2" O-clamps you will have to shim up the tubing with something (I used duct tape ). Other than that it's not a bad stand and very reasonably priced.
