Wobbly, unstable, poorly engineered and constructed. If you move them, the base will loosen, and anything over 5 pounds will come crashing to the floor. If you try to tighten the Allen head bolt which holds the base to the main tube, either the socket will round off, the square tubing will collapse, or both. The ONLY way to secure the base to the main tube is to tack weld it. I can't trust these stands to hold my KRK 8's. C'mon, folks...this is supposed to be "professional" equipment. Any nimrod with a hammer, nails and a couple of 2 X 4's could build a simple, stable stand to hold a studio monitor. Apparently, On Stage isn't up to the challenge. Not only is their fastening system primitive and inadequate, the disc with the threaded insert that is welded inside the support tube is SO not level, they apparently don't have any sort of jig or measuring device (uh, as in "ruler") to locate the disc before they tack it in place. Don't waste your money on these doorstops.

OK for the price

Comments about Musician's Gear SMS-6000 Monitor Stand (Pair):

Got these for some fairly heavy M-Audio CX8 monitors. I'm happy, but they are a bit wobbly. The metal fo the construction is soft enough that tightening the bolts deforms the metal, so the reviewer who said that the wobbliness was impropoer assembly is mistaken, at least in my opinion. Still, they are good for the price, and once you get everything set up, you won't notice the wobbliness unless you bump into them.

    Not impressed by these stands

    By Anonymous

Comments about Musician's Gear SMS-6000 Monitor Stand (Pair):

There are obvious flaws in the design of these stands. For one, do you have triangular shaped monitor speakers? Neither do I. Why, then, are the bases triangular? Using them is asking for your all-important monitors to tip over and break. Next is the platform- they're 9 x 9, so bigger monitors will be left hanging off the edge. There is also "isolation" material on top, which are quite slippery. Using these stands may result in your speakers crashing to the floor. I will accept some of the blame; I should have done more research.

    Very Poor Quality

    By Vintage-Midi-Guy

    from Seattle, WA

Comments about Musician's Gear SMS-6000 Monitor Stand (Pair):

Bases bubble wrapped while paint was wet leaving curious alligator patterns. A whole pile of rust dust poured out of various components while assembling - not exactly the kind of debris I want in my studio. The welded nut on one stand broke off when screwing height adjustment pin leaving me with completely unadjustable stand.

Comments about Musician's Gear SMS-6000 Monitor Stand (Pair):

How could I resist the price on these---free with the RTA desk I ordered! At the regular price, they still seem a good-enough deal. Solid, though held together with only a couple bolts. That shouldn't be problem if they aren't abused (but musicians do tend to abuse equipment).

The wide triangular bases make them reasonably stable but if using in a performance or heavily-trafficked area, I would suggest sandbagging them. I'm currently using mine for a couple smallish speakers running off my keyboard and they seem adequate to that task, so they would certainly work in a studio setting.

The rather small platforms seem a bit precarious, despite the rubber padding, but that may just be perception. I certainly haven't had anything fall off of them. Incidentally, there ARE a couple holes drilled through the platforms, hidden under the padding, so it is possible to attach a speaker more permanently with bolts.

It's amazing what a difference having correct placement of monitors will bring. The only thing that would make these better would be to have adjustable pegs for uneven floors (my old hardwood is VERY warped.)

Comments about Musician's Gear SMS-6000 Monitor Stand (Pair):

The stands are not tightly constructed. If the speakers are heavy, like most good ones are (when 12' woofers are used), these stands are totally unacceptable. They would probably work for small, 8" speakers, if not too heavy.

Bought these as a Stupid Deal Of The Day and these monitors exceeded my expectations! Have somewhat large studio monitors with 8" woofers and although the speakers were bigger than the stand platforms and there was some overhang, the stands held them confidently. For the price these monitor stands can not be beat....period. Peace - G-Man

Comments about Musician's Gear SMS-6000 Monitor Stand (Pair):

These are great reference monitor stands--they get the speakers to the correct ear-level height without tipping or wobble. Large enough platform for fairly sizeable reference monitors. There is a small amount of rubber insulaton on the platform but you may want some additional isolation foam. Comes with optional carpet pins. The preset-height lock pins are nice with a groove to lock them in, or you can achieve custom heights with the compression nut knob only.
