I've been buying these exact same stands for years. They're built great for the price and they work just fine. I've probably owned 20 or more of them without a single issue. They're stable, they never fall over, no guitar of mine has ever fallen off of one, and anyone who claims that they're junk is probably either nitpicking or has unreasonably high demands for such a simple piece of equipment.

As others have noted, though, the one downside to these (and many other stands that cost considerably more, as well) is that the foam padding causes a chemical reaction with nitro-finished guitars and will slowly, but surely, eat the finish off of them. If your guitar is poly-finished (like the vast majority of guitars in the world are), this stand is fine for your guitar. If you're not sure whether or not your guitar is nitro-finished, then it's pretty safe to say it's not. However, if your finish is yellowed and has a lot of hairline cracks all over it, then you may have a nitro finish. Nitro is mostly found on vintage guitars or expensive ones built for tone junkies. Those sort of guitars don't come cheap, so if you spent less than four figures on your guitar, I would trust it to this stand. If in doubt, though, it might be wise to find out for sure.

For all other finishes, this is a great stand and the price simply can't be beat. Two thumbs way up on this one.

Just like everything else, things change. Historically, I've bought Musicians Friend guitar stands and for my home studio was satisfied with function/value.
But the stand I received this time has been reengineered (product photo appears to be the old model). I think that the tublar metal frame is of a thinner gauge and most of all is NOT Stable! The bottom hanger of the unit now engages with the upright through a hole in the upright. The old model had a sleeve that extended about 2" that engaged with the bottom hanger. But the biggest difference is that the support legs are very short. If you walk by and brush against the unit get ready to catch your guitar. The sale price is the only thing that's keeping it here and the fact I bought it for visiting musicians. MOST DEFINITELY DON'T USE IN A TRAFFIC AREA!

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

The stand is a good buy for the money. It works just fine for my acoustic. It is well built, but it is lighter weight. If you have a heavy electric guitar, you may want to consider a heavier gauge stand.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

I'll be honest; I got this because I was in dire need of a guitar stand and I was strapped for cash. Now, this is probably alright for a normal electric guitar, but I play bass, and those tend to be heavier. It's holding up for now, but it's got me a little worried. I got what I paid for, though, and if it breaks, I've only got my lack of expendable cash to blame.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

The stand is able to accommodate a dreadnought folk guitar as well as a cutaway parlor guitar (I own both types). The stand is well designed for the price because of the angle at which your guitar rests - will not slide off even if the restraint is not closed. I like the restraint which has two loops that hold the neck of the guitar securely in place so it can't be bumped off the stand accidentally by klutzes like me. You can also move it around while keeping it on the stand if the restraint is closed.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

Won't stand to walking right into it, but stable enough otherwise. Easy to put together. Foam pads did have a faint but distinct chemical smell, and seemed slightly damp. Wasn't 100% comfortable letting guitars rest on them but knew to expect it from prior reviews, so let them dry, picked up some clear vinyl hose, threaded the foam into it and put it all back together. In their defense, the pads were quite sturdy and did not break or shred when put through this.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

Guitarscapes (my sole proprietorship) inventory is up to 16 electric guitars and one electric bass. Very few of them have cases. I need all the stands I can get and I bought 5 of these. They're light weight and easy to assemble. They're well designed in that they can handle pretty much any guitar or bass you throw their way. They're jet black which makes the colors of your instruments pop when they're resting in the stands. Lastly, they're compact and don't take up much space. They are a steal for the money and whether you need twenty or just one, you're not going to beat this price anywhere else.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

Bottomline: Don't buy this stand. Whatever you intend to use it for is more valuable than this flimsy, poorly assembled stand. I bought the stand pictured 10 years ago, and found it to be a good value. Bought a second one recently, but what is shown is not what's sent. The stand had two assembly defects. Both the center post and the cradle fork were not welded straight. Attempting to bend the cradle, the thin metal behind the weld snapped. The bends were not from shipment; it was well packaged. I've since repaired the defects and will be able to use it - cautiously. My advice is look carefully, spend a bit more and get a better quality stand.

Comments about Musician's Gear Tubular Guitar Stand:

Don't just lean your axe in the corner or against the amp. This light yet sturdy stand will keep it securely upright where it can easily be seen and avoided! No accidents due to sloppy attitudes. I like their height adjusters as wall as the stable base. Good black rubber tubing but not sure how they affect old nitro finishes (I keep mine in the case).
