This is a great item for performing in a tight space which is more often than not. Eliminating the boom saves your mic and stand from being knocked over by dancing drunks.
The lengths are personal choice. The 7 inch length is suitable for singers/guitarist using regular mike stands ( a larger person may find the 13 inch may be more comfortable) , miking a string instrument on a short mike stand, or miking an amp.
Not good for Keyboard player who sings or drummer who sings. Boom would be the way to go.
Holds a heavy mike with no problem.

i picked up this MINI MINI boom stand, and added it to a short mic base, so i could mic my kick drum. and it works well for that, but i needed the mini boom not the mini mini boom, that was my fault not MUSICIAN FRIEND i did much reserch but nut enuff i guess. im submitting these reviews because thats what i read were others reviews on the thing i wanted. the ON STAGE STANDS are hi quality stuff you cant go wrong with.the mini mini has plenty of apps but if your gonna mic a kick drum get the mini boom.

I had a problem with my old boom sagging and falling down as I was trying to sing. I need a boom because I play bass as well but have always hated long booms becuase they seemed to get in the way more than help. This little boom does what I need it to do. It holds my mic and gives me more room to "move and groove!"LOL
I've always wanted this boom. I'm glad I made this small investment for more enjoyment.

had an earlier version that threaded onto the clutch
if any stress is applied to the joint the threads strip out, the new version is welded solid, much better

I Like this boom very much , Not like the long ones , that sometimes bump into . I have a goose neck boom , as it got older the more it sag down ,and never stay in place. Buy It You"ll Like It !!!!!!

This is the coolest little boom ever!! I live and jam in tiny little apartment. And this little boom is a giant space saver. Lets my lead singer play his guitar and sing at the same time, without a boom arm poking out the bass player's eye. Seriously I have never been this excited over an inexpensive piece of kit, that is all function and contributes nothing to the sound. But here I am writing a review for it. Buy this thing you'll love it. Anybody playing in a small space will never want to live without again.
