OVERVIEW

Portable tuning at the speed of light!

The Peterson VS-II Virtual Strobe Tuner uses exclusive Virtual Strobe Technology to provide an instantaneous picture of musical pitch. With Peterson's hand-held tuner gone are the delays, jumpiness, and inaccuracies of other digital tuners.

The VS-II incorporates many advanced features formerly available only in professional rotating-disc strobe tuners. In addition, the VS-II includes battery or AC operation (with the included international-ready DC adapter), a high-contrast graphic strobe display, and full user programmability. Musicians, educators, and music instrument technicians alike will love the operation of the new VS-II! The responsive display and automatic note selection permit realtime intonation practice to improve performance and listening skills while playing.

This tuner is also perfect for setting up intonation on guitars and basses and will make its own price back in saved tech charges!

It features cent offset, FTS drop tuning, and tuning assistant and comes with tempered tuning presets, some of which have never before been included in a tuner. In addition to Peterson's proprietary GTR temperament, which sweetens a guitar's tuning, the VS-II adds BAS, which does the same for basses, plus E9 and C6 tempered presets for pedal steel and lap steel guitar. The VSII also supports the Buzz Feiten tuning system. The Bass Shift feature allows for effortless tuning of acoustic or electric bass down to 2 octaves below a normally tuned low B on a 5-string instrument.

-Overall this is my favorite tuner. I'd buy another if it broke. If I could only have one, this would be it.-This tuner is extremely accurate and sensitive.-Absolutely the best there is for setting up an instrument. Nothing else can compare except a real strobe tuner.-Great for on-stage electric and bass tuning.-Just OK for on-stage acoustic tuning. I used it for some time, but found it not as easy to use as a Boss TU-2 because my acoustic guitar resonates with the sound of the band, sometimes confusing the tuner. Plus it doesn't have a kill switch like the Boss, requiring another pedal. If you don't play in a (loud) band, buy this tuner. If you do then you might like the Boss better.-If you are used to the meter or LED type tuners, it takes getting used to, but that takes all of 10 minutes messing around with it. Don't be put off by the technophobes.-Thick rubber covered case can take more abuse than cheap tuners. Selector knob doesn't feel very tough, but mine is still alive, so it must be.-The AC adapter is not the same quality as the tuner. It's stiff wire doesn't work on-stage very well.

Excellent tuner

By Bob-TiBiT

from Beavercreek, OH

Every electronic tuner I've tried is no more accurate than my ears (and I'm an amateur) -- some combination of open chords is going to be a little out of tune. With the VS-II, especially in the GTR temperament mode, everything falls into place. This thing is deadly accurate and well worth the money. Excellent for either acoustic or electric instruments; lots of useful features; very easy to learn. Wonderful product.

Great Unit

By Hayes-c-.y0

I play 10-string pedal steel guitar and find this unit indispensible for accurate tuning. The only thing I have had difficulty with is the fact that the covering broke quickly on the transformer wire.

MUST have for pedal steel

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This tuner is a must have for pedal steel players. The tempered tunings for pedal steel are spectacular. I have "pseudo-tempered" my steel by ear for years but this tuner makes it quick, easy, and accurate. The week I got this tuner I used the tempered tunings on my dual 10 steel (both necks) and gigged that weekend. These tunings make the chords ring true such that the entire body of the guitar resonates with the rest of the band. This tuner is far easier to use than some reviews reflect. It is NOT overly sensitive to pitch adjustment and it is very easy to tune quickly and accurately any of the 11 instruments I play. Highly recommended for the serious musician.

The Very Best Tuner!!!

By SG_Man

from Ohio

Peterson makes THE BEST tuners that money can buy, period! Intonation can be set perfectly with no trouble.Notes sound great. Chords are where you really actually notice how far out of tune all other tuners are. Chords are absolutely sweet sounding. The GTR temperament is fantastic sounding! I can't recommend this tuner enough!

Great tuner

By BassAndSteel

from Boise, ID

This is one great tuner. Ideal for several instruments. Steel guitar, dobro, six string, lapsteel, bass, fiddle, you name it. It has several temperment settings. Especially nice for pedal steel. Also has two programmable tunings. A little spendy but well worth it. You won't be sorry... I'm not.

Finally, an affordable strobe tuner

By Perry Yeldham

from Boston, MA

Nothing is more important than for the bass guitar to be in tune - live, and especially in the studio - i've used a peterson strobe tuner for the past 25 years - the only thing that will really allow you to properly tune a bass - and even that has had trouble with the low B - something I encountered when I switched to a 5-string. The VS-II - does it even better at half the price and twice the portability. Thank you Peterson ! If you're a serious bass player, don't use anything else to tune your bass.

Worth the Money

I've been using this tuner for several years and it is exceptional. I also own the following accessories: Peterson Pitch Holder VS Tuner Stand Mount and the Peterson VS Tuner Carrying Case. Both are great.
