None of mine were as bad as that review but all had some issues including the synthetic plastic smell (all - lesser or greater) and 2 don't fit perfectly (but they latch). One was received a little damaged.I wanted protection for my basses and these will suffice. If left open the aroma will diminish. The neck is held in place with a padded velcro strip (a plus), they look nice and are inexpensive.I've gotten precious little more for twice the price so I gave these 4 stars.

The area where the body of the bass lies is not shaped, so the headstock of my Lakland hits up against the side of the case, requiring me to put foam in the case to keep the body of the guitar in place, which further takes away from the aesthetics/convenience/value.
It also smells REALLY, REALLY bad, and there is a sticker on the label that reads (the errors are not mine) "This product may contain a chemical(s) known to the state of california to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm". I wish that had appeared on the product specs, as I would not have bought it; it seems to me the site should have these warnings posted.
I have a Road Runner guitar case that I purchased in a store years ago that was reasonably well made, smelled a little funny, but that I was otherwise happy with.
This "Graphite Looking Electric Bass Case" doesn't close completely, as the two halves don't meet properly. In addition, once the case is "closed" the latches don't line up very well, which is also a problem. One of the latches does so weakly, to the point where it might be easy to unlatch. It is just put together poorly. I expected more from the manufacturer based on my past experience.
If this was a $40 case, I could understand the lack of quality.
